Errrrm A View to a Kill and The Man With the Golden Gun rank quite low on most people’s lists, rightly so. They’re still good and enjoyable in ways but could’ve been miles better, AVTAK just shouldn’t of had Moore as he was way too old by then.

I read an interview with Roger Moore in the mid 90's & Roger GOT THE QUESTION: 'Which of the girls is your favorite'? Guess who his favorite was? YEAH, Maud Adams! I clearly remember what Roger's response, to that particular question, was. Roger said....'Oh, I'd have to say Maud Adams, she's a very special woman & still a dear friend of mine'. I agree, she's a stunner! Since '83 & "Octopussy" she's the best looking Bond WOMAN - ever! The runner up is herself in '74. "The Man With The Golden Gun".

No one looks at this movie properly. Everybody thinks about the clown scene and the damn tarzan yell. For these 2 scenes, that combined, don‘t even last 5 minutes out of a 130 minute film, people put it all the way at the bottom. Shame. The plot is so good and realistic, and even CONTEMPORARY! This movie was made in the mids of the cold war! The story perfectly fits to the time! And not only plotwise, but otherwise, this film has so much to offer and is so damn fun to watch! I really how much stuff happens in this movie! It really feels like a multiple day watch! There is no denying that this film is an absolute rollercoaster ride!
@davidespesset22403 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with your statement. As a matter of fact, Octopussy is not only my favorite Bond film, it is also my favorite all time movie - I must have watched it at least 70 times since 1983, and it took me a certain number of times to perfectly understand each and every detail and plot twist. It was a time when Albert Broccoli, Richard Maibaum, John Barry, John Glen and Roger Moore made a perfect team to produce exquisite Bond films (something I have been sorely and desperately missing for so many years!). James Bond is All Time High and Nobody Does it Better!!
@davider68843 жыл бұрын
What I didnt mention, but you probably know that, it also has some of the best stunt work in the series! The pre title sequence with the minijet is great, the entire train sequence is fun, nail-biting and also tension and stunt and action filled! The race against the clock to disarm the nuke is as serious as Bond gets if you deeply look at it and its such a shame that people call the clown scene goofy all the time! In the concept of the movie it was the only choice Bond has in order to hide from the cops.. And plus, it undeniably has the deadliest henchmen in the series (Twins, Gobinda, Yo-yo-saw killers, dangerous Indian assassins)! Not only is it also my favourite Bond movie, its my second favourite action film of all time behind M:I fallout and one of my top 10 favourite movies of all time as well!
@davidespesset22403 жыл бұрын
@@davider6884 This was a time when scriptwriters were able to mix ideas from Ian Fleming with novel, original ones in a very clever way (see also For Your Eyes Only and The Living Daylights), thus providing exquisite, complex and intelligent screenplays. This was a time when stunts were real size - not models or CGIs. Stuntmen were involved in amazing jobs, resulting in top notch actions sequences never to be forgotten: skydiving without a parachute (Moonraker), the helicopter sequence at the beginning of FYEO, and many, many others. This was a time when Roger Moore gave the Bond character a sense of radiance and brightness along with maturity and self-confidence that was never to be matched. This was a time when very special Bond music was written by John Barry (and also others like Marvin Hamlish and Micheal Kamen), thus creating a haunting, overwhelming atmosphere. This was the time of authentic, genuine Bond films, a time that unfortunately no longer exists. [I must say that M:I Fallout was indeed quite a movie!]

@@davider6884 Sorry, but I am not good at ranking movies. Octopussy is my all time favorite movie. A View to a Kill is my second favorite Bondfilm; and For Your Eyes Only is probably the third. I am especially fond of the Bondfilms John Glen directed (Timothy Dalton should have had the opportunity to make at least two more). I do not like Daniel Craig as Bond (I think he is simply a miscast, though I do not doubt his acting skills); however, I consider Quantum of Solace to be his "best"; Skyfall is very good, though not a Bondfilm (apart from the 15 first minutes); Casino Royale was (and still is) a disappointment (three tremendous scenes however: the 'foot' chase at the beginning, the action scene in the airport, and that in the 'sinking' building in Venice); and Spectre was appalingly dull and badly written (especially when compared to Skyfall). I think Sean Connery was great until Thunderball - Lazenby should have made You Only Live Twice and Diamonds are Forever. Roger Moore fondamentally recreated the Bond character. His positive influence on the series is most often hugely underestimated. Apart from this, I am generally totally unable to tell a good movie from another one.

You can't beat John Barry. Everytime I try to listen to Thomas Newman's recent Bond scores, there's something lacking. David Arnold did a fairly decent job with Tomorrow Never Dies and The World Is Not Enough, but Barry had it all. The midas touch, and Barry understood how to create that "All Time High" with a Bond score, that leaves other's waaay behind. A great loss, and a true gent. Never to be seen again. Very sad.

Wonderful job in stitching all the tracks together to form a comprehensive Octopussy score in sequence ... Been wanting that for a while! - And may I second everyone here who speaks the praises of Octopussy, my No1 favourite Bond from the day I first saw it in 1983 to the present day ... A 'Bovril film' which people either seem to hate or love with no in between. I guess for the younger generation the Cold War nuclear brinksmanship and disarmament plot may seem remote and aloof, but for those who were there it was truly ripped from the headlines stuff - The perfect Bond in many ways, daringly blending drama and comedy, romance and slapstick, political comment and satire, with probably the strongest and most rounded Bond lady ever and Bond's most tense situation with the bomb countdown where everything and everybody seems to conspire against him and even he is tested to the limits ... Not to mention an amazing cast - Maud Adams (with Kristina Wayborn giving good support) and the dream ticket of Louis Jordan and Steven Berkoff as the villains and our own Italian adopted Indian 'Sandokan' Kabir Bedi to boot.
