Octopath Traveler 2 Secret Boss 3 Turn Kill Using Step Ahead (Both Phases)

So it goes without saying, there are major spoilers in the video and below about the secret boss. Don't stick around if you're trying to go in blind.
To preface, I understand some may view the step ahead as it's own turn, making this a 3 turn phase 1 and 2 turn phase 2. All I can say to you is, "that's fair". Just give me this ok?!

So after posted my previous personal best (I will be deleting it after this so it doesn't come across as a repost) of 2 turns phase 1 and 3 turns phase 2, after seeing a comment and a different setup, I felt compelled to do a little experimenting and get a better kill "time". I'm pretty sure it's possible to 1 turn the first phase as well, but you really need the stars to align with turn orders to make it happen. I attempted for hours to get the "right" turn order for that, but was unlucky, although something that relies that heavily on RNG probably isn't as relevant anyway. Still, I can consistently get 2 turns with this composition on the first phase. Second phase basically always works out.
It's also worth mentioning that someone made a video using Temenos phase 1 for his ability that consumes all SP into a single attack. No matter what I did, I could not replicate their damage (they were dealing about 50kx3 to the souls with them having no debuffs, and 90k on the eye with it broken | my best was 32k on the souls and 60-70k on the eye). Even with higher SP numbers and 910 E attack (unsure if that last 90 would change the damage from 32k per hit to 50k), and everyone, including myself, who asked for the build they have not responded to, so I have no idea what they did. If it is just a matter of having 999 E attack, I'd have to replay the entire game to put more E attack nuts on them, so that ain't happening. Could possibly make 1 turning phase 1 much simpler, although even they haven't managed to pull it off yet. It seems with either strategy though, a 1 turn is possible, but like I mentioned, requires a ton of luck in turn orders.

Nah, it’s definitely remixed. Dibbo might have forgotten some of the instrumental bars between the main vocals in “Daughter of the Dark God,” mostly after the first vocal segment. Also, this version has slightly less emphasis on the guitar and drums compared to the original.

Thanks! One thing I might recommend is the level 55 guide video I made on him. This video was mostly just me starting challenge runs for the boss and kind of "documenting" my progress, but after a while I noticed a lot of people were trying to use these as guides, but I don't feel that make for great guides since my goal was to 1 turn the boss and the setups I used were way overkill. My level 55 guide I actually go in depth on builds, where to get the items you need for it, who uses what, and I talk through the fight to let you know what you should be doing.

My main strat for first phase is Ochette to spam king puff and then Castti using desperate measures to one shot the adds after getting Sealtige's.

@@POchimpmonk4life if you think I increased my stats this way (I’m not even sure if you can adjust stats in the save file), you’re reaching pretty hard. Many people can tell you that it’s pretty easy to cap lots of stats in the game using battle tested gear and nuts. The only time I altered a file was to drop my team to level 1 for that specific challenge video, as it would be impossible to do that otherwise. And if you’re implying I use that to somehow make my characters deal more damage, one quick search via Reddit or KZbin will show tons of people who hit these same numbers, or higher. Guess we must all be increasing our damage via the save file huh?

Ok one thing. This strategy is still possible to do with worse gear. I didnt farm 2% chance battletested stuff, but gave characters a sec better items. Belt is easy to farm up tho. Oswald and Hirari only realy need those 2 items as they are main damage dealers. One thing that did fuck me up a bit as i gave my hikari to many speed stat seeds so i had to re-try it a few times. (my characters are in range of lvl 80-85 not that it matters much) Now i can finaly contine the story and go fight that dark boss (yeah i forced myself to kill harder one 1.st).

Limb from Limb comes from the Sacred Guard HQ. Head left as soon as you enter, then beat up the guy blocking the doorway. Inside that room is another guard you have to fight to learn the skill. For Alpione's Amulet, go to Gravell after completing Ochette's story and there will be a side quest. To complete it, just walk right outside of town to the left, go down the stairs and inquire the hunter. Go back to the quest giver and you're done!

It’s not really required; it’s just what I wanted to use when trying to 1 turn the boss, which I did end up doing in a different video. Another really strong strategy is to use Hikari, who can use the dancer divine to 1 shot the souls on the step ahead turn, then using the cleric divine do 800k damage to the main boss, killing it. You still need to break the boss, but there are other ways to do it that don’t involve Ochette.

Most of your damage comes from gear setups and buffs/debuffs. Put them all together and Hikari can deal 400k in a single attack, or 800k in a single turn if he has the cleric divine buff on him

I guess when you are lvl99, it’s quite easy to follow this routine and get 99,999. I saw videos where most of the characters can do extreme damage when pairing with nuts and accessories

I also have a level 55 guide where I also hit 99,999. It’s pretty easy to do once your characters get the right equipment, as that’s the most important part. That and using the right buffs/debuffs during combat. Being level 99 actually does very little to hit the damage cap

I use a double axe hit all monster (there’s a few of these, but the specific one I use is the vagrant frog king from curious nest) and the peak a boo (does a staff hit to all with high chance to debuff enemies physical and elemental defense; can be found at southern Timberain trail)

@@pierretournoi5845 that isn’t due to me being 99; I have videos where I deal the same damage with level 55 characters. The damage comes from specific equipment setups and making sure to buff/debuff appropriately. Basically 90% of your damage comes from gear and team synergies, and even though 999 elemental attack is the max, if you don’t have the right equipment or your don’t do the correct things in battle, you’ll only deal 10-20k per hit versus 99k

So if you’re looking for a guide video, I’d recommend checking out my level 55 guide. This specific video isn’t designed to be a guide and is more of just proof of the progression of my various challenge boss attempts. The builds in this are major overkill, while in my level 55 guide, I use a more normal team of all level 55 characters with no duplicated battle tested gear. I also go over all the equipment used, where to get it, and actually talk through the fight to say what you should be doing and how to get past certain parts. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this particular video as a guide for you first kill as it was intended to be my attempt at 1 turning the boss.

