Great video, Jay! This time of year, late winter, most of the lings in the shallows are males waiting for the females to move in to spawn usually at the beginning of spring. When the males are in (Jan, Feb especially) there is A LOT of fast action fishing. This is when I don't start keeping eaters until I'm ready to paddle back to the beach. March and April are when you're lucky to find the larger females in the shallower areas

Hi Jay, just wondering.. have you ever had any lings hit a fly from the jetty?

Hey Stephen, thank you for this note. I have never fished from the jetty, but I know that the lings, at least a few of them, will go to spawn around the jetty tocks in the late winter. It is possible or I think it is, to do this -- but -- they are likely to run you into the holes in the rocks unless you pull them out right quick. m guessing that if you try it enough, you will get a ling here eventually. My best to you and good luck.
