I wonder if you do something ahead of time showing how the latch mechanism works it it would reduce the time. Like maybe a different setting where a treat is placed inside and he figures out how to open it then when placed inside himself he remembers and escapes more quickly? Or even trained to open various latches one a wall, each opens a door to a treat, so he is basing decisions on past experience?

I’m not sure how I felt about this one. I don’t like watching animals in distress or panicked. Those suction cups extended and open reminded me of hands reaching out begging for help. It took quite a while to unlatch the door and I think it happened by accident. Not thought out as we usually see when they check things out then plan an action. Why did I keep watching? Because I was sure it would escape but I didn’t think or maybe I hoped it wouldn’t take this long. Please guys no more Houdini stuff. I love watching them think things out. PS did those colour changes indicate he was pissed? Did he just flip you the bird on my behalf?
@elizabethsnyder_baldonado394 жыл бұрын
Just one question: Why put this little creature through the stress of this experience, when it's already proven that they're able to escape just about anything, given time? We know that they're smarter than the average pollute-tician. It looks terribly stressed out, after its escape. I don't understand what this proves.
@BobT364 жыл бұрын
I'd let the Octopus experts decide that. I'm sure they'll not want to stress the creatures to the point of harm.

@@elizabethsnyder_baldonado39 No problemo. There was an obvious visible reaction after it got out. I wonder if that was stress, anger / frustration "Don't do that to me again!" or celebration. It didn't seem to have that same reaction when inside though so if it was negative, I presume it wasn't TOO stressed at the time. I'm sure (hope!) that the organisers would cancel the experiment if it looked to be harming the creature. They seem to know what they're doing and look out for the health of the Octopus, such as when people delivered rescued ones to them in bad conditions etc.

I think he was a bit panicked. Just after he got out him sat there and calmed himself down a bit. When doing some or all of these tests, show & give immediate reward. Don't give grocery store dead food, give them something they would normally eat in the wild or stop having them as 'pets'. It is really bullying behavior. I think they are very interesting and have enjoyed watching to a degree, but some exercises seem to be cruel. (Even just plain mean) you will get better performance if you get smarter about your 'test' and give well deserved rewards
