Even if we allow that the Joker has some form of empathy and good awareness of his context and surroundings, this only bars certain kinds of mental illness or other 'insanities'. In the Joker's case, the fact that he does indeed understand all these things - human motivations and drives, deep and complex planning and an ability to weigh the dangers involved... he understands all this, and *still chooses* to do the thing that maximizes suffering, even at times at the expense of his own wellbeing. He knowingly takes the path that will hurt people, even when other options are available. This is not an ambivalence to human suffering (as you might see in a sociopath or psychopath), but an actual *preference* for human suffering. His own statement of trying to get people to 'acknowledge' that One Bad Day is all that separates 'normal' from him could be seen as a warped moral reason to want to inflict suffering; but more than likely it's just an excuse to do it... or possibly even just a way to mess with Batman's head to get HIM to believe that Joker actually has some method to his actions, when really he's essentially just an extreme version of an internet troll, with no real motivation beyond doing something outrageous for 'the lulz' and claiming it was all a joke when people try to stop him. Insanity does not have to equal mental illness. Often, 'insane' is just what we call someone who wants something that is wholly apart from what general society wants, and is willing to do what they have to do get it.

There's only 1 motiviation for Batman I like. Terrible anger and loss and world shattering trauma. He knows he has to do something about it and he knows he's hurt inside. He wants revenge. He wants to take the pain out on others. He wants to stop them from doing to others what they did to him. But he doesn't want to create more people like him so he doesn't kill. And more importantly, he recognizes that if he became a killer he's too hurt inside to ever stop killing. So yeah he's crazy, but he knows he's crazy and builds his life around minimizing the damage that craziness could inflict on the world. Which makes him the complete opposite of Joker. Joker chooses to take his pain out on the world in the most destructice horrific way possible. Joker is what Batman is if he ever stopped holding back. So theyre incredibly different.

The Therapeutic joke. by yours truly. After many days of false therapy with the Joker Batman realized that all he ever wanted was someone to hear from him. "It was my fear and ideals of keeping Gotham safe who made the Criminals way they are. Because it was the death of my parents who made me the man I became to be... and now I realised it all feels pointless after hearing it from a clown who's had the same struggle that I have". Batman reveals his face to the Joker as Bruce Wane and stare at him and said "Thank you for listening and showing me that I could be better now... I quit". The Joker with a smirked grin, his face suddenly changed after hearing Batman out and revealing his face to him alone "well I know its the truth but- wait!? WHAT! Whadda you mean you quit?" Joker replied with a dumb look on his face. "I mean I'm done being Batman I should've done this what Alfred wanted me to do... To be Bruce Wayne" batman leaves the scene. Joker still confused about what just happened puzzling the pieces together "What the HELL just happened who the hell is Alfred!?" then a thought came to his mind and he had just realised something from the Very beginning of the whole stunt he was pulling this entire time when he played therapy." Bateman's part was almost flawless. You've made the classic observation that in every Batman story that didn't bend over backwards to justify Batman's operations, he's probably the reason Gotham city sucks so much, and weaved a meaningful story out of it. The only issue was your English, which you're probably working on anyway. As for the Joker, he needs to be far more bombastic. Can you really imagine him ending his career without at least a few gun shots?

You know, this would be a really badass comic. Joker kidnaps Batman and literally had a therapist girlfriend while also being in an arkham with even more therapists to help him be normal. No one can find batman and Joker lies about the bombs for once. He doesn't need to know who batman is, he doesn't care. But seeing literally Joker being taught how to be a therapist and actually helps batman retire, leading up to something called Batman: Epilogue Which can be a final mission to clean up Gotham forever, kinda. An action packed adventure with loss and new characters and the resting of old ones. Heroes still be heroes but in new ways. Heck, they could even make the bat family the Flying Robin's or something, taking away the batman identity and becoming something bright. Not perfect but satisfying.

I would have to disagree with Joker. Batman fights for vengeance, but it’s to avenge everyone affected by crime. It’s to create a world where no one will have to suffer the way Batman did, a world where no 8 year old boy will ever lose his parents to some punk with a gun. Batman has sacrificed years of his life, taken endless beatings, and spent billions of dollars trying to fight crime, both literally and through social programs. So Batman, at least to me, is anything but selfish
