Roman remains have been turning up in an Oxfordshire field for decades, where a student in the 1960s believed he had uncovered a Roman mosaic. Is this the site of a lost grand Roman villa? Neil Holbrook takes charge, with contributions from Louise Revell (Roman archaeologist) and Mark Corney (Roman finds expert). Finds include a rare piece of Roman glass, a cheese press and a huge rustic pot from the 4th century. Stewart believes the River Thames used to run much closer to this site during Roman times.

Tony fulfills the role of the antagonist all good stories have. If you listen to him throughout the years he proved he knows a lot more than he lets on. He asks many questions the average viewer iz askin whilst watching the program. If nothin else I can tell by some of the comments some watch simply to see tony proven wrong. It should be strongly noted that if it were not for tony gettin together on a project before TT with Mick & encouraging him to produce a program such as TT there would be NO TT. Tis precisely Tony’s background in theater that he understands the role of the villain. That iz also why he projects loudly and gestures “bigger than life,” he’s used to entertaining the audience in the back row not as close as a tv camera & a mic dangling above his noggin. The program lasted 20 years; they had an amazing formula that created good clean entertainment of which tony was the catalyst. In most chemical processes the catalyst iz both exciting & irritating but without it the product cannot come and stick together.

I love watches Time Team. I open up a map and try to find the exact location. I try to find any ‘crop marks’ or evidence of their dig. I orient the map so that I can easily zoom in when specific areas are discussed.

As long time TT watcher, the most obvious question that springs to mind is why Phil is the first to be asked about questions about the site, i did think that Niel or Stewart would be 1st asked.

I think with Mick being a site director, the most of the 1st day were to do with planning. On the 1st day we would often see Mick up in the helicopter with Tony or Stewart, with Stewart trying to figure what the 'Lumps and Bumps' were, looking at history books and maps with Robin or Helen, field walking, looking at old field boundries and that sort of thing, i think very much later the story telling kicked it.

As a hobby farmer, 35 acres, in New England I find it odd that UK farmers plow as deeply as they do. It is not good for the micro biome of the soil.

Well, yeah, you're a hobby farmer there is a lot you don't know about real farming. If it was not necessary to plough so deep farmers wouldn't do it, it uses more fuel and more time.

Keep in mind that we know more about soil and what makes it healthy than they did 50 years ago; farming practices are always changing as we learn more, just as they should be.

I am so tired of Tony. He seems to not understand that archeology is a slow process filled with more frustration then glorious finds. Phil understands this and is rarely discouraged. Tony expects to immediately find mosaics and murals or hoards of coins. He feels unless great finds are found the dig is a waste of time. This is why I like Phil and Matt as they get excited when they eventually find things. Too many times an archeologist drill dig and dig only to find evidence of rubbed out walls. It is time for Time Team to dump Tony and let him get back to the theatre where he is best suited. Just MY opinion.
