My dad passed when I was 23. The main thing I asked for was his tools (no one else was going to use them). He built and did a lot of things with them and now I build and do a lot of things with them. I know the feeling you’re talking about. Just changed the oil on my sisters car today and used his old oil filter wrench. Used one of his ratchet sets too since it was closer by.

Nice cast iron collection and I do love hearing stories behind things. Lee is 53 (due to his appearance and energy levels people who don't know his age think he's in his twenties) and our older son Daniel is ten years old. Our younger son Thomas would have been six years old if he hadn't died of SIDS seven years ago. I'm 39 and will likely look older sooner since my dark brown hair is starting to gray (I have no plans to color it) and Lee's blond hair is still all blond.

Purchased my first cast iron skillet pan - much like a crepe pan, with virtually no sides. Love to cook with it, love that I can save power by switching the stove off, sooner and best of all I love that I don't have to wash it. I have a scraper to remove any solids off with, and clean it with a paper towel. Then it gets a thin film of oil, wiped on, When on water rations, this is such a great cooking item to have.

I have a Griswold Dutch oven exactly the same as yours. I have used it for about 50 years and got it from my Grandmother who I expect also used it for about 50 years. Sure wish I knew what she had prepared in it for her family. It has prepared many, many roasts and other one pot meals for me any my family. Nothing works better! My husband searched KZbin several months ago for what folks do to catch mice and ran across the bucket idea. I refuse to set traps because they cause me too much anxiety. So the bucket has been great. I can easily set it up. We live by a river in Ohio and in the woods so you are going to get mice. Since putting the bucket in use I have learned never is there just one mouse in your house. Where there is one there are at least 5. We live in a small cottage so when they get in the kitchen we can hear the critters. I put out the bucket and got three just a couple of nights ago. We live in an old house so they find their way in, but the bucket has done the best job.

Excellent collection of cast iron! I can relate to your family heirloom. The other day I came into possession of one myself. The cast iron pan of my grandfather’s I am now the proud owner of. Many meals of heavy German turkey dressing has been made in it over decades. It, originally, was my great grandmothers and was made around 1920 (NATIONAL - a Wagner model). In addition, a round griddle was also found that my family was unaware of which was also handed down to me. Come to find out, it has a gate mark on the bottom (9P marked). Having a gate mark I guess means it’s pre-1890. Which means it’s been in my family from even my great-great grandparents. I’m beyond happy to have these and fully understand how yours mean so much to you.

My nephew bought this lot of land beside his Moms house that had a barn on it. His Mom called us and said he was wanting to get it all cleaned out and to come look to see if there was anything in it that we wanted. We hauled a truck load from it. Lots of fencing a pitch fork with a handle and one without. 3 cast iron skillet that are VERY neat! I don't recall the name of them right off but love the curved handle of them. Man they were a wreck and I restored them to. LOVE those skillets! Got an old old oscillating fan and haven't plugged it in to see IF it works or not. Hey Boss Man, when are you going to update the ending footage. I think Tildie might be getting a little upset being left out. This past summer, I was talking with my daughter. We were outside, I see a squirrel climbing up the side of the neighbors house. It's legs were spread as wide as they can. The squirrel was using it's paws to, basically, walk up the side of the house. It was fun watching it do that.I never saw a squirrel do that before.

I used my 6" pan for pot pies. The crust was fabulous! That size makes enough for two people (unless you are extra hungry!). So easy to do; I used a 40-year old Betty Crocker recipe which is super simple. Those frozen box pot pies don't hold a candle to homemade. Some of my pans are 60 years old. Thank you too for bringing peace to my house. I put a bucket mousetrap under a part of the house that I suspected the mice were invading and I have taken care of about 20 mice this fall that otherwise would like to hang out in my house. Morning Boss! The Griswold deep fat fryer is from the 1950's and is worth around $100, if you have the cover for it, that alone is worth a couple hundred more. The #4 Griswold (1909 -1929) with the slant logo, is also a $100 bill. You are correct on the 3-notch skillets, they are Lodge. Lodge also made a single notch and no notch. The skillet you said is a BSR does look like a BSR to me but not because of the heat ring as others also made skillets with a inset heat ring. BSR'ss are typically fairly heavy and have smaller pour spouts but the easiest way to tell is that they will have a very pronounced ridge / angle on the underside of the handle running length wise. Good collection, they look to be cared for well. Merry Christmas.
