If you still have problems finding replacement glass parts for the oilers and site glass, that is something a glassmaker may be able to fabricate for you. They could make a carbon block mold for the outer dimension of the site glass and with a few tests should be able to blow the inner diameter close to what you need. .
@RonParker4 жыл бұрын
Depending on the dimensions and the accuracy requirements, you might even be able to buy the tubing off the shelf, then just cut it to length and flame-polish the ends. 5 feet of Schott 12mm x 2.2mm borosilicate tubing (just guessing at the dimensions of the sight glasses in the video) is less than three bucks from my favorite borosilicate supplier. Same with the oiler glasses, though those will take some practice to cut without breaking (or just cheat and use a wet tile saw) and it might be harder to find a close enough size.
@markschweter63713 жыл бұрын
@@RonParker some of those oiler glasses look like they're only cut and perhaps ground flat. We cut quartz tubing for small tube furnaces in-house, don't even grind or flame polish the ends.

@@howardosborne8647 Pretty sure all the ones I've seen are single start - but left hand threaded ones do exist. Even a single start opens far enough quickly enough for most needs. a six start forces the thread to be a very quick one - one 6th of turn moving as far as a full turn single start - it's not going to offer any great clamping force !

Keith, the arms on the angle vice are assembled incorrectly - if you unbolt them you will quickly see how they should go. The tap might be for tapping bronze nuts for use with linear positioning. When you have high number multi-start threads. It usually is when you need a lot of linear velocity (or acceleration) with a very limited amount of rotation. Very very interesting tap I will say. I agree with the fellow below that mentions it might be for optics. I could see that being used for extremely rapid movements of a mirror or lens, possibly used for tracking.

Are you sure it's six start thread? Going from memory, I think there is something amiss. You would think with a 4 flute cutter... 2 or 4 starts. If it is a 4 start thread, the actual pitch is 4 TPI. The crudest way to tell is to actually thread a hole and measure the turns per inch.
