Hey Ronny, for me this is the best build video I've watched, with the roof top camper design of particular interest given that I'm in the concept planning stage of my own future build. Questions; How do I get in touch with Marty?
@Dorko853 жыл бұрын
The best part was the whole thing mate, it was a build that many can relate and share in our own experiences. It wasn’t over the top but instead practical. If you want to do one with a off-road camper and Defender let me know!

I still dont understand his monstrosity, everyone knew it was shite and too heavy when he was building it, and what was the point of the dual cab to rip out the back seats? So much wastes room and extra length because of that. This patrol is a fantastic example of a rig for two people that is capable and comfortable and isn't the size of a cruise ship.

This has to be one of the best well laid out and practical setups I have seen. Can take almost the whole lot out for putting in his work gear for during the week, can move things around for what type or length of trip they are going to do. The absolute best thing they have done is had weight in the forefront of their thinking. Used plastic bins and click clack boxes for storage and the weight distribution by having heavy items forward of the rear axle. I don't think people realise the importance of keeping weight down and weight distribution when they are thinking about Touring builds. Less stress on the vehicle and far better economy if your not hauling around the unnecessary weight and accessories. Well Done!!

Amazing how much better packaging you can achieve with a single cab ute. I don't know why people continue to fuck around with dual cabs when they all have issues with weight distribution. Excellent canopy layout and attention to weight saving.
@kadmow3 жыл бұрын
Merge this rig with graham Cahill's GU with the Fridge "Pass through" ExtraCab- Though even with a single cab you run out of room - a lot of features end up as: "This OR That, Choose one." If you really want to Glamp - a Camper trailer / Compact Caravan allows for more kitchen Sinks, if that is what you want. (A Winnebago - or any "camper truck" - is even more of an offroad compromise, and you can't just unhook and recover the 4x4ability..)

As good and knowledgeable as Andrew is (I enjoy every episode), his latest rig was not well thought out. He wanted more interior room for film editing etc and he didn't get it - rather a major oversight to pick the wrong shell. And the electrical system seems to be a huge, and ridiculously expensive, overkill - but I guess that was his focus for this latest build. The result - a heavy and very pricey vehicle compared to this completely well thought through design.

Well-designed and made set-up indeed. No fancy stuff but all very practical. One can see that the guy has a lot of travel experience and talent to build it. The only limitation in my opinion is that it is mainly useful for nice and dry weather camping. Great for Australia and South Africa. I had my Troopy converted to a very simple and lightweight camper first and travels about 100'000 km in Australia, Northern Africa and Europe. But after a first trip to Scandinavia made me change mind big style, cold and rainy weather made the difference. Soon after this I had it converted to an all weather camper and later started on a 27 months trip from Alaska to Patagonia. There you appreciate a camper that allows staying inside, sheltered from cold, rain and wind. That's the story of my Troopy: www.underway.ch/wir-und-unser-auto/das-fahrzeug/

GVM is 3400KG. When the set-up is empty it weighs 2860KG. Last time we weighed it fully loaded on a big trip it was 3550KG. We are always reducing that number. Over 3500KG and a vehicle becomes heavy, no matter what GVM you have.