He actually has higher stats in 2. As far as people getting better or him being easier I couldn’t say. I’m not sure of all of the challenges done in the first game, although I’m pretty sure people have soloed him in the first game.

Galdera is absolutely stronger in this game, but you're also given more options to tackle him with things like the latent abilities, Hikari's learned skills, etc. I imagine that if you only had your party from Octopath 1 fighting this iteration of Galdera, it'd be harder.

I can't tell if that's experience or the characters really are more versatile than 1. Since magic is so much more OP in 1 I would think that was the better team, but I have a much better Hikari than Olberic and physical damage is so strong in 2. I guess it evens out

Well I already have a video 1 turn killing the boss… and you don’t need everyone to do 99k per hit to do it. Also, only two characters are even capable of hitting 4x99k hits, so it wouldn’t be possible to get the entire team to do it. Thanks for the comment.

No nothing has been patched. My level 55 guide video on this will probably be better if you’re trying to beat the boss since this particular video is just a challenge video, but if you’re trying to mimic my Hikari, you’ll have to make sure you have the same gear, support skills, stats, and ensure that the enemies have a physical defense debuff while Hikari has a physical attack buff. If you aren’t quite sure why your Hikari isn’t doing as well as mine, I’d also be glad to help out over discord if you’d like

Something to note is that even after killing the extremities, Galdera's main body will still be immune to damage until it gets to move again. Once its weaknesses can be hit and its shield points drop, only then can you debuff and damage it. EMPHASIS ON DEBUFF. The cursed talismans will NOT work when Galdera is still immune to all damage!

Throne has a passive ability that when you start the fight at night, it buffs everyone. Temenos has a similar passive that debuffs everyone’s defense. Just make sure you start the fight at night.

So each normal subclass has a "guild". When you go to that guild, you get the extra license for free, but if you talk to the guild leader you can ask about additional licenses. They will have either tasks or ask you to give them something in exchange for up to 3 licenses, allowing you to put up to 3 of the same subclasses on your characters at once.

If you check out my level 55 boss guide, it has a much more reasonable team with a standard kill, along with locations for all the items used. I think the frog you were using was better than the one I tried, but it did get it done, the first phase was the harder of the two as once I got to the second phase I won thanks to item spam more so than the tactics in the video, not the most pretty result, but your tips did make the fight winnable for that I thank you as until I saw this I couldn't get past the first phase at all.

How do you go and kill galdera with different level party's

It’s something you can only do on PC. You can manually adjust your levels in the game files, so for the videos I need lower levels, I just drop them that way.

Similar to my other comment on my other video, in Octopath 2, this is the secret boss and is not the final boss. The final boss is completely separate in the sequel. This is the final boss of the first game.

I believe you can farm steal them after you have killed the bosses of certain dungeons. If you have Throne' in your party, you can actually steal one and also receive a second as a drop. I can't remember the name of the sea cave, but there's a level 52 one where you can farm a certain boss after beating it as a rare mob. It offers around 4k exp, and is an absolute breeze to finish offer with Ochette's capture ability.

So as Craig mentioned, some of the mini bosses you encounter have jams you can steal. Additionally, I path actioned every single NPC I could find in the game, and did every side quest I could find while never using these items for times like these.

Does one true magic scale from Elemental attack? I have the same build but mine is only hitting for 17-19k each.

Yes it scales from elemental attack. To hit the numbers I’m hitting here, you would need to have 999 elemental attack (or close to that) while using the exact build I linked in the description. You’ll also want to make sure the boss is broken, has an elemental defense debuff, and Osvald needs to have an elemental attack buff.

@@micah_6585 962 is honestly plenty. You might not hit exactly the numbers I was, but you also don’t need to in order to get through phase 1. As long as your build is the same and you’re making sure the buffs/debuffs are up, you’ll get through it. Tonight I’m going to try and figure out how to set my characters to 50 and make another similar video

Note that you can also use occete growl to reduce resistances on boss or if you captured that dragon on island cave, you can use him once per battle when fully boosted. Its possible to hit even higher number, but depends on rng of characters of how they start.

@@Bullminator there’s also the headless skeleton, or my personal favorite, the Peak-a-Boo that both have a really high chance of getting the defense downs as regular summons

@@rpghero46 what I find the most entertaining about this, is imagine you are playing a game you don’t want to know anything about, then you hop over to KZbin and search for that game only to get upset that you found something about that game. If these people don’t want to see spoilers of any kind, especially one as minor as this title, don’t be going online searching for info on the game before beating it yourself.

Does something other than Speed determine Turn order?

Sort of. It has an influence on who goes when, but it's not absolute. Higher speed is more likely to go earlier, but in the end it is still RNG. A 999 speed character can still end up going last or a 1 speed character going first.
