October Vlog - My Autumn Garden

Welcome to my first vlog of October!
I hope you enjoy this peak into my Autumn English Cottage Garden.
In this video I chat a bit about whats done well (and not so well!) this year and do a little deadheading.
After a quick trip to the Garden Centre I add some Heuchera, Cyclamen, Ivy, Heather, Mums and Japanese Anemones to bring some Fall colour to my garden before it's a lovely blanket of Autumn leaves ready to sleep for the Winter.

Oh Ami that was a real treat, loved visiting your lovely garden and adore the Dahlias, your bunch of them were so lovely. I have just planted 4 dahlia tubers and 2 mor e to come. I added some more Cafe au Lait and also just got Sweet Nathalie. You did a good job of stacking your logs, very satisfying. Loved seeing Jack's rabbit trap.Have a lovely week.

What a lovely garden. I'm in Ontario Canada and we've had our first and second frost, so the flowers are done. We have to take our dahlia tubers in for the winter. We (hubby) brings in a lot of geraniums, a special fern he loves and any vine he wants to keep for next year. Our winters are pretty harsh but still beautiful all the same. Our leaves have started to turn a lovely orange, yellow and red though and that's always pretty. I am always jealous of your lovely English gardens and long growing season. Great vlog 🙂

Lovely to see your garden, Ami. I am now inspired to buy all the 'mums! 😄 Your dahlias look so healthy. Ours were hit really hard by our dreadfully hot summer (I live in BC), especially the ones in pots. I think an actual dahlia bed is the way to go. I'm waiting to move things in our garden, but it has been so, so dry here that the beds are hard and the soil is almost dusty. No moving or transplanting until we finally get some rain! Fingers crossed for some soon so that I can enjoy some October gardening 😊🍂🍁

Really appreciate a gardener with similar habits to my own LOL Love that you know your flowers by name, as I do :)) My climate is a bit harsher than yours but we have very similar plants and preferences... We have two kinds of white hydrangea, one has huge pompoms that are first creamy white but then go lime green before they go brown and I love how lush they look! The others are first green, then white, then they go rosy pink right into the winter... I think one is Annabelle and the other Limelight (which would figure!). But roses, paeonies, anemones etc. like being here, too.

I always get a warm homely feeling when watching your vlogs Amy 💞😁. How gorgeous is your garden and you manage to fit such a lot in. The dahlias are beautiful and are such a lovely flower to display in the home 🌻. I adore an alstroemeria too... mainly for the fact that they just flower for so long throughout the year 👌. It has been a funny year for the garden though hasn't it weather wise...it can throw up some surprises for sure 😋. I can also see where you get a lot of your inspiration for your yarn colours 😍. I loved seeing your garden. I planted several dahlias in pots this summer and didn’t get as many flowers as I expected. I suspect they like being planted in the ground more or maybe I didn’t give them enough fertilizer. It was a good learning year and I’ll hope for more flowers next year, as they look so beautiful in a vase. Do you need to dig your dahlias for winter? If so, do you store them in perlite? I saw Floret Flower wrap them in plastic wrap. Any suggestions on how to keep them happy over the winter? Happy fall!! I’m knitting all the pumpkins right now - big and small.
