I love your videos - especially as you don't talk all the time. The clarity was good and the sense of peacefulness of the woods quite evident. After last year's early winter you must be shaking your tail feathers to get stuff completed in case the snows come in ahead of time again. I've been watching and watching and I see beautiful Cali having fun. Just now, I've realized how much of a big part she is in your building and whole life. She's always with you helping. She gives you love and smiles. She looks at you with eyes of affection. She looks out for you and keeps loneliness away. She makes your cabin a home. I always wonder what it is about these videos that I find so appealing? Maybe it's because as a kid we would often visit my grandmother who lived in a secluded farmhouse and there would be no electricity. Running water came from the nearby dam and everyday was an adventure in exploring. At any rate, I'm enjoying the videos Shawn and please keep them coming.

Um.....she lay down on the moss because she wanted his attention. When a dog is determined they will get in the middle of your project. Such as lying down on your tools or worse, picking them up and carrying them away! When they see you hunting for the tool for sometime they pick it up and carry it back to you and expect to be praised, petted, and played with! I've had a few dogs that did that. The little darlings!

I'm still catching up on this build, but to see the end result, to this point, is wonderful. Shawn, you really are an inspiration to the younger generation who WILL have to learn to live OFF GRID, JUST TO SURVIVE. Hard work never really killed anyone and it goes a long way to show what ONE MAN can do, alone, when driven by the love of a wonderful Lady, like your wife is! Clarity of the picture was quite a bit better. Those were some nice looking tomatoes. I like a lot of tomato on my sandwiches too. I am 65 years old and I learned how to install a living roof. Who said that you can't teach an old dog new tricks? Middle of September and the leaves on the maples are already changing colors. Here in Missouri the maples start changing in mid October. I love the fall, but it doesn't last long enough. Well, good show today. Stay safe. Vaughn

Gayle Messer,I myself am from missouri down Rolla way. Here its still in the 70 degree range in october! I live on 243 acres and its a full time job to keep up with it! At 66 its hard to do! I do not know how to install a living roof , but it looks nice!

You aren’t that old...but it is always great to learn new things. I only live on 5 acres in Canada, but enjoy puttering with some home made projects and self reliance pursuits. Western , British Columbia has started to see a few leaves turning and it has just recently turned to feel a little like fall. Better get the rest of the garden picked soon.

I love that duck in veggie stew. I fry beef liver( in flour) with onion in butter and than put it in pan with celery, leek, carrots, potato (everything diced) and cook till veggies are soft. Salt and pepper goes last because liver could get tough. Your favorite season is just around the corner- no bugs ! Now the nature is making life easier and fulfilling the senses with aesthetics.

He is incredible. He has built a veritable village with creature comforts. Everything he lays his hands on is carefully cut and constructed. I've seen countless cabins built by a loner, but none comes close to his residence. Beautiful. His attention to detail is marvelous. His high fat diet is necessary for his active, wilderness life! Exquisite workmanship is exhibited throughout ... The standard wilderness cabin built by one man doesn't come close to what he had produced. Of course he had two + years... Usually in winter when the temp drops below zero, a mountain man's hut/cabin is a balmy 40 F. Not his! He insulates and all the doors actually fit tightly. What a difference that makes...

Tedious work that. Fall is approaching fast, sound of the wind and color changes. Also, watched Cali's 2nd birthday episode again: just makes you want to hug her tightly and slow down time.
