Q: How do you have internet at your cabins? A: I have cell service at both cabins but it is spotty due to foliage and cloud cover. I can access the internet from my cabins but have to drive to a local wifi location to upload videos.
Q: How old is Frankie? A: Frankie will be 10 in April of 2018
Q: What video editing software do I use? A: Presently, all I use is Windows Live Movie maker but I’m considering trying imovie, Adobe Elements or SONY VEGAS PRO.
Q: How do you get your water? Did you dig a well? A: Presently, I haul water to the NY cabin but at the NH cabin, I drop a kettle into an old well that was dug by hand by the settlers in the 1700’s.
Q:What is your favorite brand of cast iron cookware? A: I prefer using vintage cast iron. My favorites are BSR and Griswold. If I had to buy new I would buy a Lodge Brand. I plan to purchase this dutch oven in the future:
Q: What do you use for refrigeration? A: We have a small gas refrigerator that we salvaged from an old Shasta camper and a custom icebox that I built into the cabin wall. We make ice on site with a propane freezer.

Q: What do you use for cooking and heating? A: We use a Kitchen Queen 380 for cooking and heating during the winter months but we also have an antique gas stove in the cabin for when we don't need the heat from the KQ.

More people need to hear things like this. My lifestyle and life of acccumulating wealth is much like yours. I am in my mid 50s and haven't worked full time since my late 20s. I'm currently mentoring a couple young people in trimming expenses and being self reliant. It's a lot of fun watching them learn to get rich slowly.

Your methods aren't for everyone. I discussed your snowball plan with my wife. We were looking for expenditures we could do without. I suggested she could cut back on makeup purchases and she suggested I could cut back on beer purchases. She argued the makeup was to make herself look more attractive to me. Thanks for sharing your story. I think that there are many people out there that dream of the lifestyle that you have, but just don't take that step and make the necessary changes in their hectic life to make it happen. Thank you for this video! I love hearing your story. I was born and raised and currently live in southwest Florida but my Dad is from upstate New York and I have spent a considerable amount of time in the Adirondack Mountains hiking and exploring while visiting with family. I fell in love with the Adirondacks as a child because of the magic of its natural beauty, specifically being able to see the stars, the clean air and water, having camp fires and escaping the hustle and materialistic lifestyle experienced here in Florida on a daily basis. The land here in Florida is also extremely expensive, the taxes are high and the building codes very restrictive so even if I wanted to stay I'd never be able to afford anything reasonable without a large mortgage and substantial predictable income which is something I've wanted to avoid at all costs. Even renting in this area is unreachable as my friends pay upwards of $1300 a month for two bedroom apartments. My uncle just recently offered to sell me 10 acres in upstate NY inside the Adirondack park for a reasonable amount of money which I have in savings! So I believe I may finally have a start to my dream of someday living a lifestyle similar to yours.

how cool!!! yes, totally go for it! We actually lived in FL for many years and owned our house in Ft. Lauderdale. We experienced the same thing, $2300+/yr in taxes for our .25acre plot & house, VERY limited in what we could build or create there due to city code, restrictions, and permits. We also just didn't love the vibes, we didn't have many people who were genuinely interested in getting back to the land near by us, so we felt very alone in our dreams. Recently, we sold our house in FL and bought some acreage in W.North Carolina and are finally living our dreams of homesteading and could not be happier! We have fresh spring water from our land gravity fed into our little cabin, our power bill is $35/mo, taxes are like $400/yr, we have fires every night with wood we harvested & split on our land, and never hear a single sound from the city or neighbors, although we have a resupply town just 15 min away and 3 major cities within 2 hours each direction. You were definitely in the wrong part of Florida! Come inland and go north a bit to reach Polk County, which is pretty much smack in the center of the state. Almost everything here is dirt cheap, including the dirt itself. You just have to know when to buy. If you try to buy when the snowbirds are all deciding that they'd rather just stay, you'll get taken. Once that season ends? It's a gold mine of opportunities. The only catch is that you still need to stay out of the cities to avoid hassles, but that's easy enough in this area. Building codes are quite reasonable in unincorporated Polk, assuming you're not trying to live in a shed with no plumbing or something far out like that. As a bonus, tropical storms and hurricanes become a lot weaker by the time they get here. The coasts, as you know, get totally blasted with every storm, even the ones that are nothing but a lot of rain by the time they get inland.

