A train driver cannot change tracks like a Bus or car. There is a switch involved when changing tracks that is controlled by the station master or controller of nearest station. The possibility of error could have been the switch to move train to loop track would have been kept on even after the goods train was moved to the loop line or the loco pilot of Coromondel express which hit the goods train must have skipped a stop signal which was kept on for the goods train to move to loop line. The third possibility could be technical issue with the loop switch where the status in control room will be showing as switch moved back to main line but in reality the switch would be still connected to loop line . There could be a possibility of the signal lights before the switch malfunctioning where it's showing as Green light instead of Red.

I'm from odisha most people died from the general bogies becoz people were inside the trains like insects. Nowhere space to even breath and so when the bogies fliped all died. Now were there supposed to be so many people? Why are trains being so overcrowded? Who is responsible? Overcrowded train are reality in india and hence when such incidents happen huge casualties are seen and being less people in train we can use safety technology to minimise casualties during a tragedy,now with so many people the safety is beyond possible. If a German shows this indian sentiments get hurt. Instead people should take critisism and show em Germans we are much more bt ofcourse if that's how people would react. From what is being expressed I gather that Railways have adopted Electronic controls to change points. This has never been before. It was all manual and they were very safe. You can pinpoint mistakes . Now the station master has Pressed the control button to change Track points from Main line to Loop line for Goods train which was stopped in the Loopline for Cormandel to pass. After that did station master press the control button for Points to change from Loop line to Main line or if he had pressed the button did the command to change points did its work are questions that the inquiry will have to find out. If the control button didnt work then why ? was it because of extreme heat ? Electronic equipments are prone to malfunctioning due to various reasons. We used to have manual points changing system but that needed atleast two persons x 3 shifts so 6 persons do away show more profit claim we have developed because electronic controlmany things with 1 or 2 staff in station we can run the railways show profit and privatise it.Simple philosophy of the govrnment is now exposed. Who do you blame?

Accidents can take place even with most developed transport systems. Does anyone remember about concorde flight in france whose tire bursted on runway due a metallic strip of 150 g? Its equipment failure.Apparently the control panel with station master showed Green meaning Points secured for Main line but in reality the Track points didnot shift Possibilities: 1. Electronic equipment command didnot pass to cause physical shifting of points from Loop line ( which allowed the goods to go and get parked) 2. Instead of showing Red to indicate that Points have not been changed the control panel lights showed Green so Station Master is of the opinion that Points have been changed. just like the EVM you press one button and vote goes somewhere and machine counts something.

This is what happened after 2 days of retrospection, as per the railway body: Both trains were crossing each other simultaneously. When the engines were crossing, both trains were on their respective lines. But, the problem happened in a few seconds later, after crossing the engine of Hiwrah express, the coromandel express got diverted from its line to the loop line (where, a goods train carrying IRON ORE was stationed) and collided with the goods train. Because, of this the Howrah express, not having crossed the entire coromandel express, got collided with the last few coaches of the coromandel express, which were thrown out after its collision into the goods train. So, either the drivers of both trains didn't have time to stop their train and by the swiftness of the Howrah express driver, who applied the brakes at the very last minute with full force, saved many lives in the Howrah express. But, on the other hand, coromandel express got the max hit and many (almost all) casualties are from this train. Hope this provides a clearer picture.

I think that this is most probably due to a human error where the station failed to reset the switch back to the main line once they had shunted the freight train to the siding. There is a possibility of technical failure as well where the station had thrown the switch but it didn't fall. Either way, this is one of the worst railway disasters to have happened in recent times. My heart goes out to the families of the victims of this terrible tragedy. I hope and wish the speedy recovery of all those who were injured and admitted to various hospitals.

Initially two collided is okay But how come third train joined the scene? Was proper signal not given to prohibit all trains in vicinity when two trains are already stuck in accident? Was kavach not there on third train? Why third train could not avoid collision?

The derailed train was Coromande exp . The coaches of this train were laid on the another side of the track in which howrah exp was at mps (130kmph) and the signal was also given green so this happened

Technology should be used to prevent such chaotic train movements, instead of creating AI images of Elon Musk in a saree. How could have this been prevented? How do they monitor train traffic and have better alarm signals for train drivers. It’s seems the Coromandel Express changed tracks coz it saw another train approaching from the opposite direction, but missed seeing another train was on the next track., and it seems to have been a stationary train.

No it didn't change tracks bcoz of train coming from opposite direction.. someone responsible for changing the tracks for the upcoming train didn't do it.. I have seen guys from railway station change the course of track using lever The goods carrier came there previously on the changed track.. after that the person responsible for changing it back didn't do it.. the Coromondal express came there on the unchanged track & hit the goods carrier already there

All the news channels are still showing wrong animation that means they are still not very clear about the complete incident after doing ground reporting for many hours. YPR express was already crossing on the adjacent track and except its last 2 coaches the entire train has crossed by the time Coromandel Express hit the goods train from behind and few of its coach has fallen on last 2 coaches of passing ypr express train. Otherwise we would have seen another engine and coaches on the spot and that would have been even more devastating than now. This animation has changed the complete scenario.😂

Is there any laser sensor which propogates rays from the locomotive engine to detect any obstacle in front of the engine from a long distance which cuts off the acceleration, Turn Off the engine and warning siren blown...If such system were there, this tragedy could have been averted...

​@@ms.550even if it was there, this could not have been avoided.The track change and the distance between the two trains is a major factor at a speed of 125 kms or 130 kms per hour. If such signalling errors , track switching errors, technical errors happen and the distance is short with higher speeds of train, we cannot avoid similar cases. So we must upgrade our signalling and related systems. May be something like a stand by system or a double tracking and monitoring mechanism.

What it looks like is that the pointsman changed the tracks for the goods rail. But did not change it back for the second train to go forward on the same line. Instead the track was left , the incoming train changed tracks and collision happened. Pointsman needs to investigated

The system will not allow the train to move into a loop line which is occupied by goods train. Hence this version can happen due to technical failure only.
