In this episode we're busy as ever with more trips to our backwoods cabin and putting a lot more fun in our lives. It's hunting season and since we subsist on venison, it's time to fill the freezer. Also, I'm taking a moment to answer some questions regarding how I process my venison and giving a tour of the interior of our off grid cabin

Howdy Boss! I am 70 years old and all of my hunting/camping/survival gear is less than $1,000.00 dollars and most of it over 30 years old. I was raised in a home where there was not a lot of money so we made things, bought them used and fixed things to as good as new or better. Recently an individual was looking at my gear and said, "this stuff is ancient". I laughed and told him, "when you buy good stuff (not expensive name brand) and take care of it, you only have to buy it once! He then proceeded, in conversation, began expressing his worries about meat prices and asked, "what are we going to do"? I chuckled and told him we will have to do what I did growing up. We hunted for almost all of our meat (fish, snapping turtles, squirrels, turkey, dove, ground hogs, possums, deer etc.) Ground hogs and possums?! he yelled. I said yeah, it's good eating. Well, he said, I think I would rather starve and I said, you probably will. Boss, we live in a narcissistic soy boy society where people are more concerned with how they look and how they will be seen by their digital so-called friends and who will notice their name brand crap. GOD help them Boss, they sure won't be able to!

Watching your cabin videos back in 2016 inspired me to quit the best paying job I ever had, sell my house and move from CT to NH. Your words hit me like a cement truck and helped me realize my dreams of living simply. I've been loving the new land I have, my home, my abilities to cut my own trees, harvest my own venison, grow my own veggies. The many changes that have come to my life since 2016 Boss, I owe to you. Would love to shake your hand one day. Thank you sir.

Boss, I have a friend I helped out in the mornings selling live bait . He owned a tackle shop. I was able to buy what ever I wanted at cost . The high end equipment was 100% mark up. I did buy some top of the line equipment, still using today 20yrs later . He told me the 39.95 combos could keep the doors open. And I believe him, the sales people always use you to the more expensive stuff, it’s not that there bad people. It the sign of the times. Being in business of any kind is no walk in the park , Amazon or Walmart are always one step behind. For us guys it’s about freedom and a day in the woods. I can’t believe the cost of a good pair of leather boots. Maybe 500.00.

I think for a lot of people the words: homesteading, off-grid is wishful thinking. But when the reality of all you have to do to be self-sufficient hits they sour quickly. My mother was raised on a farm. Any of their animals they raised they would have to process themselves. My granddad Russell hunted small game and fished. He may have hunted larger animals such as deer but I never discussed those things with him. I can remember many a Saturday morning my grandmother would be skinning a rabbit and preparing it for a meal.

Your thoughts about "homesteading" are spot on my friend. and it's the same with "wilderness". They're "alone in the wilderness" but there's a power pole with a transformer on it in the back ground and you can hear their neighbors riding lawnmower going round and round. Too funny :-D

People have become so disconnected from their food. If it doesn’t come wrapped on a styrofoam tray they won’t even consider it. Too bad for them because there is nothing more satisfying than to enjoy a nice venison steak you harvested yourself! Good eats!!

Great video boss! If the NY cabin is going to be your new home base, are you going to be making changes or additions to it?

Yes. The addition will happen before we call it home. We're still on the ,mountain.

You are so right about how out of touch people are and so easily offended by all kinds of stupid things. The problem is our media and educational system. They teach people to be that way.

We just made a HUGE batch of venison jerky here at our homestead. Freshly harvested. I eat it all the time out in the woods. Especially backpacking trips. I will live off homemade jerky for days. I know exactly where it came from. 😏

Meat you got yourself is always better. Hey, I noticed when you were skinning that deer there were some nicks in the meat. To prevent that, my uncle taught me to use a dull knife to cut the hide off the meat when skinning. He had a bundle of different knives for butchering. Thanks for all the great videos trough the years!

Congratulations on the 2 deer! My daughter and i are watching this video at my off grid hunting cabin in the southern tier of NY on the night before opening day of the regular season. Keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow I only got 1 deer this bow season ( 7 pt with a homemade longbow ) hoping between the two of us we can put some more meat in the freezer. Can't wait for your solar video I'm still in the process of expanding my system.

Hey, southern tier here too. Had a cabin in prattsburgh and land in Cohocton. In Bristol now. I was hunting with my son. That's what it's all about. Passing in tradition and memories. Where you from?

Bought a pair of sears diehard crepe soled work boots about 15 years ago on a whim- still have them - they’ve just about given up the ghost but they served me well for a long time. It’s great when you get something of great values like that - When you and Lori do a dump show and tell - those vids are always some of my favorites

Hello, nice buck! I had a funny experience a week ago. Cutting firewood on a solid overcast day I was splitting by hand and heard a lower than normal jet flying circles overhead. Too cloudy to see it I went about my day. Next day rain so I went through more of your catalog of videos and saw the tanker aircraft doing circles above you. Hmmm I said. I’ll be more attentive to the sky in the future. Thanks again.
