You really pulled something out here, which is the beauty of raw nostalgia. What I mean is: a pure impression that's uninhibited by the opinions of others. Thanks for sharing. I was sitting here thinking about when I played Super Mario World, and it was at my grandfather's house. We would visit him and I always was too shy to ask to play, but knew I'd be able to. He had the strategy guide for it so I knew about everything. I remember tracing all the pictures in the guide, Mario, Bosses, Etc. I do wonder about others' experiences and what it was like finding that stuff on their own. How cool. I was also wondering about your take on Kaizo Mario, the scene, ROM hacks etc. As I was watching you appreciate your own (vanilla) Super Mario World experiences, I was thinking that there's something fun--sure--about remixing the formula, but also sort of seemingly disrespectful to hacking the game etc. It seems to have really blown up when Mario Maker and Mario Maker 2 came out. Anyways, cheers :)

Thank you so much I appreciate it! :) Of course I'll always have a soft spot for the orignial but I've seen some amazingly crafted hacks from the ROM scene! (I've played a few) Not as big of a fan of Kazio hacks.. Honestly I haven't really tried one! But the ones that replicate the Mario formula more I really enjoy!

I think there’s something about the pixel art of older games that, without box art or anything, kind of gets people to interpret it in different ways. I never interpreted those platforms as melons when I was younger but as you describe it I can totally see where you’re coming from!

The entire forest world doesn’t feel real to me because I played it so much when I was young

I always thought the cork boxes in Super Mario 64 were graham cracker boxes, so I thought it was cool when you mentioned the graham cracker crushers in the castle

The ones that always stood out to me were the platforms with the number of seconds they lasted. I get exactly where you are coming from.

I'm glad I found someone who shared the same feelings about these oddly specific things in the game as a kid,I remember how unexpected seeing those green bubbles was and always thought they were acid balls as a kid and you may not be the only one having this nostalgic feeling towards those melon shaped platforms ;)

i have a super mario all stars cart that ive had since i was a kid and the entire back is just duct tape. like you can feel that it's hollow, it has no back shell on it, but it still functions properly and thats what i played growing up until i got like a wii u

I liked this video a lot! Although I played Mario World at an older age than when you did, I had a similar amazement of how much secrets there were in the game. (I also hated Tubular - I always just use blue Yoshis there.) Although new Mario games have a bunch of secrets there as well (Mario Wii, 3D world, New Super Mario Bros 2) none of them really felt the same as Mario World. As for the random nostalgia you mentioned at the end of the video, I can relate to that. In Mario 64 DS, I have weird nostalgia for the level you go through to unlock Wario. I don’t know if it’s the emptiness of the level or the unusual structure or what, but I do have that odd nostalgia. Now that I think of it, I also have that same feeling for the top of the stone box at the end of Peach’s Secret Slide - I always used Luigi to get there, and it was a great place to hide from others in multiplayer. Good video 👍

TMNT Tournament Fighters was awesome. I love that game. Along with the Power Rangers Mega Zord fighting game.
