I don't actually think this avoids head glitching though. For a crosshair to be accurate i.e. the bullets hitting where the crosshair is, the bullets have to come from the position of the camera. With a lowered crosshair, the bullets simply are shot with a slightly downwards pointing vector. If the bullets were shot from a position below the camera, they would undershoot at short distances and overshoot at long distances. That the bullets still come from the camera however means that you can still "head glitch", you just point up while doing so.

Less about oddly placed crosshairs and more on unusual aiming, the Receiver games go to amazing lengths to make it feel like you are actually handling a firearm. Centered crosshair is superior because it is more natural, when you look straight forward naturally your eyes align with the horizon - not slightly down. Plus it has been the FPS staple for a while with people having natural muscle memory as to where the center of their screen is. With that said, I understand people like the feature and wish more games had the option for both centered and off-centered crosshair like Halo: MCC. Having the viewmodel lower on the screen is what every shooter did until 2008 or so. I remember how every game started having big ass view models once FPS games became big on consoles and I hated it. In some games, the view models cover almost a quarter of the screen. I mean seriously, compare a game like Half-Life 2 to current games like Apex Legends. Heck, some games like Battlefield have such big view models that they sometimes touch the crosshair, which I find extremely irritating.
@garbaj2 жыл бұрын

@tbotalpha81332 жыл бұрын
@@wilhufftarkin8543 I wonder if it's like that because the developers assume players will be playing on a couch-and-TV setup instead of a desktop monitor, and so the guns are made to be huge so that players sitting far away can see them easier? Meanwhile people playing on PC have the screen right in front of them, and so wouldn't need as much help to see what weapon they have equipped?
@wilhufftarkin85432 жыл бұрын
@@tbotalpha8133 Yep, I think that's the reason. I kinda miss those times when PC and consoles had different games. Until the PS3 and Xbox 360 came out, shooters on consoles were fundamentally different. Once they figured out a good way to emulate PC controls on a controller and once the console hardware was "good enough" to develop the same game for every system, developers got lazy and started to simply port the console version to PC. To me, that was the point when shooters became significantly worse. Nowadays, they aren't as bad anymore as they were during the PS3/360 era, by far, but we still have to deal with remnants of this era, like big-ass view models, Call of Duty controls, no server browser, etc. I would love to know what AAA FPS games would look like if they were designed 100% for PC and if MW2 hadn't happened. Edit: I mean it's good that everyone can play almost every game, but I think merging PC and console genres has been a net loss when it comes to game variety. Classic console platformers and classic PC shooters and strategy games are mostly a thing of the past, at least when it comes to AAA games, which is a shame.

As an unreal engine user I can say from experience it doesnt really matter how the weapon mesh is alligned when aiming down sight. I played Halo for a long time and understood and appreciated the reasoning for lowering the crosshair. However I think the lowered crosshair benefits console gameplay significantly more than PC gameplay due to having higher accuracy and speed at your disposal with the mouse. Despite having played Halo on console for a long time, being completely a PC gamer now I find centered crosshairs to be much more desirable and more natural. Over the past several months I've been playing Hunt exclusively, and while you are right that you get used to a lower crosshair, I still find myself wishing centering it was an option. It also doesn't help that I've been doing Aimlab for warmups and training, and I find that switching back-and-forth between Hunt and Aimlab's crosshair setup can be jarring. I also worry that aim training with the centered crosshair won't translate 1:1 in Hunt's lowered crosshair, though I will say I've noticed improvement anyway. I still find myself wondering "would I be doing even better if the crosshair placement were consistent?" though.

I will say that I don't think a lowered crosshair makes it harder to align models. I've fiddled with it a lot while modding Dying Light and experimenting with it in Unreal Engine 4. The thing is, you have to code in the position of the gun regardless, as it's resting place in the corner of the screen, and the ADS position are both separate coordinates that need to be coded. The only change from lowering the Z-axis coordinates (assume that's the up/down axis in most game engines) is the X-axis rotation on top of that, so it's not a lot more work that you already have to do. And if the game is planned to have a lowered crosshair from the beginning, like HUNT: Showdown, the developers would already do that from the beginning, so it doesn't take time out of their day to go back and change it later.

