It would be nice if RV companies just started putting enough solar to run fans (heater fan included), lights, refrigerator and a few laptops as a standard item. They could get rid of a lot of the bling like Christmas lights on the awning, radio with indoor/outdoor speakers, and fancy blue lighting in the trailer. Make those options and put that savings into standard energy to make overall cost more reasonable.

Good point but remember, too,that a lot of RVs live out their days in RV parks. But I’m with you - I would love to see RVs with no outdoor speakers or awning lights and such, or make those things an option.

Perfect for national parks such as Frisco Campground at the Outer Banks where you can run your generator until 10PM. Often it is very warm all night in the Outer Banks. I could imagine cooling down the rig with the generator after a day at the beach and showers, until 2200, shut down the genny, and run the rest of the night on the max package (and maybe another battery or two).

On that Go Power battery monitor, the number displayed in the far bottom right corner at 7:46 is the current power usage in watts, not remaining time in weeks. It's just math from the other two numbers on the bottom row: 13.3 volts times 2.34 amps equals 31.1 watts. The number just *above* that is remaining time at the current draw - 58 hours and 45 minutes (137Ah/2.34A=58.5 hours and toss in a bit of rounding error), or about two and a half days.

From my calculations the tongue weight with max solar and full bottle and a little cargo is probably over 300lbs maybe 400lbs over the dry tongue weight of 570 to 650 depending of the models. So i think tongue weight could be around 1000 to 1200 lbs if only few gallon of water are added only for the driving trip. Would be interesting to have the full tongue weight with real loading conditions. Of course it is impossible to fill the water tank which would be alone 456 lbs of water. Would be interesting to know what truck drive this rv correctly. I think a f150 would be fine with the 171 but i see much more a f250 for the 201 quad wheel.

price is reasonable: "free factory labour" for list price of aftermarket kit. Probably should be standard/inventory at least. Battery location is very smart. More in good spots too. The CCC is modest but adequate for base price. There should be an ultra solar package that if need be adds a 2nd mppt controller, and serializes each side of the center vent on 2 parallel strings. Ember hitch weights, already high, will noticeably increase and payload capacity decrease with their max solar package. I have encouraged Ember to consider locating lithium batteries, inverter, charger etc. further towards the inside rear of the RV to reduce hitch weight and use high strength military grade aluminum frame to significantly reduce trailer weight which increases load capacity and lowers trailer weight thus the shorter non slide out Ember trailers can be towable by 5000 lb capable vehicles, the largest off-road segment here in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Until then, the Rockwood Geo Pro, such as 19FD floor plan, is the best option for a max solar package scenario and cautious off-road scenario. I have suggested to Rockwood to please offer the next generation of Geo Pro’s with a new true off road independent suspension system, composite floor, inside rear location for lithium batteries, enclosed and protected composite underbelly, European dual pane windows, all Military grade aluminum frame, electric disc brakes, etc. Time will tell.

I hope either Embers or RV dealers provide the option of Lithionic batteries. While Battleborn batteries are more popular, therefore better from the business point of view, the more informed customers will prefer Lithionics. Lithionics are UL listed and 3 times the power . Very important, with less space in a normal size travel trailer, 2 Lithionics will take less room than 4 Battleborns and gain 230AH more (630Amp hours vs 400AH) Unfortunately prices are out of control. He spends winter's between Arizona, Texas or Florida tries not to use campgrounds - National Forests, BLM & Beach areas. I can see how the Max package is a good start for someone who loves to explore.

I know the mastervolt inverter is 22lbs and each battery is 25lbs so 122lbs for the full package plus i would say 30lbs wiring then the additional 40lbs to fill the two propane LP bottle, it probably add 200lbs plus the weight of the options maybe 100lbs i would say we must add 300lbs to the dry tongue weight which is already over 570 to 650 depending of the modèles. I mean the truck must have over 1300 lbs tongue weight to allow additional tongue equalizer and cargo and a small amount of water for the trip before to fill it fully when on the camp. Probably a f150 max tow package would do it right for the ember 171 and maybe i would take a f250 v8 for the ember 201 quad wheel. Am i right?

