Abhijit sir I am a very old subscriber of your channel I am from Odisha And I want to shade some light on Gajapati Kapilendradev. If you read it pls give a like so that I will know. Just like Chhatrapati Shivaji maharaj for maharashtra he was for odisha he is our godly king who brought golden age of odisha in the last 1000 years under his rule the Empire of Kalinga streched from Dhaka to Madurai. And due to him today Hinduism and Buddhism survived in South East Asia. He was the founder of suryawanshi Gajapati Dynasty after the imperial ganga Dynasty. The modern odia script was also came into existence during his rule before that odia language has multiple script. Odia art architecture and literature flourished during his reign. He was such a great warrior that during his rule and then his son and grandson rule many dynasties came and go in Delhi sultanate but no one never dared to attack Kalinga. Kapilendradev had defeated five sultanates namely jaunpur sultanate bahamani sultanate bengal sultanate malwa sultanate and Gujarat sultanate in 1 year alng with defeating Reddy's of rajmahendry and vijaynagar Empire. He also invaded Bidar and conquered Telangana. During his time the panchasakha union was formed which compried of 5 great poet and intellectual of odisha namely sarala das jagannath das balram das ananta das and yasovanta das. Under these poets odia ramayana odia Mahabharata came into existence along with odia translation of every hindu and Buddhist text was done into the odia. The odia maritime trade of Kalinga was exploded. He had an army of 500k khandayats (martial race of odisha) along with 10000 elephants and 100k archers and charioteers. With a navy of 1000 war ships. And also he acquired the title Sri Sri Sri ...108times Gajapati gaudeswara karnata kalbargesswari biradhi birabara sangrame sahasra bahu bhuta bhairava prabala parakrami trikaligadhipati mahadadhipati Kapilendradev routray. This is what I heard from my grandfather as my family were used to be paikray and champati ( military general and Village chief) under his rule and you can find out more about him in Wikipedia

Megasthenes, Pliny, Hiuen Tsang, they all have mentioned the ancient Kalinga as a great power. The maritime activities of ancient Kalingans is mind blowing. How they were able to travel to Bali, Java, Sumatra, Sinhala etc, about two thousand years ago, when there was no such navigation technology, also through such a usually disturbed sea. Unthinkable! You don't need appreciation from others. It's most unfortunate that most of the Odias still don't take pride of their own culture, own language. My profession brings me close to Odias , here in WB . Few years ago when I tried to talk with them in Odia , they would answer in either in Hindi or in broken Bengali. But I always insisted on speaking in Odia , and they gradually opened up finally. But , time has changed and I now find persons showing respect to their language. But , what shocks me is the immitation of Hindi and Bengali pronunciation style . If you pronounce GHARO in place of GHARAW it doesn't remain Odia and if you call it NAYAN in place of NAYANA , the basic structure of Odia articulation is destroyed. Why there is no self respect, why there is no efforts to keep the language intact . My ancestors left mainland Odisha 700 to 800 years ago , but still we love to identify ourselves as Odia . We love to hear about the states prosperity. Probably an Odia cannot give up his / her identity as a Leopard cannot change its spots . Therefore, we always nourish a soft corner for the language. Donot mind my unwanted intervention, I being an outsider .

Kalinga couldn't be conquered by emperor Chandragupta Mourya, it was the last kingdom to be defeated by emperor Ashoka who then lost his mental peace. It was the last state to be captured by Moghals but they couldn't rule directly. It was the last state to come under British rule in 1803 AD. Such a powerful state's economy was systematically demolished by Britishers & it was made the poorest state of India. So called British Indian historians of Calcutta & Madras university suppressed the proud history of Kalinga to uphold the pride of their regional history like the Guptas of Bengal & Cholos of Tamilnadu. The Gajapati dynasty of kalingas were much more powerful compared to Cholos & Guptas. Kalinga ruled from Ganga to Kaveri region & dominated south India as well as south east Asian countries. Reference to Kalingan history is found in text books of South east Asian countries. Unfortunately Indian historians & history books suppressed the pride of Kalinga. Even the king with whom emperor Ashoka had terrible war was not mentioned. Now it is high time to explore the lost history of Kalinga which in turn would rewrite the history of India & Asia as well. Thanks to Abhijit & Surya sir for showing the courage to change the narrative. Thanks from Ganjam & Cambodia where my families are staying for centuries.

Unfortunately the magnificent and glorious history of Odisha is unknown to the world. This episode gives a glimpse of that. More research, documentary, writings etc are needed to uncover the history and it should be taught in schools

I am from Cuttack, Odisha, and Baliyatra festival and special and most loved snacks of all Cuttackians "Dahi bara aloodum" . The richness of Odisha or Kalinga was never ever discussed as it is being discussed in this beautiful podcast.....