My dad had 3 Jobs to pay for his 8 children ! We were happy, went to church and school. Holidays were special, we all grew up pretty smart. And not one of us went to the pokey ! Mom was awesome. The things she did are mind boggling today. She was a super woman ! She had 8 children, cooked, cleaned, nursed, loved and nurtured us while Dad worked his butt off ! I look at their pictures today and pray they are in heaven with not a care or worry ! Smiling down on us from above ! Amen !

the Boss......whats wrong with people? Personally I think there jealous because they see someone that has fulfilled there dreams by hard work and smart thinking. I've communicated with you before, live down state from you and worked shows all over up-state NY and New England as a wood worker/picture framer. People have NO idea how much work there is involved it that. They just see you taking in the money at shows. And if they want to really see some hard work get out on a trap line when the sun comes up.....every single day during the season. Run a one man saw mill. Friend, you earned and deserve every cent you have. Good on you.

Thanks for the video. My uncle once told me that there are three types of people: 1) those who borrow for what they want; they are called fools, 2) those that save for what they want; they are called "not too bright" and 3) those that know what they really want, earn the money and pay cash with some left over for emergencies.I almost fit into the third category; when I was 46 I had made enough money to retire. My wife and I looked at houses and found that we could buy one with the equity in our house, but four months later I had retired and was bored to death. So like you I moved, took a job and paid for my daughters college, a clean used car for each and a nice wedding for each. Again I retired for about six months, got bored and went back to work and made a very good income which I put aside. My oldest daughter became terminally ill and wiped out ALL my savings which was OK, children are priceless. But she was not my dependent -- too old, not living with us etc. So someone called me one day if I wanted a job. Sure, for a few months (it became 9 years) it was in the health care industry and the real value was understanding her illness from the docs and having their support when I had to sign DNR certificates. Well, she recovered, remarried and had a baby.I finally retired for the third or fourth time got cancer twice; I'm cured but have some scars to show for it. In my mid seventies I have time for the grand kids, reading and my gardening along with helping some people in their business endeavors. No income but our life is very simple and always has been.To your viewers I suggest a book that may no longer be in print: "The Millionaire Next Door". The message is simple: live your life, not the life others expect you to live.

right on the money..no pun intended..lol...you are exactly right on how people make assumptions and have their own opinions on things when in fact they don't understand and will not accept the fact not everyone is wasteful. we LIVE by being simple and not wasting anything...you should be very proud you have lived your dreams and made them a reality for yourself..not many in this world can say they have lived their dreams, meanwhile they want to down people who have..you have a great outlook and great advice..many blessings to you

we love your response and completely agree!! society as a whole is very wasteful these days, and it's part of the standard education that teaches kids not to be aware of these things. So naturally as adults, the world seems very unmanageable & dreams unattainable, but that doesn't have to be our realities. We loved the perspective that he spoke from in this video because it really does take being mindful of reducing the costs of living, doing work that's fulfilling & diversified, and choosing to think, speak, & take action in the direction of your dreams that creates opportunities and resources that help you create that dream. We know it from experience too, we used to be the moaners & complainers that never understood why others seemed to have what they dreamt of but we didn't, and found excuses & made assumptions that were just BS. We know better now, and have fun learning new life lessons every single day from our homestead, which is our dream come true. :) - Kate & Rafi Masca

I have been trying to learn and save money for 10 years for a small homestead and I have it all planned. have been trying to learn skills I need and acquire tools for the trade that i need. all my life I've wanted to live in a small log cabin and live simple just haven't known how to do it until I got internet. It's hard to live a dream when your husband has different ideas and just thinks your stupid and crazy.

Great video for sure!! We decided to become debt free 5 years ago. Everything changed for us with debt freedom. We then worked and saved for 4 years and now live a life like no one else so we can give like no one else!

I was told to read The Richest Man In Babylon, when I was 17. Following a few simple rules laid out in the book for managing my money has made all the difference. I buy a copy of the book for anyone in my family or a friends families that graduate high school or college. Choosing to be happy every day will make you the wealthiest man or woman in the world.
