In 2015, I was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Failure. Both of my kidneys failed so bad, they're practically useless. I was alone in New Zealand (I'm a Malaysian, went to Auckland for my bachelor's), no one was by my side when the doctor told me abt the bad news. I listened to this song on repeat every night before bed, and cried myself to sleep everytime. No one would ever love me when I'm this way, I thought. My body's broken and so was my spirit. My father flew to Auckland from home to be with me. The first thing he did when he saw me was he hugged me so tightly and said "Don't worry, I promise you I'll take care of you. You will never have to be alone anymore". And he's still here with me, through every tear, every surgery and every dialysis. I thought I needed a man to take care of me. I forgot I have my Dad. Insane Jester That's great! Probly, it reminds you of something happy in your life. Diff people will have diff reactions to the same stimulus. The song itself is kinda heartbreaking, but to me it also has to do with the fact that it reminds me of the person who introduced me to this band and the time immediately afterwards, when she and I started drifting apart. If you pay attention to the lyrics, with maybe 1 or 2 exceptions, even the upbeat, jolly sounding tracks have melancholic lyrics. It's a shame that almost no one knows this song. It's an absolute masterpiece, from the soft and gentle music to the meaningful lyrics. This also reminds me of when I was a teen and I got into a car crash because a drunk driver collided with us. I remember the immense sadness from when no one came to visit me. The only one who did was my now wife. She was a close friend back then, but she was the only person out of my friend group who went to the hospital when I reached out to them telling them about my crash. I remember listening to the album this is from on repeat, because it gave me a little bit of happiness when I needed it. Thank you to Of Monsters and Men for being my favorite band and helping me get out of the pit of depression I was in after this.

i've always translated this song as being sung from the perspective of a girl heartbroken over her love for a boy - feeling like she was never able to do it right, the way she feels like her love deserves. she feels unworthy, feels like he is one of the most important people to her, yet, cannot love him because there are so many others out there better for him. i thnk the minotaur is the girl, and the serpent is the boy - and there are plenty more fish in the sea, plenty more others who would better fit the beautiful serpent than a (wonderfully magical) land animal such as herself, and she feels like she is from a completely other world - one in which she will continue travelling throughout on her boat, constantly on the move, never settling for someone who just wants to simply swim along with her on her journey.

The worst part of being aromantic is when you just don’t love someone back, not because you don’t want to, but because you just don’t feel what they feel, but even so you see everyone being so deeply affected by the rejection while you just feel nothing, no void no missing part no hole in your heart that needs healing, just nothing but seeing everyone react so differently makes you feel like the outsider that you are, they understand how the rejected one feels and why they are so hurt, but you just aren’t able to grasp why they feel that way and start questioning what it is you’re missing out on, if it is worth it to try and grasp this weird feeling you can’t reach yet you hesitate after seeing how hurt someone can get through it, but then you still try to taste this forbidden fruit, and you never reach it, you never taste the flesh, you never feel it in your palms, you never even find it in the first place. this song is really personal to me. recently I found out that I'm aromantic, it means that I can't feel romantic attraction towards others and... that's sad. And about feeling out of place, well, that happens to me as well because I'm not like the people around me. All we have to do is go search for people similar to us. Edit 2: I'm not saying emotions are irrelevant. I'm saying they are often a weakness. I do not consider logic and reason to be a social construct. Reason and ethics and knowledge is what allowed men to civilize and progress, while other creatures remained primitive. If your emotions make you want to rob a bank, does not mean you are supposed to go on and follow your emotions. I ask you to go and have a look at the man known as aristo who lived during the time of Stoic Philosopher Zeno. He believed we should abandon reason and always rely on our emotion (something like that) . Contemporary philosophers tried arguing with him that such ideas will lead to chaos and carnage. We can't abandon emotions, we simply can't. Attempting to do so is trying to fly on our own. What we can do is try not to follow it too much. For example, emotions instead reason is what often leads people towards toxic relationships. The result is chaos.

And being aromantic doesn’t mean we’re emotionless. I’m also aromantic, most of the time I’m fine not being in a romantic relationship. At the end, all of them ended because they felt “I wasn’t like a lover” and I couldn’t change that way of acting and feeling. That’s just who I am. But I can’t give a big talk about this i guess, since I don’t quite understand it myself. I don’t know how to tell you, I love my family and friends. In my interpretation of this song the fact she says she can't love him, doesn't mean she doesn't love him. Initially it seems as though she doesn't, but then she begins to reminisce about moments of closeness between them. At that moment in the video you also see that the serpent is staring back at the minotaur. The song is about two people who should be together but are separated by circumstance. In the metaphor in the video the minotaur doesn't belong on the sea and would one day have to return to land.

