I remember my first time in Senior All State Choir in Georgia (GMEA). I cried when we were doing warm up rounds because the sound of so many voices in united harmony. I got chills and couldn't hold back the tears. I can only imagine how these people felt when they started singing. Absolutely magical!

That these marvellous people bring tears to my eyes 12 months after the performance and so far across the world is amazing and humbling to me. Thank you, Japan, for sharing this tradition with the world and me, here in Birmingham, Alabama, USA. Would that this joy and warmth could permeate all our dealings with one another!

Beethoven equals the human spirit as triumphant. Most--if not all--of his music ends in triumph. Perhaps these Japanese folk are the ultimate tribute to this great composer. (Guess who my favorite composer is?).

Saya pernah baca komentar di YT, isinya "Japan is like different planet". One of the few things that gives me hope for humanity is that nearly a hundred thousand japanese people will practice and pay up to 1000 dollars to participate in this.... Honouring Beethoven for sure but singing to the absolute best of their ability Schiller's immortal words to what has laterally become the anthem of Europe, and moreover an anthem that demands us to be better.

Beethoven himself would have cried tears of pure joy on hearing this! How marvelous, yet sad to see that one has to travel all the way to the far east to see people celebrate Classical Music in this manner while in the west we are drowned by the cacophony of R&B, House, Hip Hop, Rap and Pop.

POW camp Bando, the so called “pow camp without walls”, where prisoners started a newspaper, band , and even a restaurant. ( there was an agreement between the pow co and the prisoners co, if no one tries to escape then the prisoners won’t have to build the walls, haha😂). By the way, where would German pow escape to in 1917 Japan 😂. This is also where baumkuchen was first introduced to Japan, now there are hundreds of baumkuchen bakeries and restaurants. And also these weren’t hardened soldiers and sailors, they were mainly shopkeepers and diplomats living in China
