Wow, again with people flipping out about the thumbnail. I get it, you don’t agree with their method... but remember it’s their channel, and you can choose to NOT watch. They are documenting their journey, and invited us to come along, only asking that if you like the content to consider joining the Patreon group. Even I don’t agree with ALL their methods, but I enjoy their content and keep an open mind and remember it is THEIR channel. Anyone reading this, be blessed and keep on with a positive attitude!

These videos make me so envious. It's hard to go to work in my day job when I want to be building my own off-grid life. It's nice to see a couple who remind me of my wife and myself. You clearly are best friends as well as co-conspirators in building a cool home. Seeing your energy and zest for life inspired me to grab my spear, dust the cobwebs off my neurons, and make the plum flowers proud.

Nicole...please protect your feet. And take other safety precautions when needed like eye protection, etc. It’s no joke. It takes a split second to become distracted or for something to go wrong with the tool you are using or something around you happens and you could lose a toe...or even your foot. You guys are not anywhere near immediate medical attention. You could lose your entire dream of living the life you want to live in a heartbeat or it could become drastically altered simply for not following some simple basic safety precautions. Take it from someone who knows....I was helping to move a couch in bare feet about 30 years ago when I was your age....and let’s just say I regret daily to this day.

The Baghdad Battery or Parthian Battery is a set of three artifacts which were found together: a ceramic pot, a tube of copper, and a rod of iron. Corrosion of the metal and tests both indicate that an acidic agent such as wine or vinegar was present in the jar.[1] This led to speculation that the liquid was used as an acidic electrolyte solution to generate an electric current from the difference between the electrode potentials of the copper and iron electrodes.[

I'm sure at one point, Lithium will be a great investment for Off-Grid Power, though they do require certain temps. What you have work great! Believe I'd construct a box outside of the home, run solar panel wiring to the batteries. Great video, know you two are busy, busy, busy with all that you have to do, getting ready for upcoming Winter Season. Thoroughly enjoyed watching each and every build video this Summer. Great job you two!

@Carpe Diem There are power lines in their area, but if you watch at the very beginning of when they move to the Island, Jake explains the HUGE investment to connect to the Grid. Yes, there are Power Lines, simply because there used to be a Hydro-Dam on the Island. Unless things have changed, I don't believe they've connected to the Grid.

I've found that lead-acid batteries are so archaic, messy and inefficient (and dangerous)...I ditched my lead-acid 8-battery bank in April and went full LiFePO (Lithium-Iron-Phosphate) hooked-up to a 4 kw 18-panel system. It was $10K to make the batt. upgrade, but well worth it. Love what you guys are doing...I'll be setting up my 16-ft. yurt later this month in N. CA. Cheers to the off-grid lifestyle!

Guys, a solar water heater is quick and easy to build. A couple hours of direct sun and you have 120+ degree water for the shower. I built one out of 50' of coiled black plastic tubing in a 1" flat box I painted black on the inside and covered with glass and a 5 gal plastic bottle. Just mount the bottle above the coil and let convection circulate the water.

Hey, loving going on this adventure with you both (my part has been SO EASY! :). A useful thing some people don't know, that's great for garden planning, solar gain planning, and so on is this (no tools or knowledge needed): outside on a full moon night at midnight, the shadows you see are falling where the sun's shadows will be falling in six months. I've found this knowledge so handy all my life, hope it's useful for you too.

Jake and Nicole, If you want to pump water to anyplace on your property at elevation height of your gutters then all you have to do is replace the down spot with 4 inch untreated sewer pipe (non perforated). Then add a shut off valve at the base and just above the base install a 3/4 pipe to 3/4 garden hose fitting into the 4 inch untreated sewer pipe. Water seeks it's own level so the 4 inch untreated sewer pipe will send water to anywhere on your property to that level. My down spots are 25 ft high from ground so I can send water anywhere on my property up to 25 ft high no mater the distance! No machines just nature to do the work. If you need better description of this then just send me a message.

I dont know if you'll see this but I work for a solar company and I install systems for living and if I could give you advice I would recommend building a bettery bank with lithium they last longer they have a lower drain rate which means you can use power where as lead acid has more maintenance doesn't last as long and they have diy systems you make from recycled batteries ans build your own solar wall bank a little at a time and you'll only need a few panels I would recommend the LG 365 panels they use inline inverter and you can put them on a sun tracker system.

I really like your videos Jake and Nichole but I would use relevant thumbnails ;) I like how Jake uses the different belts in martial-arts. The white-belt of being off the-grid is having a Croft, an outhouse and a non-municipal water and toilet system. I would suggest that people try that first, it's a great learning experience. The black-belt of being off the grid would mean being totally off without any grid support. Like building a log-cabin/house with non-store bought materials, a non-municipal water or toilet system, a non-store bought electrical system (virtually impossible or you could skip electricity all together), hunt, fish and or grow all of your own food, non-store bought tools or vehicles and make all of your clothes, shoes and furniture. I guess it's back to the stone and iron-age? I think we should look at being off-grid as a means to cut our consumption and save our environment and money. We buy a bunch of crap and we throw it away, it's not sustainable. My future plan is to become an off-grid minimalist in moderation, that is if my wife can live without her toe and nail polish LOL.

You can use a rv12v pump they have a built in pressure switch so that it only runs when you turn on the facets. A switch next to the sink is standard in a RV. I use my RV from may to October traveling around and selling at events. Several events have no hook ups. I now have 3-100watt solar panels on the roofirst mounted flat with a slight raise about an inch all around for cooling air flow. When they get hot output drops a bit. Led acid is the least expensive type of battery. If you can find battery packs front a wrecked hybrid or even vehicle, they store more energy per pound. The Tesla battery is the best at around $1000. This is my next step up in power storage
