This didn’t even mention the octopus that was kept in an aquarium that learned how often the night watch walked by so it could sneak out of its tank and into the shrimp tank to eat them all and then sneak back.

When John started vouching for the octopuses' moral character, I was hoping by the end of the video it would be revealed that, like the chameleon, John Oliver was just an octopus in disguise the whole time. Missed opportunity! Or perhaps... the camouflage ability of the octopus is just that good, and the mimicry is still being done to this day

Lol, thought he’d bring up that story about an aquarium worker accidentally feeding an octopus some shrimp that had gone bad. In response, the octopus didn’t eat the shrimp, grabbed one of them, escaped his tank, went to the workers desk, and threw the bad shrimp onto it. That’s some pretty effective non-verbal communication of displeasure :)

Same. I saw a documentary as a kid and am in love since. They showed an octopus who seemed to have a crush on a female researcher, so apparently this works vice versa. Now that I think about it, Oliver didn't show any pictures of women when he was complaining about human looks... maybe we're just meant to run away with the octopuses. 🤔 Anyway, my favourite story is one I read recently when a researcher forgot to feed an octopus, and it climbed out of its tank wandered to the researchers desk, left some kind of mess there and then went back. The researcher was pretty shocked, since he considered the tank escape-proof.

I, too, am a pretty intense fan of octopuses. He ain't even mention their jets, their ink defense, the fact that some of them will create a strobe light show to mesmerize prey, that they prey on sharks, that they can pass through basically any small crack, or that they mourn their dead. I'm not saying that these aren't generally well-known facts, I'm just saying that they're more reasons why octopuses have a staggering amount of defense mechanisms and intriguing behaviors.

he didnt even mention how octopuses are expert escape artists, so much so that it is relatively common in aquariums for them to find a way out of their own enclosure, crawl across the floor (In the air because, yes, they can hold their breath and navigate on land.), and enter a different enclosure, either because they want to eat the yummy fish in there or just because they wanted to.

@Capt Shiny Child, the legalization of Cannabis Sativa after the attack at Pearl Harbor is the reason that you are alive in a "free" country. No weed = no Navy, no Navy = no D-Day, no D-Day = no victory, and no victory = the Nazis win. Hence the name of the video, *Hemp For Victory.* Instead of just learning from your own history, you continue to pay billions of dollars in taxes to pay police to harass, beat, arrest and kill Americans over "Marijuana" in the war on drugs, the same "Marihuana" plant that defended American freedom and democracy. You're so indoctrinated by government lies that you won't even contemplate the importance of *Hemp For Victory.* There is more to weed than getting high.

@@BradMonett82 I haven't directly read it but it was heavily implied. Octopuses have basically the same intellectual capability potential as humans in terms of tool use, and they have similar abilities in terms of socializing and empathy, just without the language (but let's be real, their sign language would be leagues above ours). The issue is literally their lifespan. They live up to like 5 years, which isn't long at all. If they lived 60+ years like humans, they'd most likely have human level intellect and also be able to actually pass down knowledge which is a core aspect of human development. Humans wouldn't be where we are today if we couldn't pass down information like we do, which you need a long life span to be able to do.
