Great content as alwats Merry Christmas btw any thoughts on some of the issues I’ve been hearing lately at GXOR community about transmission issues I know some are isolated but still a bit worrysome as I’m eyeing on the 460 to add to my 470.

I don't off road near as much as I used to but I never liked the "wiggle" of the wrangler on the road. Also the creature comforts in my 22 GX trump the jeep.
@RB-pe1yu Жыл бұрын
For me the only "advantages" of the jeep is the ability to take the roof off and the aftermarket parts availability is 20 times what you can get on a GX. A properly equipped GX is a better overall off-roader in my Opinion. Jeep probably wins on Rock Crawling ability but as an over landing Rig it's no contest the GX wins all day and it looks better doing it and has better on road manners.
@SL-hp8ou Жыл бұрын
In terms of overlanding, it still depends on how much you want to kit it up. Some people have to have 35s and 3” of lift, well then, one can kiss goodbye the Toyota reliability, unless they beef up the axle shafts front and rear to some kind of chromoly, and find a way to fit an LC 200 series steeling rack, oh re-gearing is a must. All that is in addition to the crazy cost of lifting the IFS, trimming the wheel well, relocating the body mounts. In contrast, one can option the new JL with 35s on the Willy and Rubicon trim right out of the dealer lot. In the stock form, the Jeep’s Dana 44 is stronger then the Toyota 8” axle (with slightly larger ring gear and more axles shaft splines), and the recirculating ball with track bar steeling is also much stronger then the Toyota Rack and Pinion systems, so big tires, heavy bead lock wheels and wheel spacers will cost more wear and tears on the Toyotas then Jeeps. As a conclusion, keep the tire size under 33s on the GX. If you want bigger tires, get a Jeep JL, it is a lot cheaper and easier to build, and it will last longer.

Awesome comparison! I would really like to see a video of GX/LX vs the new Land Rover Defender 110/130

I wanted a Jeep Wrangler for a long time, until I drove one. It feels cheap as all get out. It's rickety inside and the roof squeaks like crazy. It gets pushed all over the highway by wind, the mirrors bounce around on the highway... the ride quality is crap. It felt like I was driving a plastic milk crate down the road. I was so turned off after driving the Wrangler, I felt like I was catfished. The GX is light years beyond the Wrangler.

Season's Greetings and solid content as usual sir! I owned a 2003 4Runner SR5 4WD (170,000 miles) and 2011 4Runner Trail Base (140,000 miles). I currently own a 2016 Jeep JKUHR (manual) and just crested 80,000 miles with no issues. I did succumb to the Jeep aftermarket (winch, AEV 2.5 lift, AMP power steps, etc.) and hope you are correct on the 250,000 Pentastar estimate. I really enjoy my Wrangler but will likely go back to Toyota (4Runner/Tacoma) for my next rig. Thanks for sharing and keep the wheel side down.

I'm sorry, you cannot beat a locker, no matter how good the traction control. Yes ATRAC is excellent but it still doesn't come close to a locker. I have been wheeling for 30 years, and with massive amount of experience with Yotas and Heeps.
@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD Жыл бұрын
Naw, not true... we've gone anywhere a locker can... so far nobody has been able to point me to a "locker only trail"... tell me where the "locker only trail" is and I'll do it with ATRAC.... which again is a brake locking differential 😉 Toyota deleted lockers on the Landcruiser 26 years ago... they place them in certain markets today purley for marketing purposes ✌️
@GrizzlyDude Жыл бұрын
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD It is very true. If you're only going on soft-roading trail, then yeah I can agree. I can actually show you many trails that require lockers, but you do need a heavily modified vehicle for those trails. The thing with lockers, all the power goes to each wheel without using the brakes to slow the free moving tire. That is the last thing you want when you are driving through deep sand, mud, or a loose gravel steep hill. You need wheel spin for those environments. When you are using ATRAC, or any type of traction control, they use the brakes to slow the wheel that slips. Any time you do that, you loose a tremendous amount of wheel momentum, and it robs torque from your engine when you are in rocks it deep ruts.

@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD Жыл бұрын
Not true. A-Trac is equal or better than lockers. Trac is a limited slip simulation. The GX has both Trac and ATRAC. ATRAC will go anywhere lockers can go ✌️

I'm a Jeep and Toyota guy and you Toyota guys try too hard. You will never keep up with a Jeep on difficult trails. GX460/70 are great off road and IMO better overlanders, but you can buy a POS jeep for $5k, throw some auto lockers in and a new GX couldn't keep up on hard trails. Like you said apples to oranges. Jeep for a toy, GX for a daily driver and overlander. The new jeeps are a lot nicer, but they are no where near Lexus quality. Got to drive a 2022 392 and even at $80k it ain't the same. Although, it is an incredible machine.
@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD Жыл бұрын
