I liked the segment on letting the deer pass. Years ago, I had a doe within fifteen yards of my stand. I had already drawn back and was aiming. Then a yearling walked up and started nuzzling the doe. I slowly let the bow down. That's why it's called hunting and not killing! Good video!

I love your videos and get a lot of entailment from them, one thing we use with the bucket trap was a large beer bottle with a stocking or sock going half way along then greased the neck with butter or dripping and put a chunk of cheese in the top, sometimes we burnt the cheese to gain extra smell as well as hide the human contact smell form the mice or rats, he bottle had to rest on a shelf with the neck protruding out over the bucket, we had a lot of success and thought it may save you from going to trouble of making a slide, I am amazed how they can hang on with their hind legs, thanks again from Australia...

Loved the footage of the deer passing under you! I've never been a big fan of the "easy" hunt either...probably part of the reason I don't harvest many deer... That being said, I've passed on some decent looking animals just because it didn't "feel" right. I didn't NEED the meat, and sometimes just being out there is enough for me. Thank you!

Great Sunday morning video. Even for a non-hunter, it's interesting to hear in detail what it takes to score a deer, prep it, equip needed, and so on. We were gifted a Food Saver, and one year we were gifted a huge beef tenderloin. I pulled out the Food Saver. I had no experience; and thought it would be simple. I opened the plastic bag the meat was in; there was a lot of juice or liquid. So of course, I dried the meat before cutting it into steaks. Dried it again after cutting it. I made up all the bags; put in all the cuts, got ready to vac/seal. Took me forever! Why? Because the teeny amount of liquid was still preventing it to seal. The liquid got pulled out by the vacuum and onto the edge of the bag where the heating element seals, preventing a seal. I had to keep pulling the meat out; put toweling on it; leaning on it with all my body weight. I was skeptical about eating the steaks, not knowing where it was bought, and why it had so much liquid. I'd never seen that. I ended up re-gifting the steaks to the neighbors throughout the summer for the BBQ season. They said it was great. That was my experience. hah. What an experience. Have a great week! XOXOXO

Hubs isn't a hunter and we are moving into a cabin that is smaller than one floor of your cabin at 384 sq feet so may have to forego a lot of extra kitchen thingys to make room the needfuls but loved watching this. He is speaking of building a second cabin that is a bit bigger and using this one for a guest lodge. I like the idea of an outdoor kitchen but probably my biggest thought on all things wilderness is how to keep animals out. If you have food stored and go to visit grands in another city, do they tend to try to break in for your stuff and such. I know not putting garbage out is a must and thought about this a lot because it is NEW territory for us to be going into. I visualize a relaxing trip, full of memories of doey eyed grands loving my wilderness stories to come home to my canned goods broken on cabin floor and rice and beans scattered and Goldilocks and her parents sleeping on the homemade quilt I am still working on ...on my king sized fits all bears bed. Happy Thanksgiving to you and Lori and Frankie and Tildy. I am personally making meatloaf, mashed potatoes and coleslaw but I am rebellious that way. Fortunately my hubs gave the thumbs up to that idea and it is a sure thing

I am currently learning that you get what you pay for with a grinder. I have a cheap one and have processed around 10 deer with it now and I can tell it’s gonna break any second now. That bucket trap is amazing I am gonna have to give it a shot at my house, the snap traps don’t seem to always get the job done.

Tho's nice heated blinds work well to get the women in your life out in the woods for the first time. my wife is a city gal and not ever been in the woods. She got to sit and see deer and read her book for her first hunt with me next to her. Now she hunts in all kinds of stands and loves being in the woods. All she needed was that first nice hunt to see what it;s all about. Like you I am not into all of that. But what ever it takes to get peeps out in the woods I am good with that. Ps We made the tree house blind for disabled vets and kids with disability. That one stand over the past 15 years has giving me more joy than i could never have imagined. Funny how that works. We made that to help tho's who where in need and it ended up helping me more. No clue why I am sharing this. Thanks for the video. God Bless

Good stuff again Boss. Try a taller bucket. Pool chemical buckets are taller the mice wont be able to reach down to the water to get a drink. Wax the edge of the bucket or the metal. Help em slip. On generators you have a good idea placing the generator well away from the cabin. For additional noise reduction on my large generator I went to the store and bought a larger muffler. This dropped the noise quite a bit. For your 100ft extension cord. Depending on your load make sure you have one that is rated for it. I use 10/3 most of them at the big box are 12 or 14 gauge. Heavy loads will draw down on them. They can heat up. Also since it is running across the ground check it often for damage.

I also have that same type of paper dispenser. I have switched to the paper with the plastic rolled up with it. No freezer burn , I tried the food saver as well but the 4-5 deer don't last long feeding a family of 4 (the kids love it) their friends wrinkle their noses until they try it. I also get plastic sleeves that are about 30" long and probably 3-4 inches in circumference fill them with ground venison and freeze, once frozen solid it's off to the band saw to cut patties for burgers. Works great!!

Good vid Boss, wish I had your meat grinder. I have a mouse trap like yours, but instead of slapping peanut butter on the spinner I use an empty small peanut butter plastic jar. I drill a hole in the center of the bottom and top slide the wire through and install it on the bucket like you do. I make sure there is some peanut butter residue in the jar, plus drill some small holes into the jar to let the smell of it out. The mice have to jump onto the jar, it spins, down they go. No mess no fuss. My trap sits outside near my back door. Lately I don't even have to dump out the dead mice, a local weasel or martin has been fetching the mice out of the bucket for their lunch. Good hunting to you.

Hi Boss, I have just one suggestion about your mouse bucket. When I was a kid, my dad would tie a string (or a piece of wire) tightly across the top of a bucket (galvanized steel back then) after stringing a beer can (LOL) on it. He would smear peanut butter on it and put it in the shed with a ramp up to the can. When the mouse crawled up the ramp he would smell the penut butter and try to get on the can which promptly rolled over plunging the mouse into the water below. It worked great!!
@thebossoftheswamp6 жыл бұрын
I showed that setup a year or so ago but found the bucket works better without the can. I'm just having fun with all this right now. Update to follow.
