Never had a issue with stick drift until the PS5 controller. I went through 3 and just brought a duel sense edge for $200 off retail. Sony should just make their controller with hall effect sticks to start with, especially with how expensive they are to buy

Yeahh not cheap but that does include the case etc too. AND it becomes easier to justify when you know it's going to last, whereas other pro controllers will start to drift in a year or 2 of decent use, either needing you to buy another one at full price, or a stick module which seems to always be out of stock. :/

it is a little too much imo, but its not insanely unreasonable. ive had my ps5 for a year and already have spent near that much on controllers

The DualSense Edge has a system built within for that. Not to take away the Hall Effect Thumbsticks.

It kind of does. The issue with the Edge's system is that to fix it, you have to replace the stick module which costs a further £20. Plus, the stick modules always seem to be out of stock too making that difficult. Here, you can use the tool to counter drift entirely if it develops, and if you've gone for the hall effect model instead, then obviously it shouldn't ever be a problem anyway.

I never had a problem with stock drift still recently. I speculate that stock drift happens when you’re changing your input deadzones?

You're sort of right! Drift isn't inherently caused by deadzones, but rather than physical wear & tear of the mechanical potentiometer system that most controllers use for the sticks. Each time you push it, parts physically rub together & overtime, it will have worn more at one side than the other, resulting in it being uneven so the sensors will think the stick is moving even if it isn't. Deadzone is how much the stick needs to be pushed until it registers it an input. The lower your deadzone, the more sensitive it will be to very minor movements, so if drift has started to develop but maybe hasn't got 'bad' yet, it'll make it more apparent. So technically you could fix drift on any controller by just increasing the deadzone until it stops, but that's not reliable as you're then reducing the sensitivity & accuracy of the sticks which will properly mess with your aim etc even more than drift would. The mechanical system on the Hex (NOT the hall effect sticks - these don't use mechanical parts and thus just don't wear really), doesn't adjust deadzone but more adds artificial drift in the opposite direction to which you tune it until it nets to having no drift, but without adjusting the deadzone. It's as good of a fix you could apply to potentiometer sticks without replacing the parts themselves, or replacing them for hall effect sticks, which is as mentioned, is also an option here if you want to pay a tad extra.

I never play with any settings on the controller and I'm on my 4th PS5 controller since the PS5 was released. I never had issues with stick drift until the PS5

I wouldnt sing the praises of hall effect sticks like theyre the say all be all, nintendo has a patent for a liquid based system, we dont know how thats gonna work or how good itll be but we should all keep it in the back of our minds

Yeah it's not a perfect system with the small precision error margin they can have, but the calibration tool they ship it with ensures it stays as precise and accurate as possible. All controllers are prone to developing it. I've only ever had it once & that was on my PS4 Scuf controller. It's something that develops over a long time, usually more likely if you're playing the same game for long periods very frequently (like 3+ hours a day), as you are wearing the mechanical parts in the same places. It's just something that comes with a lot of time.

It's $230 USD for the base controller (which has the drift counters built in) without the case & charging cable. It gets up to about $280 USD if you want everything with it and also hall effect sticks. Unfortunately I don't seem to be able to get the site to display for CAD for me, but head on over to hexgaming.com and see for yourself. It's the Phantom controller. You can use code Octorious to get it cheaper, but I'd advise checking out my full review before committing as it's obviously not cheap so best to be sure. 😊

They do have Xbox controllers, but none quite on this level yet unfortunately. Other brands might, im not 100% sure as I'm focused on PlayStation. Maybe in the future!

@@Octorious ah, got it I've been looking @ a victrix controller for my PS4 since i wanna play GTA with my friends, but the regular PS4 controller gives me hand cramps, but the Xbox ones don't, & victrix is the only brand I've seen that make PS4 controllers with the Xbox layout

PlayStation have also had unofficial controllers with hall effect sticks for almost a decade, since the early PS4 era. 😅 What makes this different from any other controller, PS or Xbox, is everything else you get too. For instance, no other pro controller is able to switch between mouse click triggers and adaptive triggers. The ones that do let you switch, lose the adaptive triggers system.
