Its quite brutal and im sure it ends with you beating him, gouging his eyes, and snapping his neck. Watch it on KZbin but I recommend you play it yourself it’s quite fun. I mean, looking at it both ways, Odin is both true and false about these three things, and more ofc. But here: Kratos did kill Heimdall, yes. But only because the latter wanted to kill Atreus. At the same time, it's because of Atreus' constant visits and leaving plus Heimdall's ability to read minds and people's true intentions/feelings that provoked him into thinking of offing him which lead to Kratos killing Heimdall in the first place. In a way, Atreus indirectly killed Heimdall without having a part at all in it beyond just existing. Thrud being at risk of herself because of Atreus is debatle but as Odin puts it, she's old enough to make and deal with her own mistakes. On the other hand, the one time this does happen was putting her with Atreues into one of the worst realms they could have been in which is Helheim. It was certainly risky and dangerous for sure when she saw Atreus free Garm, but Odin DID put her up to being there. Finally, Thor relapsing is a thing he did on his own but Odin certainly went at him enough to do it. Then again, it was still Thor's choice for giving in to drinking again. This one is about as 50/50 as the Thrud problem. Odin's surely the problem with at least 2/3 of these yet he isn't quite "wrong" either from a certain perspective. Doesn't make him any worse than he already is.

⁠@@mcdotterson4103Odin can tell his ravens to go on standby kinda - we know this because when Atreus goes back home from Asgard the first time, a raven stays at his old home, and Odin tells him to just let the raven know when he wants to come back. It sounds like you can use the raven whenever you want if you’ve already got access to one and Odin has agreed. He didn’t tell the ravens to bring them. They’d mention if he had. Also Thor really doesn’t need to be wound up to fight Kratos, at least not by Odin. Odin tells Thor to kill things and Thor goes and does it. I don’t think he’d worry about manipulating Thor into killing Kratos, he’d just order him to do it and then berate him until he obeyed. How Thor felt about it could not matter less. The reason he’s not doing it is because if Kratos dies now, Odin is going to have a much harder time getting “Loki” to work alongside his father’s murderer. Loki is the only one Odin doesn’t have absolute control over and he knows if he pushes the kid too hard too fast, he’s not going to get his mask questions answered.

I think he needs Atreus to look into the rift, either because a Jotunn has better odds of not being blinded, or because only Jotunns can use the mask. He is attuned to the Mask afterall. So he screamed because Thor was about to turn his one way ticket to mush. Also, Atreus is useful, so he wouldn't want to lose him. He looks at people as tools, keep that in mind. Atreus knows how to use Giant magic, unlike Thor, which is a great asset to Odin. Especially his ability to translate almost anything.

What makes it especially sad is when Thor says "Gotcha" and "Wasn't about to lose that mask" he doesn't sound _as_ aggressive as he normally does. It's almost like he's finally beginning to realize that Atreus isn't someone out to destroy his family or his home, he's just a kid who's had to make tough choices and sometimes made the wrong one. And then Odin shows up and completely ignores him, and he returns to his hateful mindset because Odin reinforces Thor's idea that Atreus is there to divide them. Then, when Sif tries to talk to Thor and show him what Odin is, Thor directs it at Atreus instead. Odin is such a poisonous figurehead that by just _showing up_ he fundamentally messed with the people around him and their responses.

I love just how real this whole argument is and how you can see where everyone is coming from. Sif is defaulting to supporting her family. She's not happy that the son of the man who's killed her children and brother-in-law is in Asgard. And at the end, when Atreus, Thor and Thrüd exit the bar, the two weapons exit in different fashion: Ingrid smoothly sails out and right back into her sheath, no worse for wear. Notice there's a slight Pause before Odin said "Started drinking on his own again", Odin is lying, and this is also a behavior that manipulators tend to do, they paused, did a quick thinking on how to picture the situation in their favor before laying out the lie. Recall in a previous scene where Thor was frustrated on Odin's decision to bring Atreus to Asgard and Odin ended the conversation with "Honestly I liked you better as a Drunk", which means Odin has a hand on Thor breaking down drinking again.

I cant even blame Thor for his outrage, he is mad because he cannot disobey his father even tho all of it was his father's plan. Before knowing about Heimdall's death, Thor almost treated Atreus like his own son, catching him while he almost fell for the cliff, saying "gotcha" and "wasnt about to lose the mask" are those words from a father where they love someone but they have that little hint of wholesome denial. Thor is the true victim here, he is a destroyer because he does not know what to do nor can he just break it off, his death was harsh and he could have redeemed himself from there but seeing Odin as he was i expected him to do that

I believe the reason Odin abused Thor rather than just manipulating him like everyone else, is because he feared him. Thor is probably the only one that could win in a fight against Odin and Odin is deathly afraid of prophecy’s, including the one of the cycle of children killing their parents. So for Odin it wasn’t enough to keep Thor in line, he had to keep him submissive and a tool. And as long as a tool has a use, Odin will keep it even if it is a danger to everyone around

@@frankwest5388 This makes sense. One thing that rang true about what Thor said was that he and Kratos are destroyers, specifically, gods whose divinities are tied to destruction. Everything about their godhood is that they can kill whatever they put their minds to, no matter how invincible or immortal it may seem. If Thor truly wanted Odin dead, he’d be dead, and there wouldn’t be anything anyone could do about it. Odin would’ve obviously known this, so he went well out of his way to keep Thor on his knees.

Odin is a genius... He could have easily found the mask pieces himself, but by sending Atreus to do it and letting him bond with Thor, he makes him feel like a valued part of the family and helps him feel accomplished in finding the mask and possibly averting Ragnarok. He was giving purpose to Loki so that in the end he would use the mask as planned. After all, Odin knew from the beginning that only Loki himself could use the mask once it was completed.

Every time I see a new clip I catch a new detail. When Thor pulls Loki up he dusts off his back in a caring way cause he has kids of his own but he quickly says he didn’t want to lose the mask so it doesn’t look like he really cares. When Odin comes Thor immediately goes to him but Odin walks right past him to get the mask and Thor just takes it cause it’s his evil father.
