Kirah Manusamoa I feel very uneducated and slow right now. With what’s going on with North Korea, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands, im just learning about this US territory, American Samoa. That’s so embarrassing. I live in the mainland, in the state of South Carolina, and we didn’t even get taught about all of the part of the US territories when I was in school. The land here and the scenery looks so beautiful here

Nella J that’s because American Samoa is miles and miles away from USA. Hawaii is closer to USA. American Samoa is an American territory except their main islands who are right next to them are independent called, Samoa. Samoa is their independent country, American Samoa is under USA.

Faafetai lava mo le video. This video humble me because it brings back memories when I grew up in American Samoa. I left Samoa when I was 16 1/2 years old ,moved to America and now I have a family of my own with my half palagi kids. We sometimes forget where we came from or how we grew up that makes you who you are today. The Samoan way without a doubt is one of the toughest way of life but very humble lifestyle that no American life ever measured up to.I used to blame and hate my dad for a long time for being too rough and abusive to us when we were young and now having a family of my own I look back and I appreciate it now how my dad was racing us to make me a better person and a strong independent individual because of the way my dad taught me. I know now and realize it that that's the only way my father know how to race and discipline us when we were kids. I thank him for bringing us to America for better life despite all the tough life that we had in Samoa. I will forever grateful for the effort and the determination that my father strive to bring us to America for better life after our mother passed away. I will share this video with my American Wife(Palagi) and my half Samoan kids forever . Thank you again for sharing this video because this will bring back good memories and to remind myself who I am and where I'm from.

We call it the spirit of gotong royong where everyone comes together and get things done together, eat enjoy and have a good time together with families and close friends and this strengthen the bond we have as families. We have been urbanised but the spirit stays the same. Greetings from Singapore.

Eileen Schuller it means the workers pretty much the lowest rank in the family they must do all works around the village not so much for the ladies
@018108D
@018108D 7 жыл бұрын
Untitled means the men have not been bestowed a chief title from the village/family and as stated by someone else, are the lowest ranking members of the village/family. However both untitled men and young women contribute to helping out, men are in charge of cooking however as the umu is done outside and women are generally in charge of serving the food and cleaning up.
@Real_Uce684
@Real_Uce684 7 жыл бұрын
@Eileen, it's not ignorance at all, it's an honest and educational question. TD was right, it means they have not received a Chief title yet. It's usually the men with no titles as well as young men and boys that do the chores and cooking during a family get together.
@alfrediamanu2954
@alfrediamanu2954 6 жыл бұрын
Everybody contributes to the well being of the entire family. Just because you're the Chief doesn't mean you get to sit on your ass and do nothing.The Chief has the most important job of making sure everyone is taken cared of and delegating family duties. "Untitled Men" are the backbone of Samoan Society.

American Samoa was part of the Samoan Islands. Long story short, colonisation happened like everywhere else, the US took American Samoa while I think German (colonizing power in Samoa at the time) held on to main Samoa. Now Samoa is independent but American Samoa is still a colony of the US.
