This inverter and battery combination is so efficient that even on cloudy days my 7kW solar array fills my batteries by afternoon! Our entire, fully modern house, runs off grid because we balance our loads to maximize efficiency between day and night, clear and cloudy. With the efficiency of this system system, we even run conventional A/C.

It's so refreshing to see someone use an electrical gutter rather than 50 pieces of flex conduit running all over left and right. This is how you do a proper and clean installation! Great job.

@@goingoffgridatgreenshireho435 you're welcome! I have five more years to go before I can retire and I'm in technical support now and I'm just so disappointed in the lack of training with electricians and solar contractors these days. It's super hard to keep my chin up and smile and be enthusiastic.

I know all about being disappointed by substandard personnel and training. Just do the right thing for the right reason and watch over your corner of the world. You can't do more than that. Those 5 years are gonna fly by then you can close your circle of responsibility, take a step back and relax a little. Chin up, power through, there's still good men out there.

You are a natural on YT, nice video. Sounds like you are a fan of the Eg4. I am looking at the simpliphi batteries. Solark said they are one of the recommended batteries that play nice with the solark. I am curious if that is that important. Those batteries are a little more than the eg4. If you have an opinion curious on that.
@goingoffgridatgreenshireho435
@goingoffgridatgreenshireho435 4 ай бұрын
Simpliphi was actually my first choice 3 years ago. They are excellent batteries but the Sol-Ark pairs very well with EG4 as well. The rack system of EG4 with the bus bars makes for a very clean system that distributes current extremely well. It was a pain staking, gut wrenching decision process...my poor wife!! EG4 just seemed to be a good fit for me and I wanted the Chargeverter which I knew would pair well with their batteries. Free shipping and the sale Signature Solar was promoting was the final straw. Good luck sir, but either way, you win!

EG4 batteries are not on Sol-Ark’s compatibility list. Consequently, you do not get a UL9540 listing or 9540A. The AHJ, if you permit the installation, will not approve your install. Your insurance company may have an issue also!
@goingoffgridatgreenshireho435
@goingoffgridatgreenshireho435 Ай бұрын
Thank you for the info....this is the kind of thing, that if not pointed out, could become a problem for some people. In speaking to Sol-Ark Tech, they advise that since EG4 batteries are UL9540 listed, the combination should not be an issue. Sol-Ark said the reason EG4 is not on their compatibility list is because EG4 has not submitted the forms to do so. They further said, that is probably because there are so many EG4 / Sol-Ark combinations across the country, even in areas requiring a permit for installation, that EG4 just isn't concerned about it. I know my system is working great and my batteries and Sol-Ark communicate very well. There is no "Authority Having Jurisdiction" where I live, so I'm not concerned with that.

You would need a turbine and a generator with a Chargeverter. The turbine I am installing is small but should help keep my batteries full in winter and my EG4 Chargeverter has worked well when I test it once a month while exercising my Cummins gene. I also heat 100% with wood.

Nice. I think Solark 15k is the only emp-hardened solar inverter in the market.
@goingoffgridatgreenshireho435
@goingoffgridatgreenshireho435 3 ай бұрын
Unfortunately the reading I've done indicates the solar array may short out through the back feed in the wires connected to the inverter. I don't know and hope not to have to test the theory. It is difficult to prepare for every event without going bankrupt.
@boblatkey7160
@boblatkey7160 Ай бұрын
It's mainly a gimmick. There's just no way in hell that anything is going to survive a true EMP. Especially with those solar panels on the roof running down to his equipment.
@goingoffgridatgreenshireho435
@goingoffgridatgreenshireho435 Ай бұрын
boblatkey, my panels are ground mount but you are probably right! There's no way to really test it without a massive EMP. I will soon be hard wiring EMP protection into the 3 MPPT legs in my Sol-Ark coming from the solar array as a second line of defense...its all I can do to prepare, at least I feel confident I'll be safe from a lightning surge.

Sorry we had severe storms leaving me without internet last night and today. During the time we were grid tied we averaged 31KWh a day, but that included what we sent to the grid...so maxed out with no waste. Off grid we are averaging about 19KWh a day because we don't have the grid or any other "dump load" to send the extra power to. Since April 17, 2024, we have produced 2200KHw through the Sol-Ark, so I think the math on that is close to my figures. Hope this answers your question well.

Missouri Wind and Solar 1600w / 48V /Falcon 3 with pre-wired control panel and MidNite Classic 250 charge controller. About $3000 and DIY install...can't find an electrician to help. Mounted through the roof of my shop with a 2" schedule 40 galvanized pipe. I'll have a video when its done.

Is your house all electric and what size heatpump do you have. Also, are the 6 batteries all you need to get through the night.
@goingoffgridatgreenshireho435
@goingoffgridatgreenshireho435 4 ай бұрын
All electric except we cook with propane and heat with wood. Don't have a heatpump. The batteries are between 84 and 88% full in the morning when I get up.... If they were full at sunset. We had a lot of practice controlling our power usage over the last 5 years on solar. We are very dialed in on our power usage, but we don't go without during our daily routine, we are just careful about using large loads. We set the AC at 80 when its 90 degrees out.

@goingoffgridatgreenshireho435 thanks for the info. I'm trying to figure out batteryback up. Like you, I plan on having the grid as a backup, plus I have a 26kw generator if all grid and solar fail. But for the majority of the time, I would like to be off grid with no generator back up. We have a 1500 sq ft house. all electric. Major load at night would be a 3 ton heatpump, 18 seer. Which has a soft start built in.

You might look at the EG4 Chargeverter to charge your bank. You can run it with your generator. I have a 13kw Cummins. The Chargeverter works well, it is bolted to the busbar and I set it to charge at 54v /60A . It charges the entire bank at 9.7 - 9.8A into each battery. So in 2 hours I can raise the state of charge 20% with 2 gallons of propane. I won't use it often but when I need it, it works well. They run about $400 at Signature Solar.
