TRYING TO USE THE TINIEST BOMB IN WAR THUNDER

Today, we try and use the smallest bombs in War Thunder. These bombs are so tiny you can hardly see them on the wings of the plane.
Weighing in at just 10kg... they can be any use, surely?!
Well... turns out they aren't so bad at all! :)

According to a book I read, these weren't even considered bombs, but instead were referred to as "bomblets", and they were specifically meant for anti-infantry. kind of an odd concept but if it worked I guess?

Yep. These were specifically designed as anti-infantry bombs to be thrown into trenches.

bomb evolution was pretty interesting. in WW1 the first air to ground weapon were aerial darts and grenades. bomblets are kind of an extension of that where theyre basically just a grenade with fins and an impact fuze. also interesting to note that the reason machine guns started getting mounted on planes was that early ww1 pilots would just shoot at each other in the air with handguns.

Well if they have 750g of tnt inside and weigh 10kg, that means that each bomb(let) delivers 9kg of steel fragments to an area. The Mk 2 grenade was pretty damn effective while weighing only 600 grams, so you can think of this being roughly the equivalent of 10-15 grenades - won't bring down a building, but definitely not pleasant to stand around.

I remember getting that thing during the 10th anniversary and then thinking they where 50kg bombs so i tried using it for CAS and after much failure i realised it has led explosive mass than a HE shell

protip: If you bind a key to Drive Assist [I use Mouse 4 or Mouse 5], it's like "autopilot / halo warthog mode", the vehicle will try to point whatever direction you're viewing. But, the most important thing is, for a PC user, it'll almost immediately STOP a fast car from spinning out when the backend starts to fish tail. So you can drive keyboard, then if you start to slide, press the button to rebalance yourself as you keep going. The user interface even has a green dash light that appears in the UI whenever its on. It works great for any wheeled silly -fast boys with lots of backend kick. I drive around like normal while holding C (Mouse look), but if I start to lose it around a corner, or on bumpy roads, I immediately let go of C which snaps me to straight forward, then I press the drive assist key and the backend gets under control. Depending on danger, also let off the gas to help it regain control. The issue happens with many driving games (and wheelie boys in WT) because your keys are "100% left or 100% right turn" and during bad traction both of those options are actually too much and worsening the stability of the vehicle. The smallest movement your keyboard can do is still overcompensating. A console player / someone with a joystick or controller could just ease into the turn. Usually on keyboards we just tap left and right really quickly, but when you cannot tap fast enough to get a fine enough control, you need something like a drive assist to apply a smooth adjustment.

I had to use these too, and here is something I remember… it landed under an M10 (yes I was using that thing at like 3.0) like right under it and all it did was yellow the tracks, and another bobbing run had a bomb LAND IN THE TURRET BASKET… All I took out was the loader

I remember some years ago watching a video of someone taking the He 51 with the 10kg bombs to high tier, and stealth bombing high tier tanks. I presume the bombs have been nerfed since then, but it was super interesting to see how he had to put the bombs literally right under the tank, or directly onto the turret hatch, and he'd kill some of them, absolutely classic

I absolutely love that medium tank, it's fast, mobile and has a long barrel 100mm main cannon, and for what it is, even though it may not be the strongest medium tank in War Thunder overall, it should still be able to put a hurtin' on the enemy team if you play it just right.

I love using my He 51 hydroplane, very maneuvrable and light. I can outturn enemy planes and shot them. But gotta stay really far away from anti-air as much as I can.

I have a Ph.D in "Tiny Explosives Dropped From German WWII Water Planes", and I can confidently say those are not bombs. There are actually six small German children strapped to the bottom of the wings dropping hand grenades. I can't imagine the Nazis doing anything more sick and twisted than that.

On the topic of low tier you should check out the tbd-1 for the US tree. it is a low tier monster that can carry 12x100lb bombs. I used to bring this as my aircraft into 5.3 ground and even got 5 kills with one bombing run lol
