My favorite part about the OT? Seeing how every artist uses it in completely different ways. Once you crawl inside the machine, you start to create your own workflow. It inspires every user to create unique artistic visions.

If you invest the time in learning it, it’s really more an instrument than anything else. Had mine for 8 years or so and I’m still learning new tricks and techniques. Some people just don’t value that and want a machine to do everything for them

Is it possible to use it as an end-of-chain for stereo saturation? You can but you’d have to sacrifice 2 of the 8 channels? I was hoping I could run all through a stereo saturation

Great choice. Another DT owner here. Won’t part with it until you pry it from my cold dead hands 😬 Much like how Daydream has bonded with the SP1200 the DT is my go-to since the day I got it!

Classic machine right there. Great work. Such an open platform. Dope music btw. I've been surprised by the quality of samplers lately. OP-Z and 1010 Blackbox made me open my eyes to other platforms. Still, Love my digitone, already love the elektron sequencer and this will be it's best friend.

The OT to me is the ultimate "lofi" machine.. dare I say a way better than the 404. It is a ton more than just a lofi machine, but I really think lofi/hiphop heads keep sleeping on this machine. Del from Hyro uses is heavily.

100%, OT Mk2 is my favorite box. Almost dumped it a few times out of frustration at the beginning, but walked away for awhile, came back fresh and a lightbulb came on...now understanding many of the wonderful functions coming to life. Also thinking of getting an MPC 2500 as an addition, (I missed out on the whole MPC thing in the 2000s). I just picked up SP404sx, trying to see where I can use it best.

This was an awesome video I've always really liked the idea of owning an octatrack but at the same time I usually finger drum so it makes me lean towards an MPC. Watching this video has made me rethink this again just seeing how much more you can get out of an octatrack, so thank you bud.

@@michael_mack I make a little of both which is why I have such a problem haha. I started off with boom bap hip hop beats then began making a little more lofi beats. As of recent I have been making more experimental music after hearing artists like jpegmafia, vegyn, and dg. I currently have a maschine and an sp404 and also plan on acquiring an analog synth when I purchase either of OT or MPC. Any recommendations on which of the two to start with. Also if you have one a recommended synth?

unclejuju12 this is late but if you already have maschine you should go with Octa, since the combo between Maschine and Octa will be very similar to MPC and Octa

I’m researching the possibility of replacing Ableton with an Octatrack, as Ableton in my performance is only looping samples and adding fx. The problem is it feels like buying a Swiss Army knife when all I need is a simple tooth pick 😅 and I’m not seeing much else that could work alongside my A4mk2 in terms of syncing pattern changes and such

It’s easier to use if you get it as your first sampler in my opinion, I bought it pretty much only for the arrangement mode for playing live without a full band and once I started looping, mangling samples and making scenes I completely changed my stance on it, I’d recommend people like me who are guitarists mainly to record something in ableton or any daw then playing with the samples on the machine.

I saw in your other clips that you've been buying a lot of old hardware samplers. How does the Octatrack compare? How does it stack up on modulation points? If you wanted to warp and get some weird soundscapes, go old-school or Octatrack?

Yo is recording it a problem? I got ableton and know I can’t record it live into separate tracks. So my question is can you do good quality mixing and panning using just the machine before putting it onto an ableton track? I wouldn’t really know how that would work as I’m new to this stuff. Don’t even have an octatrack yet but I’m saving up for one once I fully master my Roland SP555