For me, this song always reminds me of the end of a relationship, where one person has fallen out of love for one reason or another and is trying to still love the other, but just can't for one reason or another; and the other still loves them and doesn't necessarily realize anything is wrong (or is trying to fix things or in denial if they do).

So there was a boy. We were good friends and I really thought we were soulmates. But we lived in different countries. I was so into him, but I didn't know he had a crush on me back then, but one day he just sent me this song. I never analyzed the song itself, but the melody was actually sad and the lyrics were sad as well. Even so, after a week or two, he became my boyfriend. A little bit later, I realized that he was trying to say was that, even if we love each other, our love wasn't gonna be The Story of Love, the one literature sells to you, or even fantasy and stuff like that. We were together for over a year, but we, indeed, couldn't love each other; not in the way we needed or deserved. We even broke ourselves so many times. Or at least me. Sometimes I call him my first love, sometimes I don't. The truth is... that sometimes I want him back. Because even if I can't love him, I really want to love him.

I know what it is about. It's about a girl and a boy.. They fall in love every thing is great. Girl leaves, moves to another country... She can't take the distance because of the pain that comes with it. She try's to leave him. Boy does everything in his power to stay with her, he doesn't succeed because the girl thinks she cannot love him, she doesn't want to deal with the pain anymore, and loses her love for him, while the guy continues to fight for although he cannot get her no matter what he does..

I was kinda led to this song by a friend of mine who is aromantic. He wrote a story based on the entirety of the album it’s from (My Head Is an Animal) about a girl who has a meltdown relating to being pressured into telling her friends about her crush, which she can’t, because she’s aromantic, and she uses the album as solace. Anyway, this song is really beautiful. I like that it can just be seen in a whole variety of love-related contexts.

When I get married I hope to hear this song, when my funeral comes around, I hope this song plays. I can relate tbh, I found out that I'm lithromantic and this lead to my long term, long distance relationship to collapse. My partner was devastated and he so badly tried to reconnect with me romantically for a couple of days and I tried to reconsider my decision, but then I found out that he got a date 4 days after our relationship ended. I tried to make it work out after, but in the end, it never did.

This song is hitting me hard, right in the feels. And i'm crying... "cause, ..it's my story. I cant forget, and i cant forgive me. There was that guy, the sweetest i know, everything was just right with him. And we got together and he loved me more than i would ask. But.. i wasnt able to do the same. I wanted it, i really wanted, for one time, feel that sweet emotion. But nothing came and .. i broke his heart..., twice. It's just until not long ago that i realised that i wasnt able to fell in love at all and,.... it's a bitter feeling to put a name on it. Today, i just hope for one only thing : i want him to meet someone, to get the love he deserve, because, there's no one like him and, he need to believe in love again.

This is the story of a minotaur who have lost the way to back home when he was sealing for big adventures that land could offers to him. One day he crossed the path of an ocean serpent that curiosly chase him underwater cause he have never seen a creature so different from him. Minotaur at the point of full suffer lost all hopes to carry on and all he could do was to staring at his reflection on the line of the sea crying for being so stupid. The ocean serpent watching at him felt that the loneliness was the same as him cause he was the most dangerous creature undersea and beacause of that anyone would stay in his company. The serpent fell in love with the minotaur but he was too scared of the idea that once he would show up the minotaur would run away like evryone else. So they both keep staring at their fears Gray clouds over minotaur are full of his depressing feeling of loose it all. The serpent absorbed in dark water of insicurity. If only they have known that the only force for getting trought was behind a thin layer of drops....

kind of crazy how this is the only song to EVER make me cry ive never gotten emotional because of a song before i just think of it as someone who physically cant feel love but the person keeps giving love to them no matter how much she loves him romantically she'll never know actual love "maybe im a bad, bad, bad, person" is her feeling guilty because she wants to feel love for him so so so so so much but just cant stuck at loving him as a friend even though if she could feel love she knows she'd want him "in a room full of people less important than you" shows that she cares very much for him but just cant give the same feelings back and that makes her guilty because she wants to feel the same but just cant its not that its one way because she doesnt like him its that she just cant feel those emotions so sorry for messy typing emotions yknow ;-;
