9/22/22. Yes David , 2day saw another mighty fine video of your attention to detail on this smallish (12 ft w x 20 ft (?) long) cc slab for storage. Inside corner cold joint to existing house. 3 car Garage floor next/another video... Great video showing form set up/fiberglass 3/8" re-enforcement rods on 24" centers using broken brick as 'dobies' to elevate rods to mid-slab position for strength. Stress crack cut was 'off-center' for reasons joining future slab re: pouring new garage floor & driveway. Much enjoy watching as you perform these informative videos. Appreciate the enormous hard work you & team do to bring us these videos. 💪👍👍👍👍😊

Hi Mr.Odell! Love your video's. I have a question, we placed forms to build a driveway and it's that time of year that oak tree's drop seedlings and many of them dropped in the place to be poured here in 2 weeks. Will these seedlings needs to be picked up or do you think these seedlings have no chance of propagating and destroying the concrete in the near future? Thanks!

You are right. Just because in other parts of the world you rarely do concrete patios for a number of reasons, from technical aspects to traditions or simply cost (Not being allowed to seal the area for drainage reasons, just because it is uncommon and traditionally you would more likely find pavers, because concrete is only used as a substrate to lay tiles or whatever... I bet there are still numerous other reasosn why things are done different.), why don´t make it look nice where it is a common material. Here where I live in Germany concrete is mainly a structural material. You rarely see it afterwards. Sometimes they use it for roads with high truck traffic. But looking in other places like switzerland around Zurich, they do a lot of visible concrete. (Anyone familiar with Le Corbusier?) Personaly, no matter how "nicely done" I don´t like concrete that much, I would prefer some nice pavers or a wooden deck, but hey, thats personal preference and anyone is free to disagree with me on that one.

Would it be possible to do a 20x24 slab for a carport by oneself? if so how would you go about that? what would it cost to have a cement truck whow up and pour the slab..you can use your area..im in missouri myself.
@spyderyates4587
@spyderyates4587 Жыл бұрын
20 x 24 by yourself would be hard work.. I would make it 2 pours or if you haven't done this before do 3 or 4 pours. The thing about concrete is its not going to wait for. Once it's on the ground. The clock is ticking. When I do concrete by myself I limit the pour to 200 sq ft

Hello. I was wondering if you had any tips, or could make a video showing how to make a concrete base for a fence. Now to clarify, I'm not taking about for each post. I'm taking about making a trench or something inbetween each post that would be maybe 6 inches wide, and maybe 2 foot deep(or below the frost point in the ground). The purpose would be to deter dogs from digging under the fence. Or even an alternative using cinder blocks instead if that might end up an effective but cheaper method. Having them running the entire length of the fence.

David, I assume that the concrete is air-entrained since it was pumped. Now, I read in a few places that if the concrete is air-entrained then a wood float would no be the right thing. But, clearly, the wood float (+ wood trowels) followed by the fresno works a treat ... have I misunderstood something ?

Ok I’m doing a 10’x20’ 4” slab as well as a footing 12”x12” for a cinder block grouted retaining wall. I noticed you don’t put down any gravel before you pour concrete. Everything that I research on line says to put gravel down before you pour. But after watching a few of your videos I’m hoping I don’t need to do that. Been watching your videos for a long time love them! I'm still confused about concrete against the house. Like a stucco finish I would imagine it would suck up some of the moisture causing it to bond but the house will move regardless on it's own thus down the line thus I would imagine that would impact the slab. I know I'm wrong because I see this done all the time in other videos as well but I feel like separating it from the house with some type of foam or felt divider would be best long term. Why am I wrong though?
