For the price, one gets sapphire, ceramic bezel, a an excellent frequency, , lume is great, and mine only gains 2 or 3 seconds a day that beats my friend's Omega. So if one complains about this watch, this must be that he wants to be validated on the snob bench for the sake of it....

It just shows us how the established brands rip us off by clearly charging the money for their fame & name, sponsorship rather than for the quality their watches represent. Yes, the Chinese brands don't do much original designing efforts but is still well out of proportion; price - quality in comparison. In depth review as per normal 😉👍 P.S. they look good on a mesh bracelet as well.

@@waltwearswatches3056 True but 300% or more to justify. They often use Seiko movements which are Japanese, you can say that the Japanese use the Chinese but so does the West. Especially the Americans who hate the communists but it is fine to make big bucks on their backs when they produce their apple phones (to give one example) for peanuts and sell them over here for top Dollar. Switzerland is a very protectionist country, and has a history of a unique position in Europe (too long to do the complete story) they have the luxury to pick and choose whatever suits them. Protection of workers etc in the West ? Well, that is a constant battle and a certain country left Europe because one of the reasons is that the EU has more statuary rights in place for their work force. However, even the EU is nibbling at the workers rights and protection all the time. And tell me, a wages that pays a living in London for example when you are a cleaner at the minimum wages with astronomical rental and house prices ? Those people live in sheds in back gardens with 4 or 5 of them on a couple of square meters. Are these workers well protected and have a good living in your opinion ? So your reasoning is not completely telling the whole story am afraid sir. Inequality is always going to exist and the gap is growing everywhere and nobody want to change it or really cares, otherwise it wouldn't be like this. I am as guilty as everybody else, I honestly admit. I still buy Swiss watches too by the way.

As usual, you have produced another great critique on homage watches. I find your reasoning to be spot on . I have to say(and I'm probably the only one) that I have two disagreements with the watch,though by personal choice. I'm one that does like "skeletonized" hands(I think it gives the watch that davy jones locker look) and I also like a date complication on a watch. The chromed hands would still look better in black,but that's livable. Other than that,this is a watch that definitely is a bargain! Though it will never be used by 99 & 44/100% of most buyers,a really usable He valve. is a plus!

I bought one of these. A beautiful piece, however mine had QC issues: the applied indices are not perfect. In my experience, AliEx are not the best at resolving such issues so I will live with it!

Cracking review! At first I liked the blue one more, but now, after the review I’m liking this white dial version! I like the dial and the hands, especially the counterbalance of the second hand. Im wondering how this would look on a blue rubber strap… could work but the nato suits it well. A lumed crown would’ve been the cherry on top, but that might be asking too much. They should lose the He escape valve, I doubt that it will get much use. Would make it look cleaner imho. Even tho no one will see it, I really like the caseback. Overall this is a strong contender for a place in my watchbox.

Great review as always John. I like thinner watches. I wish this was 200 meter instead and 13 mm thick. 300 mm in my opinion is overkill. Especially when 98% of the people will never even use it to dive. What are your thoughts on that John ? Ray

Agreed Ray. 200 metres is perfectly adequate, as the majority of collectors don't use watches for diving. 13mm is ideal as it easily slips under a shirt cuff. It also means the piece doesn't feel top heavy, which 14-15mm pieces often do. A 40mm version that is 13mm thick with 200 metres would be very popular; and suit collectors with a 6-7" wrist better. @@wed265 Asia is the worlds largest watch market. The trend in Asia is for large pieces, 41mm+ diameter. Rather than the European, and American, markets trend of smaller 36mm, and 39mm watches. Hence why they are making what their main market wants. However other Chinese brands such as San Martin, and Pagani Design; are making more 36mm, and 39mm pieces as their sales come from mainly from Europe, and America, not Asia. Baltany, and Octopus Kraken are made by the same factory; and sold on the same AliExpress store. There are several 36mm Baltany pieces currently available, which are popular sellers. Therefore they want to keep Octopus Kraken focused on larger pieces such as their 45mm Fifty-Fathoms homage, and this 42mm Seamaster homage. Regards, #WR4K
