We guided a monster through many battles for the perceived justice of purifying lands infested by specters, only becoming aware of our sins as the Batter’s guide when we turn back on our initial guidance, yet we can’t do anything to stop what happens, enslaved to fate as we continue as the Batter’s guide until we reach a faux-ultimatum, one where we have absolute no control, we either finish guiding the monster to deal the final blow, or we simply stop the killing blow and allow decay to return the zones to the absolute 0 of nothingness The elsen: the poor bastards of a very cruel world, each a pathetically frightened coward, so pitiful is their strength that their emotions alone are enough to kill them and turn them into a spectre, but such was the case for one specific elsen, that they can be turned into a most pathetic spectre, unable to do anything else other than call for help, so pathetic is this form that even the batter doesn’t feel right killing them if it weren’t for the fact they impede his mission, and across all the zones, the elsen are treated rather poorly at varying degrees, in 1, they are being worked to the bone and are berated by Dedan if they dare delay by a second, in 2, they were first blessed by their guardian, Japhet, who alleviated their fears by completely wiping out the spectres, but because timidity is their nature, they unintentionally drove Japhet mad as he then turned on them, unleashing the spectres to kill them, in 3, they’re worked to death and controlled with sugar which alters their minds and bodies, these warped elsen are much stronger than normal elsen and aren’t nearly as pathetic as they even fight spectres, but yet they’re an even sadder sight to bear witness to as they lose their minds

Either way, everything's decaying and dying in the kingdom (not just in the literal sense, but also considering the whole game is based on a dying child's life). The Batter's only real goal is to speed up the decay and effectively take away the suffering component by destroying the kingdom and killing everyone. It's messed up but technically he's right, the closest thing to a "happy ending" here is just putting everyone out of their unfathomable misery by killing them. The kingdom is too far gone to save, and even if you stop the Batter, that remains true; all stopping him does is leave the kingdom in its hellish limbo to slowly decay into a cesspool of misery and, eventually, nothing.

There are a couple of fangames made in an attempt to continue (or sometimes invert) the story. Some of them are really great continuations while the rest don't make even the slightest sense. I suggest you look up and play "HOME" and "Continue Stop Rise", they are the best ones there is.

Let me summarize everything, in what i see it: Sucre/Sugar was just afraid of the world Dedan wanted to help, but, well, *anger issues* Japhet went ape shit with the Elsen and Valerie Enoch tried to grant his population what he promised, but he ran out of options The Queen was trying to protect Hugo from being attacked with baseball equipment Hugo is a god, but he couldn't do anything The Judge is, well, the Judge And the Batter saved the world by killing everyone, so that no one would be killed in the end

Japhet wanted everyone to be happy, but his elsens couldn't help but he terrified. If I recall correctly (it's been a hot minute so forgive me) Japhet's realm was the more carnival esc out of all of them with fun activities and everything. He just wanted them to stop being so scared to live but in the end it drove him mad

I love that fact that every character in this game is particulary tragic. And the boss themes catch this perfectly. Dedan disappeared and lost everything he loved, his elsens and his zone 1. Japhet at his last breath vanished feeling remorse, hate and mixed feelings with his elsens, the people who tried to help but they were very afraid even to live. Enoch couldn't control all the power he had, he carried too much and saved too little. (He deserved that however). Sugar/Sucre was just an addict girl that was prisioned for her own safe... But eventually her mental state drove her to madness and she never was able to see Zacharie again. The Queen failed at protecting Hugo from the Batter's grasps and all she attempt to defend him was in vain. The Judge (Pablo) wasn't able to see the real intentions of the Batter and helped him to destroy all the reality. // The Batter knew very well his purpose and we were always using him to finish the decadent world that Hugo created... This game is a metaphor fuel and that's why I love it. Thank you, Mortis Ghost.

Isn’t it all but confirmed that the player is the father of the kid and you’re figuratively killing him? He created the world, and you’re putting a stop to it via the batter. The batter makes it clear right at the start that he is controlled by you, so I think it’s safe to assume that the game is basically one big figurative way of killing a child’s imagination

As much as I liked a game where I could finally not kill the enemies, at the end the game left me with nothing. I didn't want to replay the game because I would not dare to even touch Papyrus. And you can indeed avoid fight. You start to feel bad when you decided to do shit, and Chara was ... Just a jumpscare in my eyes OFF, in the other hand, gives u a set where it is necessary to "purify" the ghosts, and gives the guardians a bad look overall. Is not until further the game that you start to question if the purification is effectively a good thing, and the more I continued the more I was uncomfortable with the story (in a good way). I had no choice until the very end, and at the very end I could really face what I did. Undertale gave me a choice I wanted OFF gave me the wanting of said choice Also I know it's stupid but DAMN I cried as a baby whel the Elsen in Zone3 was killed by the ghosts "Who are you all?" "Are you... Spectres?" "You... You're not bad ghosts, right? " "O... of course not... You're our friends." *Gets hit by ghost, blood* "This... This isn't a serious injury... I'm sure-" *Interrupted, gets killed by ghost*

I think each theme fits their own game well. The OFF boss themes sound hollow and unsettling, matching the rest of the game. Megalovania, on the other hand, is a lot more fast paced, just like Sans' fight. It's just not fair to compare them because they're so different.

He doesn't actually look like that- Mortis Ghost confirmed that that was just how he looked to the judge (who was apparently hallucinating? He does mention he hallucinates in Zone 0 so it's not too much of a stretch).