My understanding and please correct me if I'm wrong. You can't take a non max solar packaged Ember and retro / upgrade it after the fact to a max solar package. So one would need to purchase / order an Ember with the max solar package from the start to then be able to upgrade the "mini max" to the "mega max" package?
@JoshtheRVNerd3 жыл бұрын
Upfits are always possible but it's certainly a vastly more involved process and their warranty wouldn't cover work they didn't do You could theoretically take any RV and add a monster solar package to it. It's a matter of the $$'s and effort you're willing to invest to accomplish the goal

One of the things about lithium, storage at high ambient temperatures at 100% charge degrades their capacity permanently. That’s why they are in the insulated interior. It hits 117 in the shade here, and I’d hate to guess what the temp inside an uninsulated black box baking in the sun would be, but it would kill the useful life of even the best lithium battery.

The batteries have a heating unit so in theory they'll keep themselves warm BUT... that also consumes juice. If cold-storing, then I do think it's best to pull the battery. Thats a little tricky since they're really kind of buried in there but it's the most logical solution
@vagandoeverywhere3 жыл бұрын
Binford! Isn't water and propane included in some of the weight measurements? Don't know where I read that. Base max solar! "You can also add some bass to your base and add more juice!" It seems like a pretty stout setup. I wonder if adding a 12v ac would help the batteries last longer.
@johnross63143 жыл бұрын
Agree on 12V “RV” heat pump. However, unlike the mini splits (which are not really designed for RV footprint, BUT their tech should/and will be made for RV foot print) the hybrid legacy design of the 12V ceiling RV systems have much lower BTUs (semi comparable price). Some as low as 2000 BTU. However, they are very efficient. Up to 80% less total running time power required. Also newer rugged higher output solar panels we use that will fit in this rod will garner 24% or more effective watts per panel (higher in less than ideal conditions) then being used on this system. Minimum extra cost. Plus add street priced ground based RV portable solar panel system to this MPPT/inverter system, huge growth in net solar power delivery that bring enough to the system for sustainable 24/7 off grid power in most conditions. With the right RV engineer, prosumers like you, a balance of manageable costs, with total new industry ecosystem disruptive design can be had. Over time, will get much better. If you look at the future, most of the legacy systems and convenience producers for RVs will be out of business . They will think they can “react” to the new competitive disruptive tech. They will be wrong. End of on the ash heap of history. Josh, if you are reading this, invite me/my team up (we are close by)to your place for innovative round table. Let’s get ahead of the industry, and serve those waiting advanced disruptive tech seeking consumers. This will be a National Bish play. @beenieweenie19863 жыл бұрын
For the battery ratings alot of it is dependent on the discharge condition. Most batteries are rated based on how much power they supply on a 8-10 hour discharge. Most batteries you can look up their discharge curves from the manufacturer and see how long they will last at a given load which you can just add up all the stuff you are running and figure out how much you need. FOr SOlar panels a good rule of thumb is you will get about 4 hours of full power charge out of them per day. Obviously you will get more in the desert and less in a forest, but you can look up expected sunlight from a farmers almanac most places

add the other 2 batteries, portable solar panels, and standard generator.... or could even buy another solar generator like jackery, plug the 110 shore power option in to that. 4 more batteries in cargo lol. now just need a permanent water supply, maybe rain collection strait into tank hehe. great trailer line, love these..... i would be able to run a full out 2000 watt gaming system with quad monitors covering the wall while running the air conditioner, cookies in the oven while heating up last nights pizza in the microwave, coffee brewing for my bailys and coffee to have with cookies later, as my buddy recharges his trailer power system for the night off of my trailer. ... that is the power system we need to have put in..... might be easier to just install a small submarine class nuclear reactor, not sure.... could always find out. as long as dont have to put batteries in the bed or the beer fridge should be ok.... oh and probably should not put a battery bank in the shower either.... but i love seeing more power on trailers and rv...this is excellent power system as it is.....cant do much better in this size unit these days at all, would like to see no shore power or generator required except for most extreme cloud cover at all. where even 25% charge is good enough to stay there a week or more, rain 4 days strait and cold outside, run heat and stay in watching tv playing electonics making cookies, cooking dinner, no problem. would not need on board generators at all, since any generator can plug in to shore power jacks anyway at moochdock level, for those who really need one after all that, some have 30 or even 50 amp output also without adapters or controllers required...... could you imagine a 5th wheel built to this kind of off road ability and durability this brand is for those monster 6 wheel drive hemi powered beasts?.. a toy hauler that can take your toys up the trail on its own, go passing a jeep towing a 5th wheel lol.
