OFF GOES THE POLYURETHANE - WHY I DID THIS.

Sometimes drastic measures are required. Watch me remove the polyurethane gloss finish off my T Style guitar. Due to my tactile nature of connecting to a guitar sometimes extreme measures are required.

Good job man👍🏼 I also have an HB TE 52 and have already installed aged tuners and aged bridge from Gotoh. I also plan to remove the poly varnish, but with a hot air gun. After that everything will be sanded, pore filler, nitro varnish and then finally an aging with cracks in the varnish and so on. 👍🏼

Love the mottled neck 9:57 looks natural and unique. I don’t like finish either, whether it’s poly or nitro. You can’t beat the touch of wood. Nice job

Thank so much James, oddly not all poly or nitro finishes encourage me to remove the topcoat. For me it’s totally a tactile thing. I have many guitars with finish however some guitar I feel prevent me from actually feeling what I have in my hand or against my body. That being said, I do prefer finishes that somehow promote a tactile connection. This particular guitar I was enamored with from the first time I touched it. Now, it’s hard to keep my hands off her. @@lovingsguitar I know what you mean about finishes. I have an acoustic with a really satin thin coat. It feels lovely. I think it makes a difference when you can see the wood too. It’s all tactile. Your Condon comment cracked me up because it’s true. Plus guitars were built for innuendo.

Did you paint inside the wiring hole between the cavities with the conductive paint? It looked like you only painted the cavities. You wont get the full benefits of conductive shielding if you leave that wire route unshielded.

Thanks, Yes, I did. That part of the filming was left out because the my settings were accidentally changed on the camera. The shielding paint does its job.

It has one of the best necks I’ve ever played. Obviously that’s a personal thing - hand shape and size etc - but it’s just perfect for me. I have a heavy one - just under 10lbs but do not mind at all. It’s fantastic.

@@lovingsguitarTim Lerch who loves telecasters says the key measurements of the Nocaster is 0.97 inch neck at the headstock and 1 inch at the 12th fret. Exactly the dimensions of my te-52 neck … amazing to play.

Since they "reduced the weight" on this Telecaster model, I wanted to buy one, but then, it got sold out quickly ! I´m now waiting for Thomann to get them back in stock. It seems recently they have ALOT of Harley-Benton´s out of stock. Just goes to show you how good they are and everyone wants one ! lol

I used to hate on poly finished guitars. I used to avoid them. Until I found the best strat I ever played, it’s better than my nitro finished custom shop strat was. It’s a 2009 FSR american standard surf green matching headstock reissue. It resonates in your hands and vibrates more than any Strat I ever played. I wanted to look up some specs on it out of curiosity- and I was shocked when I found out that it was poly finished. As an added bonus it still looks brand new as the finish is tough. Don’t get me wrong I still prefer a nitro finish, I love the look, feel, and I love when it gets cracked on older guitars and throws those cool lines everywhere. But I will never again dismiss a guitar just because it’s poly finished.

Thanks for your comment. I, in no way hate on polyurethane finishes. I have many guitars I truly adore with poly finishes however this one was calling me to remove the finish. @@lovingsguitar yeah let me clarify that wasn’t a passive aggressive attack which is so common online lol. I could care less if somebody strips the finish off their guitar. Unless it’s a rare guitar or something, and then I’d give them an earful lol. But yeah man, it’s a harley benton that’s what they’re for is to be used as a tool. And feel is paramount to me too. I took some sandpaper and scotch brite pad to the back of the neck of my martin bcuz it was bubbling and getting sticky. Million times better to play now.

Thankfully Harley Benton, has given me a choice to consider doing something this drastic yet not loose any sleep over it. @@lovingsguitar no prob, I just like talking about guitars. I just recently was irked by this concept we’re talking about with people who destroy rare guitars: I have a 1 of 200 made 1991 Gibson Firebird Celebrity edition, imo one of the best looking guitars I’ve ever seen. And Gibson gave out a coa with them that promised gibson would never release another model with those features- a Firebird V but with ebony fretboard rather than rosewood, and with the super clean looking white plastics and knobs etc. Well in my Firebird owners group on facebook this dude shows us his (also 1 of 200) Firebird celebrity that he tore new holes into to modify it and turn it into a 3 pickup sort of Firebird VII. I about shit in my drink when I saw that. Me and another Celeb owner were horrified. And the guy keeps trying to come up with excuses to rationalize the destruction of a rare guitar to us lol. Kept saying he was playing jazz at the time and wanted a middle pickup. We just had to tell the guy like dude it’s your guitar that’s fine but you’re never going to explain this away and make it okay to us as owners of the same rare guitar. He just didn’t get it lol
