Great review Steve! This is definitely worth waiting to buy during their big sales. I picked it up for $190 USD after tax and shipping during the 11.11 sale. The watch this is homaging was a $34,000 limited edition from a couple years ago that is no longer available for purchase. Lume aside, the build quality of this watch rivals any of my San Martin watches. The main brands in my collection are Oris, Zodiac, Squale, Seiko, and Hamilton. This one fits right in! Octopus Kraken won't sell the band separately. I already asked! lol They do sell it as a Zuludiver branded strap at Watch Geko. I paid $48 for it about 6 months before I bought the watch. Very good looking watch! I love the bezel . But not a fan of the full polish case and the "no radiation" logo (I still prefer this dial variation). As always a great and very complete review, with beautiful pictures in the intro 👌 Great job, Steve.

It's a homage of the Fifty-Fathoms No Rad limited edition. That watch was $34,000 when it was available. The Barakuda dial is also pretty nice if you don't like the No Rad version. I picked this one up for $190 (including tax ) shipped during the 11.11 sale. At that price, I couldn't pass it up!

Great looking watch, I was hoping for a slimmer watch, given the PT5000 Movement. Also, a matching bracelet with double quick release AND this rubber strap as an additional strap would be awesome.

I bought this watch with the alternative 'barakuda' dial with the intention of only removing the OCT and the PUS from the dial which came off very easily using a isopropyl alcohol dampened bit of kitchen roll wrapped around some jewellers tweezers which took off the white letters without effecting the gloss black dial base and I have kept the center logo and meant to keep the 'kraken' lettering but accedently wiped part of it off (WHOOPS!) so am left with the circular octopus logo which I like but it could do with being bigger when left on its own. Also painted the hour markers and hands with an ecru (old radium) colour that is a good match to that used in the sapphire bezel numerals so it looks a lot more homogenous now and very similar to the original B.P. as the different colours used on this watch looked a bit cheap. Have also removed the Octopus name from the strap buckle using 240 up to 3000 wet or dry paper to get the mirror polish back as the strap is a very high grade rubber. This watch is a very good quality product and I do like the solar octopus logo very much but the octopus brand name in its self, is best kept out of sight on the back of the watch in my opinion.. I would love to own a B.P. barakuda but can not justify spending $40,000 AU on the real thing and would be reluctant to wear such an expensive watch every day as it would spend its life safe in a drawer if I had one so this modified watch is the next best thing for a tight arse!

So after receiving this watch last month it is awesome, however the only problem I have with it is the difficulty rotating the bezel. But it appears to be the exact same design of the blancpain. OMG one of my daughters said why does it have a pizza logo hahahahahahaa

Fun fact. On the instructions for the original dive watch it shows on the instructions to use three fingers when using the bezel. 😅

I have ordered this watch with the alternative Barracuda dial and agree that the Octopus Kraken branding is a negative and was hoping to cover or black out the name just leaving the Octopus logo which I rather like as it would not have been out of place on an expensive divers watch if used by the likes of Blancpain, and it looks quite good on the crown wheel.

I really love the 50 fathoms but will likely never buy one. This would be a great alternative but the name…not a fan. I think I could live with just octopus or kraken, not both.
