Hey, it's halfway through October so it's time to put up a TBR. Not a single spooky book because I buck the trends.

I love it when you -- in true Iago fashion -- whisper little monologues at the camera confessing that you've already read books that you're about to tell us you're going to read. I'm perhaps slightly biased, but The Way of Edan audiobook is the best narration in all of audiobook history! Okay, so I'm biased AND I don't listen to other audiobooks, but I still maintain my opinion. And I can't wait for The Prophet of Edan! As for those spontaneous impressions at the end, I think the one of me was simultaneously the most accurate and the least damning. Ha ha ha!

Have about 2 hours left on The Way of Edan, great narration, great book! I usually set my speed to 1.3 on audible, but this book kept it at 1.0, so a perfect pace for me. I have read the entire Fencer trilogy, and I am a little sorry to say the ending was a little of a whimper for me, compared to the second book. I think of it more like a coda, it does try and tie of most of the character threads, but I feel like Belly of the Bow delivers the main punch. I really need to read some more Parker. The Chase/Jimmy/Joanna segment at the end had me in tears, I feel you need to make that a mainstay of your TBR:s. Cheers!

@@TheLibraryofAllenxandria Tempered expectations can be key to enjoying some books. Maybe I should have warned you about ships from the West, but I had vague recollections that it should have been touched up for the omnibus. On Parker, I have only also read The Company, Purple and Black, and Small Price to Pay for Birdsong, all excellent. Where would you recommend I continue my Parker journey? Also, is your performance of "An Illiad" from your thumbnail still up on youtube? Can't seem to find it, really wanted to rewatch it after listning to Edan. Best Wishes!

I'm glad you already read that first book, good for you! 💪 I still need to continue on with LPQ - the two last books! (I live in a country where getting it physically for a reasonable price is impossible and I just can't read on my Kindle without burning my eyes out 😭). I'm not into aliens that much, but still interested in your thoughts on The Expanse (you always find ways to captivate me 👏). Augustus is also one of my favorites, can't wait to reread it (and finally get to Stoner!). Augustus and Octavia as characters (and historical figures) were my personal favorites, though I did enjoy the complex relationship between Julia and her father. 👌Ohhh I started Pompeii a few days ago (loved the Cicero trilogy) -- I'm reading it slowly as the first 50 or so pages kind of bored me 🙈 but I'm hopeful it'll pick up at some point. I wished I cared more about the main character we're following. 👀 Can't wait for your review on The Curse of Chalion! I've also heard great things about it! 👌And of course, your audiobook, omg, so excited! 😍

"Aaaah... Music ! Oooouuuh! Stoicism !" 🤣 can't stop laughing at that one! So, I finished listening to the Way of Edan audiobook, and, I previously heard you on Philip's channel about people giving their opinion on that matter. I strive to be as honest as I can in my daily life, but am not an idiot sharing/forcing his unwanted opinion on people. All that to say that I heard you and respect you. The short version is : it was fantastic. For a bit of context now. I bought the book as soon as it came out on march 2023. I rapidly struggled to make any real progress with the book, but to be fair I certainly wasn't in the best of place at that time (chronic pains, $ù%ç job, and quite a lot on my mind for what felt like every minute of the day). But I wanted to give Philip's debut a fair chance and felt bad about not being able to get into the story. Then after a while I heard that you would be the narrator of the audiobook and decided to pause indefinitely until the release of the audiobook. Because I had watched your "An Illiad", I had confidence. I switched to only shonen manga for a few months, got back into reading when I felt like I could focus again for more than five minutes, and have been waiting for the audiobook since then. Which was an instant buy the moment it was available. Now, I still have my issues with the book (characters, inner thoughts, rythm, etc.) which is still a good read, but I know that when I wasn't able to find my own voice to give this book a fair chance yours made it a great and fun time. So much so that I am eager to listen to book two. Also, I finally listened to The Warlord Chronicles, and even if I was (surprisingly) pretty lukewarm on the series Jonathan Keeble made the journey a fun one and probably is one of the very best in the industry (I've been listening to quite a lot of audiobooks this past two years, from a wide variety of genres). Well, I felt the same level of involvement and passion listening to your interpretations of Philip's characters. I'm not saying that as a fan of your content, I genuinely believe you've done a tremendous work here, and the production value doesn't feel like a debut audio narration at all. I know it must be hard work and pretty tiring, but I sincerely hope we'll get a lot more from you in the future. Sorry for the long rambling. PS.: Oh! Also, I usually have to slow down to 0.9 on audible since English isn't my native language and I want to make sure to focus on everything, and, 0.9 was absolutely perfect with you as well since your diction is very clear. PPS. : Now that you've interviewed Daniel Abraham and he has to acknowledge that you are now on "best friends terms", is it that much of a dream to wish for a Long Price Quartet audiobook version narrated by you?? Please? Cyril

Nice line-up you have there for October. Hope you finish most, if not all of them. If I have the time, I'd like to start Colours in the Steel this month or the next. Currently I'm reading Eugenie Grandet by Balzac, and it feels like I'm in high-school again, when I was reading this type of stuff.

@@TheLibraryofAllenxandria I've had color of magic for forever but kind of glad I didn't pick it up first. Yes both Plinies are in Pompeii, can't leave out one of the few people in the Roman world who could have done something dying in a rescue attempt. But some of the main characters are engineers and there's a lot of just ordinary people as well. He likes to do that, the big cool historical guy is there, but the story is told from the POV of a side character. Like the Cicero trilogy or enigma where Turing is around but its told from the POV of one of his protegees

You seem disappointed about people not taking your book recommendations so I wanted to drop in and let you know I am far more likely to pick up books on your recommendation than any other single booktuber. I figure anyone else that likes KJ Parker that much is likely to my taste. So far I have picked up, read and loved, the first couple greatcoats books, Alchemy of Masques and Mirrors, and Judas Blossom - all completely from your recs. And I have Daniel Aberham and and City of Last Chances on my near TBR. So some of us love getting recommendations from you. Also, so glad your videos are back!

The Expanse characters are waaaay better than the ones in Mercy of Gods. I'm not giving up on the new series, though. I really enjoyed it as well. I'm reading Livesuit right now. I think I'm about to re-read The Way of Edan on audiobook very soon! 🙂

Yes! Ok, that makes sense then what people were expecting out of the Mercy characters. As I said, I didn't care that they weren't very good...I was so taken by the rest of the book.

I love the "Fencer" trilogy by KJ Parker, and also "Curse of Chalion". I have "Pompei" since 2004, probably it's time to read it. I can't find the audiobook in Italy, as soon as it will be available I will buy it.

Augustus was fantastic, and I first heard about it right here on this channel and read it immediately. I’m abroad at the moment taking part in a classroom assistant program. Between that and studying for the Praxis exam I don’t know how much reading I will get done as far as reading. My list at the moment includes…… Audio Yumi and the Nightmare Painter Season of storms Children of time Physical Snow country Legend of the Galactic Heroes 6 Tale of the Heike A Song for Arbonne Master of Rome This is absolutely not all happening but la la land is enjoyable. I have finished snow country and Yumi and am halfway through The First Man in Rome and Season of storms. Nice to see you man!

@@TheLibraryofAllenxandria You know, it is long but it's reading quite fast for me and I have to look things up and write people down. You probably wouldn't have to do that much if at all. Only thing I don't think you would like is Sulla's early chapters because he sucks and is pretty gross but you can skip it and that aspect goes away. This is the second book I have read this year where Sulla was just AWFUL. Based on your knoweldge, was he really bad or just a power hungry politician type? Cheers!