I'm a huge Hunt: Showdown fan, one of my all time fave games... and I bloody hate the uncentered crosshair. Never noticed it when playing halo, but with Hunt I constantly (despite 700+ hours) find myself pre-aiming based on muscle memory from other shooters with centered crosshairs, and my shots are just way too low. I hadn't considered headglitching in terms of crosshair placement-- that's a good reason to make the change, but I still fucking hate how it feels to have my camera tilted up to the sky in order to aim at head level.
@denodagor2 жыл бұрын
Same thing here, could never get used to it in Hunt (tho i never played Halo). Also I'm pretty sure it makes no difference for headglitching, changing the angle will not make any difference. What would is the point from which the bullet comes out of, usually the camera at eye level, so you'd have to lower it to match the gun model, not angle it down.
@MillerTM2 жыл бұрын
Usually to counter the issue of headglitching in centered crosshair games, they put your eyes around the neck area. Battlefield 4 did that a while back and it had some weird consequences when it came to shooting out of some windows.

Not sure if it's been mentioned already but I love the non-static crosshairs in Titanfall 2. Red Orchestra and I believe Rising Storm did this too (same developers) where your gun including in ADS has some freedom of movement within the screen before the actual first person view starts to follow it, meaning the crosshair is almost never centered on the screen. I never quite got comfortable with this system but if you haven't heard of these games yet and their aiming system it's VERY applicable to the topic and an interesting quirk I don't recall seeing almost anywhere else.

1. The viewmodels do not need to be bigger with a centered crosshair 2. I’m surprised you left out the major benefits for games like Halo. The lowered reticule allows for a more “vertical” screen setup to account for the heavy verticality of Halo games, same with Destiny. You have flying vehicles, platforms above you, enemies that can jump extremely high, and more. Destiny added in sliding and more complex maneuvers where you find yourself below the enemy even more often! Simply lowering the h reticule a bit gives a similar effect and feel to the Snyder Cut where he shot in 4:3 because hero comics are much more vertical and in my opinion, the Snyder cut looks incredible and it made me want to see more films and games go back to 4:3. I think that widescreen and a centered reticule works for most regular shooters and action games where you need a wide field of view to catch a glimpse out of your “peripheral vision” on the screen and mostly fight in wide open battlefields in largely 2 dimensions. I particularly like the lowered reticule for games like that, especially because I hate when big chunky guns take up a ton of screen space. As much as I LOVE Doom and Doom Eternal, those guns be CHONKY and some of them glow and other nonsense I feel like it could really benefit from dropping the reticule a bit and lowering the guns by quite a bit. Sometimes I play in classic mode with the gun centered and that is really fun for novelty, but it actually really helps with seeing enemies and stuff at that fast pace! If you haven’t tried the classic gun position setting in the new Doom games, I’d highly recommend running a level or two with it and see what you think!
@BrickBuster25522 жыл бұрын
"Verticality" doesn't make a lot of sense though, because "verticality" is up... AND DOWN, meaning a player with a lower crosshair centered forward is gonna have a harder time spotting someone beneath them. It also makes it harder for a player to fight someone who's dropping down to their level.

I am in the same train as CloudPhase, the lowered crosshairs on HUNT was a dealbreaker for me. I aint that much of a competitive gamer, but ive come too so to centered crosshairs that off centered ones felt so unnatural. Not only in the moment of aiming, but it also gives me motion sickness (never had that issue with games before), to the point it becomes nauseating to look a little upwards than usual, just to have my crosshairs where they should be. Besides HUNT while also has the benefit of verticallity, one must spend quite some time staring at the floor for traps or glass/puddles, having to look even further downards. I would really like if it was a customizable option, to have them off center by default, but to give the player an option to center them if they want to. Sure, it may beat some of the purpose, and it would be even more complicated to program, but I would really apreciate that option.

Scope mounts are angled to force you to tilt the rifle up, this is where long range shooting gets kind of involved kids it's not for everyone. But you actually would have to angle your rifle down to shoot what you want depending if the round and MOA of the scope base and distance to target so there is some realism in having the models tilted down, potentially. I think old rifle would do this with iron sights to like the G98 and it's roller coaster sight that had a minimum range of 300 meters holding below your targets was necessary.

