Thanks - I was surprised as they'd been in those pots far too long.

Was very happy to find this Roger and will relook at it before repotting mine in the spring. Interestingly as far as I can detect without taking it out of the pot it’s mainly potted in moss too!

Totally agree with you Roger about the sphagnum. I only use the live moss for short periods on plants which need a bit of root stimulization. Good video. Ed

I may start growing some live sphagnum outside somewhere - it looks good on the tops of pots. When your pots are still wet, do you just spray the surface moss to keep it moist/green?

I only use live moss for wrapping around almost rootless paphs, Will make a vid of this!!!! Use RO water to mist the surface moss just before the plant dries out. Ed

Your roots always look better than mine. I just repotted 70 of my Orchids because I made the mistake of using clay pebbles to pot in. I am exhausted! Live and learn.

I don't like doing too many at once or I find I start getting'sloppy' and don't clean off the dead roots and stuff.

Surprising as they had been in their pots a long time and the media was 'well gone'.

Just a thought here, Roger.... if moss breaks down to quick for your good bark, how about adding other stuff that holds a bit of moisture for those plants that like that? Perlite for example, or Synthic (which you could wash and reuse)
@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsai7 жыл бұрын
At the moment, extra moisture can just come from 'me' as I have the spare time. I have found that in clear pots perlite/sponge rock attracts algae and turns green - not really that harmful but looks unsightly. As for synthic (or shredded sweaters as Dani calls it) it has down-sides. According to Dani who as always did 'experiments' with the stuff, if allowed to dry, it's difficult to get wet again as the water just runs off so she stopped using it except on her Vandas that get dunked and left to soak giving it time to re-hydrate. I have a good supply of sponge-rock and it's main use will be with my Masdevallias and Paphiopedilums as their pots are tucked inside other non-clear pots. This means I can still see the roots but the light is excluded - Paphs are more like 'semi-terrestrials and my Masdes live inside clay pots as this helps to keep the roots cool.
