Hey Odd! Unfortunately the Bomb isn't a Tallboy. It's a Blockbuster bomb. Though both bombs are 12000lbs, the Blockbuster is a HE bomb compared to the Earthquake bomb Tallboy is.

This is a high capacity HE bomb while the tallboy can be thought of as an APHE round on steroids. Tallboy has a pointed front and a different fin design. It looks quite similar to a modern bomb in many aspects being very slim for its length.

Also I've always thought that explosions in this game were pretty lackluster. It kind of just looks like you kicked up some dirt. When I first started playing the game and I went from 500 lb to 1,000 lb to 2,000 lb bombs I was pretty disappointed to say the least. I think they do it because they use 2d textures, and it would be very obvious how... Fake it looked

That's not a Tallboy, it's the 12,000 lb HC (High Capacity) aka the Blockbuster bomb. Tallboys were streamlined almost bullet shaped bombs with a cruciform tail that spins it as it falls, accelerating it to just over Mach 1 before impact, it too was 12,000 lb in weight, but had a hardened nose to penetrate deep into the ground (or hardened concrete) before exploding and creating an additional earthquake effect on the target, Tallboy and it's bigger 22,000 lb brother the Grand Slam needed modified Lanc's (B1 Specials) with no bomb bay doors and a chopped fuselage to be carried underneath, the upper dorsal and nose turrets were also removed to save weight. (Edit: just spotted someone else has already pointed this out).

I think the random explosions are either when a player respawns in a new tank, or quits the battle, it triggers the shell of his old tank to go boom or something along those lines as it usually happens shortly after you've killed someone, so if you watch the shell of that tank you should see it happen.

FYI the reason they likely added these instead of the tallboy/grand slam is because those bombs required a specialty variant (atleast the grand slam did) of the lancaster produced with stronger engines and no turrets or bomb bay doors, although some sources claim the 8000 and 12000lbs blockbusters themselves could only be carried by certain bulged bomb bay lancasters so its quite odd eitherway.

that isnt true, the 8000 and 12000 bombs are all using the basic 4000lbs bombs welded together, it needs no changes to the bomb bay or aircraft in general the tallboy also needs to change to the aircraft, its the exact same weight as the 12000lbs HC the reason gaijin added the HC is simple: it has a larger blast radius a tallboy only has about 3000lbs of explosives in it as most of its weight is steel and concrete.

Hey odd, I have a vehicle request. Because of the new update, custom loadout filters allow the saab-105 and sk-60 to become much more potent, as they can carry missiles, bombs, and gun pods at once. 8.3 sweden also has a lot of variety, and 7.3 is pretty fun as well. Of course it can be pretty frustrating at times, but I would love to see you try. There is also the new swedish spaa that you can play at 8.3. Thanks for the consideration!

the arty does work, its just that there are times when it is invisible. had a game where I suddenly blew up. the kill cam showed an arty bonking my tank on the turret. but there were no incoming arty shells and no orange smoke.

Regarding the solid shot performance - one would ask why did the British engineers decide against a HE filler. Actually, they found that HE filler causes little extra damage over the full solid AP but degrades penetration performane significantly. The latter being modeled in game properly, the former... well... not so much. Surprisingly, APFSDS spalls like mad, but AP spalls even less than APFS it would seem. TL;DR: Yeah, there has to be something wrong.

Love the blast radius. Took it out yesterday and was not disappointed. The visual blast though....it's a bit underwhelming. Looks like any other bomb in the game and it makes no noise. I wish there was a huge shockwave and a crack/rumble like in real life. Then a fireball and a smoke cloud that lasts for longer than other bombs. The explosion should be huge! Look at the explosion at 14:52 . It actually looks bigger than the 12000lb bomb even though it's just a 1000lb going off

Hi OddBawz, I wanted to say how much we appreciate your content. Hands down it is the very best channel. I do have a request if time allows you, I can only begin to imagine how long it must take to do your videos. I have watched how you fly the planes and your understanding of the engages you take. Would it be possible if you could make a series of videos explaining what you are doing and why? to help teach us to become better. In the video if you could pause it and maybe add annotation marks explaining how you deal with the engages or if a plane is on your six how you deal with it. A view of an incoming plane and what maneuverers you make and why. I know it is a lot to ask but my god how interesting and helpful it would be, a dedicated series of videos to help us all get a lot better. Why is the PE-8 so much lower BR, slightly slower but much better defensive armament and similar payload. And in a downtier costs me 790sp with the 5000. Not only has Gajin messed up the flight number of the Lancaster as it was known for being able to turn and handle very well for a plane it's size, but the extra 1000 kg tnt equivalent of the blockbuster compared to fab seems to do nothing.

You do realize the explosions scale according to logarithmic dependence? The extra 1000kg on a big bomb will do much less difference than extra 100kg on a lesser bomb Also, the Lancaster and pe-8 have less that 1br difference between them, which is effectively nothing if we're talking about aircraft in ground battles (the only place this thing can be used) And, the Lancaster, while having weaker (in terms of caliber) armament, has *much* more ammo that pe-8 (4-8 times more, depending on the gunner). I think it's pretty balanced as it is right now

Not TNT (Trinitrotoluene), the Tallboy and Grand Slam bombs used Torpex (Torpedo Explosive) which had a significant admixture of aluminium powder, to slow down the explosion, increase the 'heave' when under ground or water, and to make nice white flash when detonating. ;-) The bomb in the vid however, the High Capacity 12,000 lb used the normal blast explosive, fused as it was to explode as soon as it struck anything, as it was intended to demolish buildings in cities, and not stick in the ground like a lawn dart. The word 'blockbuster' was used before WWII by US journalists to describe the then-new 1,000 lb bomb intended for the B-17 and B24 bombers.

the random Explosions seem to be delayed effects. i have seen for myself that after i called in Arty, like you yourself saw, there was no indication of it coming in OR actually hitting even. but after a few minutes, i saw in my own match when i tested this that it's effects came after it was done. it took inbetween 1 to 4 minutes to render a VERY delayed effect of Impact, LONG after the Arty is done.

I unlocked this bomb yesterday and managed to use it to bomb someone on their airfield in air realistic. I then took it into ground realistic and noticed the British tank problem and wasnt able to meet the over 700 spawn point cost until I took it up to 7.3 battle rating with the Australian Centurion. The match was over by the time me and my friend got into the air with two tall boys.

Fun fact : The Lancaster was the choice to deliver the A-bombs since they could carry it's weight and then some. But they did not have the feul from Tinian island and Japan and back. So they chose the B-29 Superfortress instead then.

Actually it probably wouldn't do much. They set off a low yield nuke at very close range in a test vs a centurion and whilst it would have killed the crew and it tore some of the armour plate off, the engine only stopped because it ran out of fuel and ti was upright if pushed a few feet sideways.
