Sutro was much more than “bathing.” In warm filtered salt water. Beyond today’s modern water parks! Swimming lessons, competitions, diving, water slides, dancing, live entertainment, musicians, vaudeville acts, magicians a museum, arcade games, restaurants, it’s own private railroad etc...

After the Baths closed there was a museum and ice skating rink there. I remember going there in the early '60s. There was a Tucker auto and an Egyptian mummy. I remember ice skating at the rink. It all burned down in the early '60s. The auto is still around somewhere. PS: There is a movie named " The Lineup " which concludes in final scene at the ice rink. It is from 1958. Not a bad movie. Worth watching old S F scenes.

I went there this past April for the first time with my family and a friend’s family. I started getting very... weird “vibes” as soon as I got down into the area. It felt like something, someone did not want me to be there. As a person who is NEVER cold, I was freezing and felt very unnerved and felt a heavy sense of dread. It was like a sinister something was sort of watching my every move. I was about to cry....I couldn’t wait to get out of there. I felt a very weird, spooky presence there. I never spoke of it to anyone. A few days ago I casually asked my mom if she thought she felt anything there... “off” there, and she said she definitely felt something. I look it up, and turns out- the area is SUPPOSEDLY “cursed”/ “haunted”. I felt kind of scared that I was right. It is, however, a BEAUTIFUL place to go!

Gosh, one of the favorite haunts from my youth! You don't really worry about the tides unless maybe a King tide. The site is never submerged, see all the grass? i'm surprised you didn't go through the tunnel with the booming wave chamber halfway along. Sutro was a fine man, in the vein of a certain real estate developer politician I will not name. Sutro defrauded the City over the sham City Hall that all fell down in '06, exposing the chicanery, and was summarily run out of town. His hilltop mansion overlooking Sutro Baths was razed by the angry citizenry. [where was the drone? Civil fines threatened?]

The Sutro Baths have always been in my Top Ten favorite places in the SF Bay Area. Especially when I lived up north. Love that you covered it. However I’m wondering if you were aware of White Point down near San Pedro and the historical baths that were there? You can still see some of the flat stone remnants from the similar Ocean fed swimming pools. Tide pools and rocky beaches and a recent land slide that took out the road, are all available to explore.

I remember reading about this place a couple of years ago, very cool! On the Tech side, what kind of gimbal are you using with your camera? Those scenes where you're walking and the panning shots were really smoothe. As always, a very fun video. Have you considered uploading videos bi-weekly? I know the rigors of scheduling new videos around daily life, but i think I can safely speak for everyone when I say we'd all like to see your adventures more often :) Safe travels and, oh yeah, where's Pronunciation Dave???
@OddityOdysseys6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the complement! We would love to upload bi-weekly, or even weekly. At the moment we both have to keep full time jobs, so unfortunately that significantly curtails our Odyssey time. To answer your question, we've been using the DJI Osmo+ for steady shots. It's worked out very well for us. Thanks again, WildCard Journeys!

Now that you two are traveling to interesting places, here's a suggestion: Oatman Az. It's on the historic Route66 and it has wild donkeys walking it's streets. There's also a bar that has dollar bills stapled all over it's walls and ceilings. Seems like it would be a great place for you guys to highlight in a future video.

Bathing in the 19th century is usually suggested going to the beach. With the lack of beaches around Frisco, it made sense for Sutro to create one, so you were right. It was a water park for its day.
@darcyjorgensen58083 жыл бұрын
1. Don’t say “Frisco” unless you want to confirm you know nothing about the City. 2. Lots of beaches in the City. Just not a) appropriate for sunbathing or b) safe for swimming.
@danliberty7343 жыл бұрын
@@darcyjorgensen5808 I grew up in San Jose at the south end of the Bay. We were fortunate to get Frisco’s smog every day when the Pacific’s on-shore breeze blew it down to our end of the valley. Ten miles from where I lived was a mountain. Every morning you could see the sun reflecting off the dome of the observatory on top of the mountain. By noon, you couldn’t see the mountain. I’ve earned the right to call the festering city of San Francisco anything I want by sucking up its filthy air for a decade and a half.

Sutro Baths were not a "bathhouse." You are misconstruing the name. They were baths for sea bathing aka salt water swimming for recreation, not a bathhouse like the public ones for cleansing yourself. I wish you'd correct this video since it completely gets the purpose of the place wrong. Sutro was essentially a giant indoor swimming facility.
