Nekorun How exactly are these cameras implemented, anyway? Do the GPU plugins intercept GTE calls and create openGL primitives that a developer can then arbitrarily manipulate? Apologies - I am not too hot with graphics programming. I am curious because I wonder if something like this might enable 3D VR PSOne rendering.

That tiki behind the boulder can actually be seen normally by backtracking once you've reached the end of the level. Although it's kinda tricky to pull off due to the now seemingly impossible gap, you can still get across by jumping to the sides much like you would to avoid the pits in Crash 2's jungle levels.

I'm a Crash Bandicoot fan and your off camera is interesting and I learnt some interesting stuff. For example the rendering technology is a major step in saving graphic process power for the actual visible part of the level. This reinforce my opinion about how beautiful and detailed is this game, specially for its time! I love this off camera exploration you did! That allows to catch some details or simply just get a better view on some elements I always wanted to have a look on and from a different perspective. Thank you Shesez for this video and to the one who developed this camera exploration thing.

If you see developers documentary on Crash Bandicoot, where was the PS1 limits of 1MB per level load (which means graphics,textures, animations, code etc) So till then all the games like tomb raider 1 load the entire level in 1MB total, so the first 3d games were very low quality both in textures and geometry. So what the Naughty dog devs did, split the 1MB memory into 64kb chucks and load only the blocks with 64kb that the player passes through, and the other do a swap from disk(Disk did around a 1-2 secs to load the blocks) So they were the first devs that slit the memory and using only the blocks they wanted on fly by loading the nearby blocks. So they were able to push more data on each level cause they buffer it. Then other devs carry the same technique. Also, the animation was vertex animation not joint animation like today and they used an algorithm like jpg to optimize the animation of Crash. (Crash was 500Tris pretty high polygon back then) imagine we are talking that Windows 3.1 was at that time and they could only load 100Tris on the software, they hadn't GPU that can calculate triangles, it was VGA. So the devs use Silicon Graphics machine to build it.
@VGHSyntheticOrchestra7 жыл бұрын
I wish developers did were are smart or as good at their job as they used to be. They made so much possible with what they were given. Now, we have almost 80 GB to 100 GB games that won't run without a day-one patch, and even after that it sometimes doesn't work the way it should.

During the remake's equivalent to the idle animation involving Crash tossing a Wumpa fruit into the air, you can actually move Crash while the idle animation plays. To do so doesn't cause the Wumpa Fuit to disappear; instead, it still lands on top of him regardless, essentially allowing you to play as a purple juice-colored Crash until you use his Spin Attack.

The water effect is interesting in the ripper roo arena. There seems to be 2 textures, the bottom and the surface of the water (transparent dark base with cartoonish waves?) and they are both waving infrequently in order to simulate realistic refraction of light bouncing through the flowing water. The pink and green spots on N-Brio would be down to the vertex based animation- as said in an interview during E3 the developers said that for the explosion animations for crash they just "squished" the model into the shoe so it wouldn't be seen!
