My dad was in the navy and got sent to the Pacific somewhere for some part of his training. He and some other guys were camped out on some tiny island in the middle of nowhere, and it's overrun with coconut crabs. They worked themselves up into a near panic over a rumor that their claws were strong enough to crush a human skull, and that they couldn't tell the difference between a human head and a coconut at night. Some laser targeted hazing right there. I'm sure some officer honed that rumor over many years, boy did he get them good.

I like to think the coconut crab is like an enforcer in the crab mafia. Like is some bird isn’t paying protection money, or is causing problems for the family, they call him, he shows up, snaps a few wings, maybe a leg or two, and badabing badaboom, he sent a vary clear message to the other birds that it’s his island and they better stay in the trees where they belong. Also I like to think he’s one of those goons where he’s quiet and everyone thinks he’s a little slow, but he’s really observant and smart. As for a name, i like Boris. He seems like a Boris.

Coconut and land hermit crabs will usually always spawn their ready to hatch eggs on the evening of a full moon. This is why they need to still live near the ocean even though they live on land, they require the ocean to complete their reproduction cycle. To twist the wise words on arachnids that Clint the Reptile man has said on many an occaision; "every crab is truly a crab, even if it isn't a true crab". The spirit applies to these sentient lawn mowers

Name the crab "Big Robbie", because he's big and he does a robbie by taking your stuff. Love your content, btw. It's eeb weeks and I'm STILL thinking about the hydrothermal vent video and your work with ChemThug on breaking down the different processes that go down there (and that wild hypothesis of proton exchange forming new chemicals and potentially the foundation of life itself, that shit is so wild and I LOVE IT)

Hey octopus lady, I know you don’t know me, but I wanted you to know, seeing your new video helped pull me out of a fairly bad fugue state. Your videos always manage to cheer me up. I really appreciate everything about them, from your rambling to your genuine enthusiasm, they make me happy. Thank you

7:35 I had a crow that would politely ask me to open walnuts for him or her. I say politely because out of a great many nuts dropped near me, the bird never once hit me with a nut. This happened so many times I started carrying a nut cracker with me. After opening a nut several times in view of the bird I left the nut cracker on the ground next to the nut. I knew there was no way the bird could use the nut cracker, or even pick it up, but after I showed the bird what it did, I wanted to see what the bird would do, so I left it for him. I could see how badly the bird wanted this tool, but there was no way he could use it. He did spend a long time examining it though.

I would rather fight 1 Horse Sized Duck and 1000 duck sized horses than 1 Coconut crab, if I'm honest. They scare the crap out of me on a primal level.
