When I first came across your channel and viewed a couple of videos I have to say I was not very keen, I thought you were just another chop it merchant. But when I watched the MK1 escort being restored boy was I wrong you really do things properly. I myself have been in the motor trade for 30+years as a mechanic may I add, and restored vintage stuff with my late farther and also into the custom scene and I have seen my fair share of turds with golden crowns on built or restored by people who in the scene have a great reputation (a couple of them were on TV).it is a breath of fresh air to see a small team of people who clearly get on well and do superb proper job to me the videos are not long enough but great nether the less I am subscribed and will be buying raffle tickets keep up the great work.

Personally I would like a torquey 2.3L duratec engine coupled to a 6 speed gearbox. The extra capacity would give it the low down grunt that it needs..I don't know if such a gearbox is available but it could be a feature of the build

Nice to see you back lads! Good choice of engine but you might want to reconsider your choice of gearbox and axle! NC MX5s have a great gearbox that bolts right up to a duratec as that's what they have fitted as standard. Go for the 5 speed as it's cheaper and the ratios are better. An English axle will cope with the power for a bit but it'll shit itself sooner or later so you might want to consider something a bit stronger such as narrowed Atlas or Volvo axle.

Good luck, if you want a nice daily driver scrap the cage and harnesses, they wear thin really quickly and you don’t need them.

It’ll still have enough poke to get sideways so will probably keep them but make it so it’s easy to get in and out etc 👍

@@keithoddautos5044 maybe a decent safety devices bolt in half cage and inertias as well as harness for convenience is an option, we go this route on the road class sprint cars. Your raffle winner then has the option to keep or remove if the inertia works with the seats.

I'm 8 minutes in video (so not sure if this gets addressed later) but you probably should work from the back quarter, door then front quarter at least when fitting panels (On a 2 door). It might be better in the long run to get panel gaps correct (Dont forget to install rubber seals in door arches when doing this). Good stuff so far, get up the great work!

IMHO you don't sand down fly rust, especially not with a grid 80. Of course the right one to go is putting up a rust converter, which also doubles as a sticky layer, then prevent with red oxide primer, then you don't need to use a filler at all. Oh, in between courses of course you sand down with 250 grid or up. But I'm not a car girl by trade of course.

There’s a fair few weeks of body work left, the rub down was just so we can weld to parts of it. Expect we will have to use filler on this old girl.
