The Toys R Us ad always makes me think of Christmas too. In a sad way I sometimes watch an old Toys R Us ad around Christmas to get me in the mood

That brought back some memories! Recognized a lot of those commercials. Grape Escape almost seems demented with all the killing going on!

Great 90's adverts video again! I had a Stretch Armstrong when i was a kid and mine broke as well. There was a rumour going around when i was a kid that the green stuff inside was radioactive haha :D

I remember that cabbage patch doll was recalled. If you had long hair and went near its mouth it would eat it. There were loads of complaints because little girls had their hair ripped out or shall I say eaten by the doll. I always remember a crappy newspaper (probably the sun) relating it to Chucky from child's play lol

+Blakeyboy1981 oh yeah i totally forgot about that, argh wish i remembered when i was watching the ad ha ha.

I got Mousetrap for Christmas one year and I never played it as it was intended - I used all the bits for my own made-up games and I used the little yellow tub as a hamster food bowl, haha!

I worked in Toys R us about hmmmm 5 years ago and Geoffrey was more of a thing IN the store rather than out of it. And the song would play a few times an hour. good times. I think I had the Doctor Dreadful Drink's maker. IIRC a lot of the Doctor Dreadful line were recalled since some of the ingredients were toxic to some children. I remember we got ours in a Kwik Save or Netto or some obscure smaller supermarket from back then.

+Robichoico (Robichoico) did the song playing every so often send some staff a bit crazy? ha ha, i remember getting a dr dreadful refill pack thinking it was a full set...i was very dissapointed that i had just bought some jelly mix ha ha

RADverts is a GREAT name!!! Love it! Quit lying i bet you were a HUGE Pound Puppy Fan! LOL DUDE I HAD VACMAN!!!!! He is my Holy Grail too! I need to find him!!! GREAT SHOW As you know I love commercials so this is a brilliant idea! I may steal this idea...I would LOVE to do a video like this!!! Also I think you should do a video where you review 90s Food Adverts!

So the boy in the Mouse trap ad plays the son in Mrs. Doubtfire. The boy in the Nerf ad plays Casper (the human version) in the 1995 movie and John Kassir AKA The Atom from the 1997 JLA TV movie is Doctor Dreadful. When it comes to 90's TV and Movies I never forget a face. The 80's and 90's were such a great time for cheap yet quality action figures and toys. Can't get my head around some of the poorly painted/un-articulated crap they palm off on kids these days. And the price is double what it was back then, but hey that's inflation for ya. Now I'm off to trawl through some of the ad compilations in the side column.....ah the memories.
@oddpodshow8 жыл бұрын
+Giantguy1321 oh yeah i recognise them now! ha ha thanks, its great looking at the old ads :)

Fantastic stuff and some great memories there. Sadly no, I don't think Geoffrey is part of the Toys R Us logo any more. (I checked 3 of the local ones via Street View.) I think he's still the official mascot though. Maybe he turns up on the leaflets, but I'm not sure. Ah, Mouse Trap. As someone at school found out, lose even one tiny piece of it and the game is useless. It took longer to set it up than it took to play it. Me, I preferred Ghost Castle. It had a lot more to do and 4 or 5 different traps. If there was any chance of making something like this but an 80s themed collection of toy ads, I'd be very keen to see that! :)

That's the Cabbage Patch Doll that was banned because kids were putting their fingers in its mouth and getting their fingers pinched! The idea that it ate and the food came out in a back pack was strange!
@oddpodshow8 жыл бұрын
+Toy-Addict yeah it is, i completely forgot until i had done the video. wish i had mentioned it ha ha oh well. yeah it is a strange toy.
@ToyAddict8 жыл бұрын
I loved Cabbage Patch in the 80's but don't think this is one I would have wanted. The face is a soft plastic so it moves with the mechanism and it makes some pretty creepy faces.
@oddpodshow8 жыл бұрын
***** yeah, best to stick to the original ones :)
@LeftoverCultureReview8 жыл бұрын
Did you see the new line of Dr Dreadful they bought out a few years ago? I picked up the Zombie Head and a Creepy Crawly maker... But lost all the ingredients during a move... Real bummer. I wanted the original set badly. I know we had Stretch Armstrong, I can't remember if we had Vac-Man... Was Stretch able to have the air sucked out like Vac? I distinctly remember that play feature. Maybe my brother had him...
@oddpodshow8 жыл бұрын
+Leftover Culture Review i dont think you could suck the air out of stretch, i had the one from the ad and i couldnt do it with that one. i saw a few bits from the new dr dreadful stuff..i think i even tried something from that range on an odd pod halloween special a few years back.
@shockz168 жыл бұрын
Yey! Was waiting on the next one of these. I think they still have Geoffrey at Toys'R'Us but it's been some years since I've been to one of those stores now so I'm not sure how much he is the face of Toys'R'Us these days. I know they gave him a re-design a few years back though and he looks well different from his original look. Tamogochi's are the most pointless things ever lol, I remember having one I fed it a couple of times, it died and that was end of that story. Such a short lived fad. For future genres of ads to cover I think maybe an home appliances one, think it would be quite funny looking back at all the old cd players, pc's, televisions, vhs players etc that we used to think was awesome in the 90's but are shite by todays standards lol.
@oddpodshow8 жыл бұрын
+shockz16 ahh home appliances is a good one :) ive not been in a toys r us for a long time either. i remember one that i used to go to had an entrance for adults and for kids you get in the shop by climbing up ladders then going down a slide into a big ball pit ha ha
