Homestead is coming right along. Chickens are a good investment. Thanks for the update.

Get a 1x1 board for them to roost on; chickens prefer square surfaces, and it will help save their feet in the cold.

Looks like you have made a lot of progress. You have demonstrated incredible perseverance since you were chopping trees fallen in your trail and Ranger was a pup. Keep it up!

Pretty nest in the hillside! Genuine people not only find a path to a less intricate life but also share it and inspire others ... Thanks for this priceless wakeup call. Stay safe and all the best OGW.

Wow man the homestead is looking great, you've obviously been busy, I really like the L shape of the cabin with the covered porch.
@johndoe-lr9if Жыл бұрын
I used to have a dog that looked just like Ranger, very very smart dog he was. Liked: the cabin addon, the 'shoop' was it (the home for chickens), expanding dictionary of custom OGW words, drone views. Was thinking you may need a tramway up that hillside (or bulldozer eventually), perhaps pack mule? Oh the wife is blabbing about (just got a look) wanting to see a "walkthrough" of the crib.

Love it! Epic update OGW, well worth the wait. The extension on the cabin looks grand as well. Sweet little set up you’ve created in your hillside paradise

I haven't had great luck with the chicken wire but small hardware wire and boards worked pretty good. I think the place looks great!

WHAT A VIEW !!! I don't know if you have ever said or don't want to say but what is the general area of the world you are in ... Sometimes I think the Rockies and sometimes I think no ... Thanks for the video and hope for more to follow ... God bless my friend ...

You're making things nice 💖 Is best to get proper shampoo, hand or dish soap is harsh for hair.

Thanks. Agreed, I do use actual body soap and shampoo... that was me just being a little goofy. All the best to you.

The hens may sleep inside the boxes to stay warmer at night. Do they have solar hot pads that you could put underside of the nesting boxes to encourage them to lay eggs there and to help keep eggs from freezing. Someone in Canada did that and worked great and chickens kept laying even in winter.
@offgridwarrior Жыл бұрын
Hi Kay. No hot pads... The girls seem to be doing OK, some breeds are better than others when it comes to cold weather. In my experience as long as you provide them with a dry environment and block cold winds most chickens do fine up here in Winter. Frozen eggs thaw and when you boil them they taste like any other egg in summer. The girls perch at night, tuck their heads under wings and sit down covering feet. So far so good... Coldest temp has been 12deg so far. Thanks for the comment. Stay well.

Shoot the bear? Then you have some good eating for a while to replace the noodles???

Good point! Honesty I don't want to shoot a bear on first visit... If it comes back and becomes a danger/nuisance I can escalate if necessary.

Weasel will go threw the chicken wire! I would suggest getting some 3/4 square wire build a wooden frame around the cow panels and fasten the square wire to the wooden frame then sand wage wooden lats to it. bear won't go threw it nor a weasel. But nothing is 100 percent effective after all your in the wilderness! For your first defence I would suggest a electric battery operated fence. You could have it on a car battery and charge it with a solar panel. Happy Grizzly Adams~ing it! Instead of backpacking things up the Mountain go pick up a old snow blower take off the trough and weld on a hitch get a small two wheel cart fasten it to your snowblower power drive and you have a wheel barrel powered cart. Most cases you could find it for free or very cheap. and it would carry up your supplies. Kind o like this! kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpvWeX2Fea-ha5o Your not getting any younger! buddy uses a tiller but this is a better option as! Snow blower would be a better option as you don't have to do a whole bunch of modifications and you have different speeds and a reverse. all you have to do is a hitch to hook the cart on! I would build it like this where the snow blower is on the back and the wagon is on the front and it pivots like this. Don't over complicate it! kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6akcqx9hLtoldE
