One detail I really love is the turf wars. A lot more choreographed than before with more behavioral aspects. For example, bubble fox vs thunder wolf or Astalos, in both times it plays a defensive role against the more dangerous wyverns and the fight always end with it getting pinned only for it to slip away. It just sets the tone of it being a highly defensive monster. Another is Lunagaron and Zinogre. Showing that the species likely have frequent confrontations with each other by sizing eachother up and even powering up in unison. Perhaps even understanding a howl being a display of dominance. Lastly Scorned Magnamalo and Malzeno, specifically showcasing intelligence of the dragon, able to parry, counter, and even seemingly predict the monsters moves. Showing that the monster likely shows more intellect than the other elders though that's just a theory. One other thing to make note is how competent Lunagaron appears to be when facing Malzeno and Zinogre, seeking only to incapacitate its prey before attacking it but I also find it interesting that despite outwitting Malzeno and even going for the killing bite, it still couldn't penetrate Malzenos neck. All in all love the details in these
@pakuccino2 жыл бұрын
The fight beween Lunagaron and Zinogre is based on a (play)fight between dogs (which makes sense as both are supposed to be canine based wyverns). The way they first circle each other before both go on their hindlegs to push with their frontlegs against each other is a lot how dogs play or even fight with each other if they are roughly the same size. I absolutly adore this fight as it always reminds me of just two dogs playing with each other.

Some other cool details I discovered by accident or by connecting dots: 1) Somnacanth, while swimming or preparing to do its Sleep Nova, can be interrupted by a Sonic Bomb. 2) Followers will react to friendly fire. 3) Tigrex can get its jaw stuck if it charges into an ant mound or a rock in the Sandy Plains. 4) Gaismagorm may be partially, if not, heavily inspired by Abaddon, known also as "the Angel of the Abyss" and sometimes "King of Locusts". Abaddon is also a bottomless pit, often associated with Sheol, a place for dead souls. Abaddon also means "doom" or "destruction" in Hebrew. A note-worthy detail about depictions of Abaddon is the many ways it incorporates the pit: sometimes Abaddon is alive and the pit is represented by a massive maw, or Abaddon lives in a pit. Gaismagorm possess both of these interpretations. And though the Quiro aren't locusts, they are flying pests at the end of the day, and serve Gaismagorm as their host. So a lot of lines connect.

-I knew about the Blastblight bit for Somnacanth, but I never saw the healing clam. -The Sonic Bomb trick with Daimyo goes all the way back to its first appearance. It also works on Nargacuga (and Lucent) - when it enters a pouncing stance, lobbing a Sonic Bomb in its face will topple it, but it will immediately become enraged after getting back up. -I'd absolutely love something like the Ghillie Mantle in a future Title Update for Sunbreak just to watch behaviors like Espinas' hunting of toads and Malzeno's use of Qurio to hunt up close.

I love Rise/Sunbreak but one thing that does upset me about Rise is that all of the monsters instantly aggro, making it difficult to just observe them in their habitats and witness a lot of interesting little things they do when you're not fighting them. I think a monster like Garangolm for example would normally be pretty chill until you actually attacked him and it'd be fun just to follow him around. That was something I really liked about World. A lot of the monsters in that game were docile around hunters and I spent a lot of time just watching them through my binoculars or taking photos. And although I didn't like mantles in general the ghillie mantle was a great tool for observing the more aggressive monsters in their habitats.

Well one way to look at it is from that Jurassic Park 2 quote, Dieter Stark: It gives me the creeps. It's like it's not scared. Robert Burke: There haven't been any visitors to this island. There's no reason for it to fear man. Dieter Stark: Now it does. The new world was comparatively not as accustom to the presence of hunters compared to monsters in the old world, so New World monsters may have been more willing to disregard humans as active threats while Old World monsters already know that the Hunter is the real Monster of the franchise so will attack as soon as they detect one.
@plastichouseplant2 жыл бұрын
@Felipe NS A monster doesn't have to be aggressive to be disruptive to the ecosystem. Could be any number of reasons for it, like overpopulation or being an invasive species. Maybe a monster needs to be hunted because it's eating another small species of monster to the point of extinction, or just eating all of the plants other monsters need to survive. A lot of the monsters in World were perfectly calm until you attacked them, and it helped with making the monsters feel more believable, like they were living, breathing animals with unique behavior and not just a series of boss fights.

