OCTOBER AT ASHIA!
Take a minute to peek into the work over the month.
This month, one of the young adult female cheetahs left the Center and started the next phase of her reintegration journey. Our interns and volunteers assisted Dr George Schabort with the vet work - understanding what is required to prepare any cheetah for relocation and transport.
Then last week, the boma gates were opened for her and she cautiously stepped out into Ashia’s pre-release area in the Northern Cape (see end of video). An update on her progress will come in the next week or so, but we’re happy that she is doing well and has already made her first kill just 6 days post-release.
With the change of season and a change of routine at the Center in Paarl has meant earlier morning cheetah runs whilst it’s still cool enough, spring cleaning and sprucing around the farm, ice enrichment for the leopards and permanent cheetahs, and swims in the dam after a hot day.
