The reason those guys made negative comments about your lifestyle was because they were envious of you. Your living the dream they wished they had, but weren't smart enough to achieve. More people need to hear things like this. My lifestyle and life of acccumulating wealth is much like yours. I am in my mid 50s and haven't worked full time since my late 20s. I find that some people that comment on these channels seem to have a problem with people making and/or having money or success. Makes sense, setting goals to live the life you want and then working toward that would bring satisfaction as you progress. Thank you for this video! I love hearing your story. I was born and raised and currently live in southwest Florida but my Dad is from upstate New York and I have spent a considerable amount of time in the Adirondack Mountains hiking and exploring while visiting with family. I fell in love with the Adirondacks as a child because of the magic of its natural beauty, specifically being able to see the stars, the clean air and water, having camp fires and escaping the hustle and materialistic lifestyle experienced here in Florida on a daily basis. The land here in Florida is also extremely expensive, the taxes are high and the building codes very restrictive so even if I wanted to stay I'd never be able to afford anything reasonable without a large mortgage and substantial predictable income which is something I've wanted to avoid at all costs. Even renting in this area is unreachable as my friends pay upwards of $1300 a month for two bedroom apartments. My uncle just recently offered to sell me 10 acres in upstate NY inside the Adirondack park for a reasonable amount of money which I have in savings! So I believe I may finally have a start to my dream of someday living a lifestyle similar to yours.

how cool!!! yes, totally go for it! We actually lived in FL for many years and owned our house in Ft. Lauderdale. We experienced the same thing, $2300+/yr in taxes for our .25acre plot & house, VERY limited in what we could build or create there due to city code, restrictions, and permits. We also just didn't love the vibes, we didn't have many people who were genuinely interested in getting back to the land near by us, so we felt very alone in our dreams. Recently, we sold our house in FL and bought some acreage in W.North Carolina and are finally living our dreams of homesteading and could not be happier! We have fresh spring water from our land gravity fed into our little cabin, our power bill is $35/mo, taxes are like $400/yr, we have fires every night with wood we harvested & split on our land, and never hear a single sound from the city or neighbors, although we have a resupply town just 15 min away and 3 major cities within 2 hours each direction. Your dream of getting away from the hustle and bustle of S.FL is totally worth going after. You can do it, and we completely believe in you! :) Kate & Rafi Masca www.HomesteadForEveryone.com

You were definitely in the wrong part of Florida! Come inland and go north a bit to reach Polk County, which is pretty much smack in the center of the state. Almost everything here is dirt cheap, including the dirt itself. You just have to know when to buy. If you try to buy when the snowbirds are all deciding that they'd rather just stay, you'll get taken. Once that season ends? It's a gold mine of opportunities. The only catch is that you still need to stay out of the cities to avoid hassles, but that's easy enough in this area. Building codes are quite reasonable in unincorporated Polk, assuming you're not trying to live in a shed with no plumbing or something far out like that. As a bonus, tropical storms and hurricanes become a lot weaker by the time they get here. The coasts, as you know, get totally blasted with every storm, even the ones that are nothing but a lot of rain by the time they get inland.

I can appreciate what you're saying but it's good to be open minded. When I worked as a nuisance wildlife control officer and had to remove problem animals from farms and such, it was illegal to transport and relocate wildlife. It makes more sense to utilize the animal rather than toss it in a dumpster etc. The law required the animal were put down.

J.C. You have a lot of friends and admirers out here, so let the bad roll off your back. There are a lot of folks who are miserable and can't stand a positive message you always try to deliver. I for one appreciate all you share and am a huge fan. To spend a day working beside you would be an honor. Keep doing what you do. Your inspiration reaches farther than you know!

Well if you're ever in the area, I'll gladly put you to work haha. No worries on the bad comments. I just delete them. I made this video for the good folks rather than a response to the naysayers. Cheers :-)

Hi Boss, agreed. The limit to ones success is their ambition. Live smart and pay once. First time viewer and of course I subbed. You didn't have to share your story but you did. Quite a few folks out there simply don't get it due to the "buy now, pay later" programming everyone receives this day and age. What some of us view as simple logic, others cannot grasp due to the instant gratification and competition constantly inundating our living rooms through the television and school system. Anyway, thanks for sharing!

It's no one's business where your money comes from. You make video's of your daily life and how you do things. Most people are just jealous and too lazy to make an effort to do the same. I like watching you and your companion dog going to the homestead and chilling out. It's no one's business where your money comes from.

I didn't make the video to explain anything to anyone, but rather to show the folks that are interested in this lifestyle that there's more than one way to earn a living. An independent lifestyle is hard to have when you rely on only one source of income. Cheers :-)

Great story, hard work and goals. By the way, I love your chair @ approx 12:00 minutes. I always knew the "Alaskan Freighter" backpack made a nice back rest in the woods, heck even a good seat in wet weather, but a chair?! This is why I watch, you see things that others miss. You have vision! Keep up the good work.

Hey Boss, That was a lot of great advice for young people and old. But I don't think you need to explain anything to anyone. People need to realize that they are responsible for the choices that they make. And for every choice you make there is a recource because of it. The world of instant gratitude is killing the american dream. The problem is we don't teach that any more. I'm getting ready to go back out to camp to hunt the last day of Pa deer. Supposed to be fresh snow on the ground, wish me luck. God Bless
