Hey fam, tired of bug guts and rock chips? I'll be doing an unboxing and install video of the OEM Toyota Hood Deflector! This product is only sold by dealerships in Canada and I luckily live in Washington State which is on the Canadian border so I made a trip to visit some friends while picking up this product. Enjoy!

Good video and no annoying music in the background. I had to laugh at the Canadian units. It's actually metric units or as we call it for our American friend, "the rest of the world units".

Thanks, OEM was the only one I wanted and I wasn't going to pay the ridiculous shipping costs from Canada! Finally jumped at the opportunity to pick it up once the US/Canadian border reopened and it was worth the wait.

I just got the weather tech deflector for our 2022 Rav4. Haven’t installed it yet but it looks like it might be flush like yours. No mounting brackets though just adhesive tape already attached. Came with alcohol wipes, prep wipes.

The new 2023 Highlander Limited and Platinum editions have power folding mirrors. Maybe oem parts can be retrofitted to 2020-2022 trims.
@vietbubbletea
@vietbubbletea Жыл бұрын
I've been debating about sourcing OEM parts since the auto folding mirrors have been available in European markets for a few years now but it'll be pricey. I'm sure the US version would be similar, we'll see!

I initially had the same concerns but found that since th deflector sits elevated on the hood that a pressure wand could blast out any debris and clean with a microfiber towel underneath with no issues.

Excellent video gentlemen! Have you run you vehicle through a car wash yet? any issues with the car wash blowers lifting the deflector or rattling it loose?
@vietbubbletea
@vietbubbletea Жыл бұрын
I hand wash my car so not sure how the deflector would handle the rotating brush/mop or blowers from a car wash. I would imagine that it would hold up well as long as the rotation is into the hood and not away. I've also driven in high wind at freeway speeds and have not seen or heard any rattling. Most car wash blowers face the front of the car which helps plus the screws do a pretty good job securing the deflector to the hood and the rubber mounts also help to damper and reduce flex from my observations. Thanks for the engagement!

Not sure if I would want all that tape and bump stops mounted to the hood giving dirt and salt a place to collect. A clear bra attached to the front may be another option to protect from rock chips but it won't redirect wind over windshield.

Exactly the same thing - they discontinued the hood deflector for Toyota 4Runner in the US while they are still selling it in Canada, only it's under a different part number. I don't understand Toyota about this at all. And the OEM part fits better or personally I like more how the OEM deflector attaches to the hood than the bulky 3rd party/aftermarket no matter is Weathertech, AVS or whatever. Especially I don't like that the aftermarket or 3rd party deflectors go under the hood, over the hood edge, I don't like that.

Would metal brackets or any part of the deflector damage/crack the paint on the hood over time? I want to order one from Toyota Canada and am willing to pay the ridiculous shipping cost because it is not available in USA somehow.
@vietbubbletea
@vietbubbletea Жыл бұрын
The mounting points using the metal brackets used on the 4th generation are very similar to the 3rd generation Highlander and I haven't heard many issues with paint damage. I initially had those same concerns but after installing the OEM set, no metal brackets come into contact with the painted surface so I don't see that being an issue.

Will there be any metal to paint contact? That rectangular clear film is large enough?
@vietbubbletea

The supplied clear 3M tape I applied at the 4:14 mark covers the area well and prevents any metal from touching the paint as I initially had similar concerns.

@vietbubbletea
@vietbubbletea 9 ай бұрын
I've seen pics of the Weathertech product from another member and learned that it directly adheres to the hood compared to how the OEM product is raised off the hood and creates two airflow channels above and below the hood deflector which I prefer. How has your Weathertech hood deflector experience been on your Highlander?
