As an old guy I'd like to offer some advice. The lock on a door on a place deep back in the woods normally only results in a damaged door and does little to nothing to stop thieves. With nobody around to see or hear them they have no issues breaking stuff. Some signs about Beware of Dog here and there might be helpful as a deterrent. If you plan on running your driveway back further I would like to suggest a base layer of river rock first and give it a couple years use to push into the soil before adding a top layer of crush or chat. It will hold firm and save money normally since most places river rock is cheaper. Love the place you got there and your creating with what you have on the place ( wood logs and poles ) for fencing, gates and such. Our places zi have done since 1997 all have had variations of Jenkins "Humanure Handbook" composting toilets and we love them. Missouri and eastern Oklahoma are clay and rock for the most part so creating soil is a must. It was nice to see you doing the same. Never need a plumber, no plunging, no water everywhere it's just simple and works. You mentioned not using a gas mower, you using electric? We switched to almost entirely all Greenworks now. We started with their corded stuff for most of our needs in around 2010 but kept gas for our rider and things to far for a cord. Now in 2021 we swapped all over to their 60v system for our Riding mower, string trimmer, chainsaw, pole saw, pole trimmer, leaf blower, pressure washer, shop vac, push mower, and work lights. Never need to run to town for gas, no carbs getting messed up from sitting over winter and the batteries charge up quick. Hope to see more updates.

@spudrubble all good advice thank you! I want the lock for when I'm sleeping there with the family. I might keep it unlocked per your advice when I'm not there. River rock is a good idea. I'll try it... yes I use v20 craftsman electric mower and Weed Wacker. It works great! Is the 60 mower strong enough to pull loads? Was wondering about that. That's for the tips!

Studies on dogs as deterrents exist and they indeed are better than locks. People are scared of violence and alarms like dog provide, not so much worried about having to take their time.

Big property what state is this and how much was it

Ohio, 5 acres. I bought it fivish years ago And I've been working on it on and off ever since.. I don't remember how much but I got a deal on it. Because the ground wasn't great for a septic system, so the people who wanted to build a house on it. Decided it wasn't worth it.. I looked at a lot of properties, but most of them were not secluded. This one being by a farm was secluded..