I wanna say a minor theory. In world they talked about rathalos/rathian mating behavior. The Ancient forest is used as a nesting ground by a dominant rathalos and its chosen "main" mate. Other rathian who the rathalos didn't choose but mated with will go to the wild spire to nest and take care of their babies there. The wild spire is where yo ucan find rathian but not rathalos so maybe the the sandy plains and the jungle is where rathain with out a mate go to? Gaismagorms jaws get compared to Narwa and ibushi a lot, but they’re actually pretty different! Narwa and ibushi effectively have 3 jaws. The maxilla on top, and then a split mandible on the bottom. On the inside of their mouth, they have a more standard, albeit boney set of jaw bones. These are presumably used in Similar way that moray eels use their 2 sets of jaws. The external one holds prey, while the internal one is responsible for the actual eating. Gasimagorm on the other hand has both a single maxilla and a single mandible. However, he has 2 additional sets of insect-like mandibles on both his upper and lower jaw. So essentially, narwa and Ibushi have 2 jaws. One comprised of 3 bones, and one comprised of 2. Gaismagorm has one set of jaws that is made up of 6 distinct parts. Gaismagorsm jaws most likely functions as a sort net to collect that qurio as he sucks them in.

Just to then swing it in a massive arc. When I saw that the first time, I panicked so hard. And another (not realls small) detail I'm impressed by are the sub-area's. Most maps have these parts, that just scream for exploration, but you'll never visit them during combat. There is so much love and detail put into those, that goes unseen by a wide mass of players, because it doesn't directly benefit the main loop of the game, being running to a monster and kill it until it's dead. Detail isn't just number of pixels and how dense you can put them together, it's the entirety of the picture. And for what Rise/Sunbreak tried, they did a great job at it.

I had no idea what was happening, but I knew it was gonna be big since the camera panned out, so I superman dived away as all 3 of my teammates carted to the one attack... I was awe struck and dumbfounded Holy shit I have never seen that Somnacanth heal clam despite hunting ~30 of them. That's amazing!! As well as the amazing name lore Espinas has become my favorite monster in the series so far, and I actually theorized for a bit that he got his paralytic properties from eating parashrooms and the flying bug dudes whose names I can't remember right now. Glad to see I may have been partially right lol That very last bit with the Scorned Magna being the one Fugen fought, I actually noticed that and thought it was really cool!! That would be one hell of an old Magna, and to see it STILL be absolutely crazy is awesome

Your first hint that the Scorned Magna was the one that attacked Kamura 50 years prior to Rise's events was the fact that Master Hamon was "visibly upset" at its appearance. It wasn't just the one that attacked Kamura - it had also ended Hamon's career as a hunter.

And speaking of it sitting down, you at times also notice it actually using its mouth on the blades on its arms, which is a bit like Glavenus and its tail, seeming to suggest that it does spend its time honing them, which does explain why some of its attacks does actually involve using them when swiping its claws at you.

Continuing on with the relic foreshadows in Rise, the Jungle relics speak about worshipping a large dragon with steel blue wings. Judging by the foreshadows we got from the Sandy Plains and Lava Caverns relics, I am like 99.9% sure this is relating to a monster we'll get to see later on in title updates Edit: Also Malzeno has a supernova-like attack thats pretty hard to trigger. One detail I've been trying to see for myself, but haven't because Gore Magala has like a radar on where I exist (Seriously, it somehow knew I was standing on a tower above it that bordered two areas). Apparently, sometimes it will take its wing hand and absolutely rake those claws along its face a time or two. This to me feels like that the Gore Magalas we see are very close to molting or are not allowed to molt for some reason and are trying desperately to get out of what is essentially an itchy and uncomfortable skin. This to me explains a lot of the hyper aggression Gore's animations show. When not walking, its very twitchy and just sort of jerks its body to 'look' around regardless if its been agro'd or not. Additionally its aggressive twitchiness while it sleeps and how it just jumps up from its wake up animation gave me this indication too, except Shagaru does this as well and likely also displays the hyper awareness animation Gore does, I just haven't taken the time to watch it as much. Something else I've noticed is sometimes I find Tigrex just sprawled out in the middle of an area. The minute you walk towards it to look at it, it jumps up and fight is on. I'm not sure if this is it deciding to take a nap and just does so regardless where it is, or if its playing dead to lure something in to make for an easy meal.

