Many electronic musicians have actually been doing this for DECADES now - so it's nice to see people on here seeing this for the first time - as this is a great live performance(!). No disrespect to DJs, but they are generally not creators/artists. DJs are usually playing other people's material - which serves an important/synergistic role - but it's the artists that write and perform the music - never forget that.

Agree that most dj's today are commercial assets and not artists, just how the music industry works. However... it was DJ's who made tracks so that they could play them at parties. It was the party scene that fueled the making of tracks as much as the other way around. Dj's were more about making a party where dj's now are about making money. Two different things. Any real dj is an artist who knows their tracks like the back of their hand and knows how to work the mix, and in a way make it it's own "third track." It is not the same as mixing all trance tracks together or all acid house tracks together, which is pretty straightforward.

Each song is broken down into sequences and patterns that trigger notes on one or more synthesizers and trigger loops or short sounds (like drum hits) from one or more samplers.