Repent and follow Jesus my friend! Repenting doesn't mean confessing your sins to others, but to stop doing them altogether. Belief in Messiah alone is not enough to get you into heaven - Matthew 7:21-23, John 3:3, John 3:36 (ESV is the best translation for John 3:36). Contemplate how the Roman empire fulfilled the role of the beast from the sea in Revelation 13. Revelation 17 confirms that it is in fact Rome. From this we can conclude that A) Jesus is the Son of God and can predict the future or make it happen, B) The world leaders/nations/governments etc have been conspiring together for the last 3000+ years to accomplish the religion of the Israelites C) History as we know it is fake. You don't really need to speculate though because you can start a relationship with God and have proof. Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life. - Revelation 3:20 Revelation has been unfolding since Jesus died. The Popes have claimed to be equal to God and set themselves in Jesus' place (antichrist(s)). Vatican City (Which is its own nation BTW) have risen up to fulfill the role of the false prophet Regarding the man of lawlessness or antichrist, 2 Thessalonians 2:4 says “Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sits in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.” The restrainer that the Apostle Paul was referring to in 2 Thessalonians was the Western Roman Emperor, who held back the Popes from taking power. Once the last Western Roman Emperor was removed from power in 476 AD, the Pope was given civil and ecclesiastic authority over Rome; healing the deadly head wound of the beast in Revelation 13, as they took the Emperors title of Pontifex Maximus, leader of the church and state. “We may according to the fullness of our power, dispose of the law and dispense above the law. Those whom the Pope of Rome doth separate, it is not a man that separates them but God. For the Pope holdeth place on earth, not simply of a man but of the true God.” (Source: “Decretals of Gregory IX,” Book 1, chapter 3.) Pope Pius V blasphemed, “The Pope and God are the same, so he has all power in Heaven and earth.” (Source: Pope Pius V, quoted in Barclay, Cities Petrus Bertanous Chapter XXVII: 218.) Pope Leo XIII declared, “We hold upon this earth the place of God Almighty.” (Source: Pope Leo XIII Encyclical Letter, June 20, 1894) The antichrist sea beast of Revelation points to the office of the papacy, the Popes of Rome, who controlled the Roman beast for 1,260 years, from 538-1798 AD. Daniel 7:25 says “And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.” The Popes of Rome spoke against Elohim and proclaimed to be God. They reigned for 1,260 years, from 538-1798 AD. during which they caused tens of millions of saints to be killed. The Pope’s title is Vicar of Christ, which in Latin is ‘Vicarius Filii Dei’, and equates numerically to the number 666

I've actually always despised this feature with a burning passion. Having grown up with central crosshairs for most of my gaming life, the transition from a central crosshair to a lowered one bugged me so bad I quit playing that game. The reason is because I am very, very attuned to having my perpipheral vision covering everything around the center of my screen, and I get the most information out of what I am looking at when I am looking in the middle of my screen. I might be shooting an enemy in the middle, but see another just off to the right and can adjust accordingly. But with lowered crosshairs, it feels like I am looking at the sky while I am trying to shoot, like my nose is runny and I am trying to stop it from dripping, but also trying to shoot my enemy. It feels so clunky, awkward and horrible in a way I can't really convey properly. There's so much dead space above the crosshair I simply can't pay attention to, and my instinct is ALWAYS to be looking at my enemy directly, with the center of the screen, often resulting in me just shooting the floor.

Long comment, but I hope you learn to love Hunt! It truly is a unique experience, unlike any other game available. Anyways, I'd argue that this is a completely intended feeling, Hunt is quite a "Hardcore" game. (Although I hate that term) If there's a one-shot-headshot mechanic, why not make it more punishing to always be aiming at head level? A central crosshair means you miss out on a bit of the right side of your screen, and a little on the bottom. A lowered crosshair means you miss out on what's directly below/in front of your characters legs/feet. (NOT his face) which is very intuitive for a game like Hunt where crack peeking is super viable and encouraged. It leads to you NEEDING to look down and make sure it's safe, and if you don't, and you step on a trap, it can actually be a big surprise and induce panic, I've always thought claymores and such in CoD were pretty useless because of the centered crosshair, everyone was forced to just plant them on corners. It's a great design choice for a game like hunt because you might be so focused on what's in front of your face, that you don't notice where you're stepping. And if you're already super immersed in the atmosphere and sound design, then it makes you use your senses in a way in which you aren't accustomed to in FPS games. And it substantially changes your playstyle and thought process. It's pretty ingenious as a design choice. Iron sights also matter more with a lower crosshair in my opinion. Not to mention how convenient a lowered crosshair is for crouching/proning in games, I always thought that the crouched aiming in CoD 2019 was a cool addition, but it looked stupid because of the centred crosshair for example. I also personally think it makes leading/shooting ranged shots easier too, but that's just my opinion. I think a lot of people treat Hunt too much like an FPS and it ends up with them hating the crosshair. A lot of gunfights are won by reaction, and through creative peeks/positioning, not just through pure headshot-aim.