One thing I noticed in Sunbreak is that, when fighting MR Great Izuchi (who got a major difficulty boost, imo), he will sometimes flip onto a vertical surface and latch onto it with his tail. He'll then unhook his tail and push off, swinging his tail around for an attack. What's interesting is that I've only seen this done by MR Great Izuchi in the Shrine Ruins, a territory that they share with Bishaten, and not in the Frost Islands. Bishaten has the same type of attack in his HR and MR fights and does not appear in the Frost Islands. Its interesting to think that maybe there are Great Izuchi that saw Bishaten doing this and then figured out how to do it themselves. It's a nice detail.

My problem with Rise’s details was always less that I felt they didn’t have them, and more that they outright ignored established details without updating the monster’s info. @@abbodon1 it was a new addition to World, but that was because it made sense that a Rathian losing the tail, where the poison was stored, would get rid of it. Rise in general seems to have a focus on shorter hunts, monsters die easier but so do you (I’ve carted more in Rise than every other game combined and I have several hundred hours in my least played), so leaving the poison makes sense, but it also removes the rewarding counterplay involving the poison. Considering the switch limitations and COVID troubling a lot of the development , a lot of things about rise are understandable , they knew where they had to put there priority and it shows . One of my problem with the details in rise that can be explained in part with said developments trouble is a lot of returning monsters bonus animations such as iddle turf war and such for monsters from world are just mindlessly copy pasted without care for what they told us . I'm thinking about things like rathian dominating Anjanath for no reason in Rise or bazelgeuse doing its elder recess exclusive idle where it marks its territory notifying us its their own turf anywhere in rise now , but like I said , dev time and priorities . But my biggest gripe on that regard is the roster distribution for each map that just look at the monsters in their most basic way and overpopulate maps with monsters that have no business being where they are (anjanath is the biggest offender , he is in everymap except the frost isle despite being a forst monster) makes each map feel less special you know. I rarely (barely never) see people cricizing Rise about anything but the fact that World/iceborne had more details, endemic life and shit, no one ever talks about the gameplay, build diversity, faster monsters/pace, things that really affects the game and not the feelings. World did an insane job at modernizing the gameplay of Monster Hunter and it had a great atmosphere, I was amazed the first time I saw the coral highlands, but Rise created and brought back so much things that players love instead of just an "update", you can go wherever you want, making up your own path and shortcuts, unlocking lore and using the endemic life, did World really had that much to offer ? I legit only read things about details and endemic life. Like... that's all ? No matter how good Rise is, any followup to World was and is going to be heavily scrutinized (by fivers) if it can be perceived as "less". Not even "lesser" in quality I mean literally as in "having less in it". Less monsters, less environmental detail, less hairs on Anjanath's back, etc. You can see this in comical effect with the reception of Generations Ultimate. Since it came out AFTER World did in the west, the Gamers™ who see game development in binary and linear terms genuinely believed with all their heart that it was the series "going backwards". The lack of self awareness in the criticisms was palpable and that same kind of indignance/entitlement can be seen in much of the arguments about Rise (albeit to a lesser degree). Rise being compared to World the same way GU was compared to World (as the series going backwards instead of as a sidestep to try different things) doesn't even feel unfair, it just feels uninformed and silly.

I studied myself as a player going through that game and earned my victories. I believe most "super attacks" happen when the monster is about to leave its rage state without being exhausted, and the big red explosions of afflicted monsters happen at the same time. For example, I was fighting Seething Baselgeuse, and I saw it doing its super attack (shining nuke slam). As a lance main, my first instinct faced with a huge telegraphed attack was to anchor rage it. Unfortunately, I carted, not because of the slam, but because of the red blast right after it, which I wasn't prepared for. The moral of the story is, when fighting afflicted monsters, know that their big finisher moves are immediately followed by the big red slap of death. It might save you a cart.

Fun fact: Lunagarons animation for when he misses his grab is similar and I’m not sure but taken inspiration of the titanfall 2 animation that monarch has.

i love how the khezu hunting horn plays the khezu roar noise instead of music, its such a minute detail but like it makes the weapon 10x better.

The Magnamalo detail reminds me of the Moga Chief from MHtri, when he used to tell us the lagriacus was an old nemesis of his he could never beat, and in mh3u you face the Ivory lagriacus and its revealed its the same that the Moga Chief faced in his youth, he even thanks you for finally completing his quest
