Some observations from someone who has lived in, or at least visited almost all of these countries in Oceania Australia: has a surprisingly strong colonial influence on the rest of Oceania, you’re going to see at least a few Aussies in all of these nations, and their food at most grocery stores Fiji: racial tensions between the richer Indian Fijians and the natives, major drug smuggling location Kiribati: whole country is sinking to the bottom of the pacific because of climate change, small area above sea level is incredibly densely populated slums, still a surprisingly nice place tho, would recommend visiting before it becomes the modern day Atlantis Marshall Islands: imagine Hawaii except worse in every way, they got all the worst elements of American culture, somehow the capital manages to have nonstop traffic jams despite literally only having one road Micronesia: come for the beautiful beaches, Then feel depressed remembering the absolutely huge amount of young men who died here during WWII Nauru: goddamn these people are fat, one of my friends from university got sent here as part of his medical school training lol New Zealand: surprisingly strong American influence, lots of American restaurants chains like Denny’s that Australia doesn’t have, also biker gangs absolutely everywhere Palau: never been here 😔 Papua New Guinea: My homeland 🥰🥰🥰 a kilogram of strong weed costs $4 here Samoa: all the locals grow up playing rugby and then DOMINATE the American NFL because rugby is objectively a better sport than gridiron Solomon Islands: lots of celebrities own private islands here Tonga: they have literally no economy, they don’t do anything except live self sufficiently, all their money comes from expatriate workers who remit money home. Surprisingly feudal class system, strong division between the aristocracy and the peasants. {Tuvalu: the UK has “British overseas territories” like Bermuda for money laundering, New Zealand has Tuvalu and Cook Islands} EDIT: I mixed up Tuvalu and Tokelau here, apologies to anyone I offended Vanuatu: they LOVE reggae music, also rapidly gentrifying by being a tax haven, beautiful but remote

Isn't it UK not Australia who has strong colonial influence on countries in Oceania
@AyeGee7214 ай бұрын
Other than Food chains. That is the only American influence NZ has. Kiwis are not that deep into Americans unless its to take the mick out of them
@dihexa72564 ай бұрын
@@iamboredlol9120 not really, the UK’s influence is strongest in Australia and New Zealand, but none of Oceania has that “mini-Britain” level of UK influence as somewhere like Barbados. The UK had more of a colonial influence in the past, but a lot of that has been replaced by Australian influence now. As I said previously, you see Australian foods and brands in stores here, not British brands. UK, Australian and American cultural exports like music and television are enjoyed throughout Oceania. American Evangelical Christianity and British churches like Anglicanism dominate the religious landscape of Oceania. Under the surface, the constitution, legal system and style of government of most of Oceania is very influenced by the UK, that’s true. Some parts of Oceania had a strong German influence prior to WWI and WWII, but a lot of that cultural heritage was erased due to anti-German sentiment in the region.

Tuvalu should be lying about their islands sinking. If you read the paper about New Zealand's University about this topic, they actually have gained more land. But it seems .tv is not making them a lot of money anymore.
@angustangney32274 ай бұрын
There's 8 islands in Tuvalu, not a great sample size for the Pacific at large, saying six (as the study you mention does), doesn't disprove the concerns about sea levels. Drought is another huge concern on Tuvalu, they rely heavily on rainwater collection which is decreasing, some outer islands have been rationing fresh water.
@RevoIke4 ай бұрын
@@angustangney3227 again they say their whole territory is sinking which is not the case. They have more land now than before and I have heard that crap since the year 2000 that at this time now they would not longer exist anymore. Which they still do.
